Maybe the Italian Alcione should ground strike as well?

I am thinking that ground striking their HQs and the pesky ART might be a good idea. Although saving two air moves for rebases seems to have priority.

Attacking the lone 5 strength INF seems to be a good idea. 22:5 +1 without any air support. So 5:1 +1 with one supporting air if their bomber can be stopped from giving support. If the attack is a success then their rear area is under thread to be overrun including one disorganized fighter. This should force the French to react and retreat, maybe even counterattack. This could put the thin German line at risk but it seems a risk that might be worth taking.

If some of their ground strikes succeed it makes their reorganization tougher. Especially if Germany successfully attacks, and captures the hex with their 6-1 GARR. Then their Billotte stack is captured in ZOC.

Italy plan to take a combined to get more air moves and to activate their submarine force. But they will still advance behind the French lines forcing the French to react there as well or risking to lose the rear French areas. Hence making a conquest of France a real possibility.

Picture key.
Black circle: Suggested attacks.
Black X: Suggested ground strikes.
Green X: Suggested Italian ground strike.

I will have a look at this later - I have some errands to do this morning first. This thinking looks in line with what I had in mind (although didn't assume anything for the Italians).

Ormster what am I missing?

Why is the attack on Reims the French choice (its not a city in game)? I guess the + 4 is the two disorganised and armour 0.5 + 0.5 + 0.5 = 1.5 rounded up to 2?

But for the attack above the French have 2 notional. One for the para (I said yes) but why the second? The +3 is the Para notional, but the unit is not disorganised, the third modifier must be 0.5 + 0.25/2 = 0.125 = 0.625 rounded up?

Because the defending AT unit counts as one ARM and then it is equal number of ARM. The MECH doesn't contribute. The ARM division is needed here.

The notional is 1 in strength +1 for being French Home County. Hence the notional has 2 in strength.

+1 for notional
+1 for the paradrop
+0.5 for the ARM + 0.25/2 for the ARM div attacking across river. +0.5 is enough for +1.

Indeed. Although the +2 for armour will not count if France select Assault. So the end result would be +2.

I can't get the odds you could against the lone stack - did you forget the river or that one of the units is disorganised or am I missing something?

I likely will still attack at 3:1 but I'll see how everything else goes first.

Reluctantly I agree to your thoughts on the ground strikes.

Ground Strike:
StG4 - Ju-87D 3,2,5,1 (4) to (55,31) (if survives returns to 57,33)
KG2 - Ju-88A1 3,*,4,3 (5) to (53,30) (if survives returns to Saarbrucken)
Alcione to (54,31) (if survives returns to Saarbrucken)
No units land in Karlsruhe

I forgot that you had a disorganized garrison there. [:(]

Nice idea to add the paratrooper to the Southern attack. [&o] [:)] Then it looks fairly nice if the attack is a success.

Here is a picture on how it can look after the attacks. Only a retreat in the North and a blitz result in the South. I didn't get better than 5:1 against Strasbourg so I didn't attack there.

I had suggested that the Italian bomber ground strike the HQI (Georges) in the second line. But it can bomb the French ARM if you so prefer.

I will not commit to that attack unless I know the French air force has flown already.

Sorry about the confusion on the bombers. I have been toing and froing about whether to just go for the third bomber - to hit the armour and the HQ. I ended up not doing that and kept the armour hex. Yes I am more than happy to switch to the HQ instead.

Okay so to be clear - Stuka vs the hex to be attacked, and the other bombers (both 3-strength A2A) to hit the two stacks with HQ.

Mixed success with the ground strikes. We didn't reduce the French reorganization capability. But we did reduce his ability to create a new front if we make successful attacks. And, maybe most importantly, with three disorganized units in that hex it is indeed a tempting attack target.

A new feeling to actually roll decent on ground strikes. I doubt it lasts.
