How on earth do I get the VB units on my CV's to resize? I've withdrawn the VS sqn off Yorktown in this instance (she's repairing at PH) and clicked on the re-size text at the top left and entered a size of 36 in the VB sqn. I've tried this for 3 turns in a row but it never resizes?

Disband the TV containing the CV. Or if it's in port, form a TF, then disband. The max size should then be updated. You will then have to add planes/pilots.

Thanks guys. As Yorktown is repairing damage in PH Shipyards I can't form and disband. I'll try it on my other CV's when they arrive back in 3 days time. I'll keep you posted!

Pretty quiet few days. As mentioned most of my Marcus Island invasions ships will be back at PH within the week. As forces prepare for my next invasion (the biggest of the war so far) and ships upgrade I'll probably use my CV's for a bit of raiding.

I'll also start to prepare for SoPac invasions soon.

Submarine Warfare -

3 Dud/misses.

SS Seal started the month off with a bang blowing up SC CHa-27 off Donggala.

SS Salmon followed up on the same day by damaging the troop laden AK Syunko Maru with a torpedo off Onimato.

On the 4th SS Barb left the fuel laden TK Toa Maru badly burning with a torpedo hit off Ambon.

An enemy sub (SS I-171) was detected and hunted to death by an ASW force operating off Wake Island.

There's a bug which is to be fixed in Patch 6 (might be fixed in the Beta but I'm not running it). Check to see how many planes are currently on the carrier, including planes in reserve in the squadrons. I'm going to paraphrase what the game engine does here to explain the bug. The code looks at the capacity of the carrier. Then it adds up the number of planes on the carrier. Then, to see if there is room for the squadron to resize, it a) subtracts the number of planes in that squadron from the total and adds in the requested size of the squadron. It uses that figure to compare to the carrier capacity. The bug is that it neglects to subtract planes that are in reserve for that squadron (or maybe for all squadrons - don't know).

So if a squadron went wacky and auto-resized from 36 to 18, and would put the extra 18 planes in reserve. If you gave it orders to resize to 36, the code would be - in effect - double counting those 18 reserve planes and mistakenly concluding that the requested resize would exceed the capacity of the carrier.

To fix the problem, Michael had me put one squadron ashore so there were fewer planes on the carrier. Then the manual resize orders worked for the group still on the carrier. I am assuming that you know how to issue the manual resize orders. If you don't I'll walk you through that.

Hi all,

Other than Japanese bombing in China the only action to note was by submarines........All Marcus Island forces are now back in port or on land at Pearl Harbour. The next step is to decide where to prepare to invade next in CentPac. Recon indicates the main Mariana Islands and Bonin's all have between 15,000-40,000 Japanese soldiers. I was thinking of Pagan but it is a smaller Island so has limits IIRC. Maybe Saipan, Tinian or Guam then.......

Submarine Warfare -

SS Steelhead started the week off well by heavily damaging AKE Nagato Maru with a torpedo sout of Iwo Jima. SS Herring later detected the same ship and sank it with another torpedo.

SS Salmon heavily damaged AK Hokkai Maru with a torpedo off Sendai.

SS KIX performed well in sinking AK Daigen Maru with 2 torpedoes over 2 attacks near Langkawi.

SS Jack reportedly sank DD Asagumo with a torpedo west of Singapore.

SS Triton sank AK Meisho Maru with 2 torpedoes SW of Iwo Jima.

SS Perch got the prize of the week reportedly sinking the fuel laden beast TK San Ramon Maru with 3 torpedoes over 2 attacks south of Mindanao.

In return 2 of my subs have been damaged (both moderately) by surface and air attack.

Hi all,

Firstly, I know it must be boring/tough for readers only have my fleeting posts to analyse the game as Faber doesn't post/update his AAR anymore. I do hope that when things heat up I'll at least have more to post about more often even if Faber doesn't return!

The main action points over the past 13 days has been focussed on the detection and annihilation of a small Japanese convoy off Milne Bay and the steadfast US Submarines......

Planning -

There's also a lot of planning underway at the moment. I don't/won't attack either the Mariana's or Bonin's until I have more CV's (all equipped with Hellcats) and more assault ships to land more troops! I suspect I won't be ready to launch this invasion until August/September 1943 when I have a few Essex Class CV's as well.

There's a lot stirring in Australia as well...over 4000 AV worth of troops, ARM, ART and ENG have massed at Townsville (see screenshot) and are starting to prepare to invade enemy held bases all across Papua, Dutch New Guinea and upto and including Ambon. The ETA for these invasions is about 2-3 months away.

No offensives will be launchd into Burma until after the Monsoon ends in November 1943.

The nearest of the invasions to take place will be on Cocos Island. Troops are already in Perth for this (2nd British Division, 22nd (East African) Bde, 29th British Bde). This will kick-off within 2 months and will be escorted by CV's..........

This brings me nicely onto CentPac...........

With things being quiet here for the next few months my 4 active CV's (Lex, Sara, Big E, Hornet) have left PH and are near Marcus Island at the moment with the aim of raiding and intercepting enemy TF's inbetween Japan and the Mariana's. They'll then head south toward SoPac for use against Cocos Island.......1/2 of them have shiny new Hellcat's aboard.

SoPac -

As mentioned an enemy convoy was located by Catalina's off Milne Bay. A substantial ABDA CA/CL/DD force left Sydney to say hello. They arrived on 14th April and quickly surprised and sank 2 x SC and 2 x AK leaving a 3rd heavily burning (sunk 2 days later by Mitchells from Aus). They were carrying troops but I'm unsuire if they were moving in or out!

SS Harder got things off to a bang by capsizing AK Tarushima Maru with 2 torpedoes on thre 13th. DD Asagiri left Harder heavily damaged. Touch and go if she'll make Carnarvon.

On the 16th SS Gar located a convoy off Wakkanai and heavily damaged AK Banshu Maru.

SS Silversides sunk the troop laden AK Sinno Maru over 2 attacks off Hachijo-Jima on the 17th.

SS Whale blew up AKL Kensho Maru off Wakkanai on the 22nd.

SS Runner left AK Ohio Maru badly listing SE of Davao with a torpedo hit amidships.

SS Seal damaged AK Hokuroku Maru with a torpedo off Balikpapan.

LOL. You don't remember reading about the battles we had west of Attu Island (4 x CV sunk) and then 2 weeks later when Zui/Sho tried to go raiding north of Midway I jumped them with my CV's? Faber was unluky in that in the first battle few of his planes took off and found my CV's!
