IRL the Russians did not attack until Aug. 12th IIRC, so activating on Aug. 1 gives them time to reach jumping-off points by Aug. 12.

The base forces are already at sea and will probably commence amphibious unloading even before the devastated port is repaired. Additional combat troops are loading now at Hangchow and will be ferrying into to Kumamoto as shipping allows, given the priority of the Tsu invasion. As in the dry run a few days ago, the Imperials pushed out of Kumamoto retreated toward Kagoshima.

It looks as if the better Imperial units escaped to Kurume, where three of our divisions, most of the armor, and all of the artillery will head in pursuit and to cut off Nagasaki/Sasebo. The remaining LBA support will be tasked to hit defenders at Kurume, with sweepers assigned. Kurume recons with 22 units, 23,340 troops, 378 guns, 926 AFV. Given the shape our infantry is in, it might take them 3 days (even 4??) to get there, but most of the armor will make it in 1 day. So the plan is armor will attack on its own, with air support but no naval bombardments will be made available. Two old BB TF will bombard Nagasaki/Sasebo tonight to slow down the herd evacuating that doomed enclave.

The 5th USMC Division will head SE as fast as possible to cut the rail line out of Kagoshima. I don't know if they will do so in time to do any good, but if they do they will be well able to defend themselves in the Woods-Rough terrain. The one hex distance they must cover is 1/2 primary road and 1/2 trail. Armor would probably take too long on the trail portion, but I am also going to start the USA 194th Tank Bn moving, which is in the best shape of the armored units. The CVE torpedo bombers will assist by hitting the enemy units in Kagoshima. There are about 110,000 troops in Kagoshima and another 6,000 in Kanoya; maybe we can trap them!

Thanks. I was thinking about just letting them sit until activation, even more so now that BBFanboy has clued me in more about the historical dates.

The first Shanghai attack was pretty good. I think the battleship bombardments will make a big difference and get the ball rolling. I know there will be plenty of Chinese Army casualties, but committing a lot of other Allied units would reduce the coming pressure on the Home Islands. Manila should fall more swiftly seeing as how the defenders' AV is going down steadily (although slowly). Shanghai AV is oscillating, so I assume there is more supply remaining in the units (likely none at all in the units in Manila).
