Reinforcements

France

The French receive a nice mechanized corps. Unfortunately, it's not liable to get picked up any time soon given the Allied sealift shortage.

Reinforcements

United States

The US gets some Brazilian and Mexican units which I couldn't be bothered to display.

The Bennington and carrier planes, along with one or two of the air units, were deployed to the Pacific coast, while the remainder went to the Atlantic coast.

Reinforcements

Soviet Union

The USSR doesn't get much this turn. The mechanized corps is sent to the Far East, while the anti-tank gun is deployed in Europe, as are both planes.

Reinforcements

Germany

Germany gets a real shot in the arm, army-wise, courtesy of the many shattered units from last turn.

The Germans are counting on these forces to help them slow the Allied advances.

The air units are nice, especially those that will get sent to the Eastern Front. Allied air supremacy on the Western Front makes any air unit deployment a dicey proposition.

(Parenthetically, neither China nor Japan received any on-map reinforcements this turn, as I recall.)

Lending

A fair bit of inter-Allied lending:
- USA and Commonwealth between them lend the USSR 5 build points
- USSR lends Commonwealth 1 oil
- France, having no factories of its own, lends the Commonwealth 3 resources

Initiative

The Allies win initiative, courtesy of their die roll modifier.

What with it likely being a long, nice-weather turn, the Allies elect to go first.

Weather

The weather roll is an 8, meaning fine weather almost everywhere, save storm in the North Monsoon.

(This is a mild annoyance for the US, since the North Monsoon covers its major axis of advance against Japan.)

Allied Impulse 1

Declarations of War

The USSR has the option of breaking the pact against Japan this impulse, which it elects not to do, on account of having almost no forces in position.

There are no declarations of war this impulse.

Actions

China and the USSR call land actions.

USA, CW, and France call naval actions.

JA44 Allied #1

Port Attacks

The only port attack this impulse is a long-range raid by the Commonwealth against German convoys in Oslo.

The surprise rolls are 8 for Germany and 9 for the Commonwealth, so the Germans end up with 3 surprise points and the raid is a bust.

Naval Movement

US East Coast

The US sends its transports back from the UK to pick up its armoured fist sitting in the US.

Given how much hardware is sitting in the 0 box, US commanders are nervous, but this is tempered by the knowledge that the Germans have the Red Army to respond to and most of its submarine squadrons were obliterated during the Brittany landings.

JA44 Allied #1

Naval Movement

The Solomons

A US task force, comprised of its former reserve in Hawaii, plus slow battleships and amphibious craft, takes up station in the Solomons sea area.

Should the weather improve at all in the North Monsoon weather zone, this task force has the job of assaulting Truk.

Naval Movement

The Solomons

The composition of the task force in the Solomons sea area. Even this fairly light detachment is more than a match for what passes for Japan's main battle fleet.

JA44 Allied #1

Naval Movement

Bismarck Sea

A submarine squadron too slow to make it to the South China Sea takes up station here, along with a picket of light cruisers.

This task force is meant to keep the Japanese from using convoys to re-supply Truk, and to deny easy passage to the Japanese fleet should it attempt a sortie.

JA44 Allied #1

Naval Movement

Rabaul

The task force in reserve in Rabaul.

The naval units will respond to a sortie by the IJN, while the air units will either be used to contest/control the Bismarck Sea (if the weather improves) or deploy forward depending on progress this turn.

With the primary axis of advance a stormy mess, the USN and the Marines set their sights on sunnier objectives to the south, and an alternate route to gain airbases astride the South China Sea.
