Well the battle went less good on the next day the bombers got through and the AF is closed

OK I finally managed to get all my carrier sqns upgraded to Hellcats but they are taking forever to actually repair I cannot go in and try and fight it out with Sqns that are 10% repaired so I wait

I get 3 Sqns of Hellcats on the West Coast tomorrow which I will be able to downgrade to free up Hellcats for all remaining sqns

OK the three Hellcat Sqns arrived with Corsairs VF 33, 38 and 40 !!!!!

I would happily use VF 17 which arrives in a month with F4U's but I wont use the three extra Corsair Sqns until 1/44.

With Pauk still having KB intact allied to PDU i need to be carefull my Sqns are just not able to win a battle of attirtion.

I want to attack but I am constrained by the fact that heavy losses in carriers now would stop me cold.

I have 3 BB's and 1 BC on the West Coast and 2 CV's and 1 CVL all in refit so I am short of carriers

BTW guys a tip for anyone who plays as the allies - Autoconvoy is your friend use it !!!

I make extensive use of the automatic convoy system in all my games after early 43.

Its not worth it in 42 but for 43 I always use it on the Centpac front.

The AI isnt up to allowing it to operate from both sides so I tend to ignore Karachi otherwise you get British Autoconvoys transiting a hostlile Malacca straight !!! But the AI is fine for San Fran based convoys

You can expand the coverage in waves so wave 1 Aleutians, Canada, PI, Midway, Johtone, Palmyra, PI

And then expand it westwards as you go it really does relieve the admin burden a lot and makes sure that all bases have some supply and fuel which can be a lifesaver.

After Marshalls, Gilberts and Solomons are cleared it really comes into its own as a labour saving tool.

I would like to attack Akyab but I would rather wait for carrier support.

Well guys what to say not sure where to begin.

I screwed up I should not have been there in the 1st place

My Carriers reacted but only 2 TF's so my fleet was defeated in detail.

I Have lost 3 or 4 carriers at least.

I am incredibly pissed off my carriers reacted with all bombers on ground attack and then only 2 of the TF's WTF !!!

Anyway all credit to Pauk he defeated the combined allied fleet in late 43 this is a disaster which pretty much kills allied attacks for 6 months and commits me to a very risky course of action to win.

OK well I screwed up and its a black day for the RN

I went into the battle with 8 Carriers and 4 CVL's

Sunk Intrepid, Indomitable, Princeton and Hermes

Langly and Formidable probably wont make it

Bunker Hill will need some yard time but she will be ok if she can get away.

So 'only' one 1 USN Carrier lost but over 250 Hellcats down so 7 weeks production and all my pilot reserves gone I had 300 USN Pilots they will be required to top up my airgroups.

Overall not a good day for the allies

OK Guys its going to take a few days to absorb the implications of this one in full.

I should get Bunker Hill out she can make 21 knots and Makin is packed with Corsairs and SBD's (approx 140 operational Marine Corsairs)

Lexington is nearing the end of her refit on the West Coast and when she joins I will still have 6 operational USN CV's

I expect to be able to withdraw my TF's in one piece from Mili as well as they can retrat to Makin.

Overall I can pull out

But next steps and where to attack are going to be the focus for the next few months its Sept 43 and I get 4 F4U Sqns that are carrier trained soon.

I am stalemated in Burma now I am stalemated in the Marshalls

That leaves SWPAC I guess I am back there

OK I have now done my next turn and am awaiting the next response from Pauk. I got beat and beat bad but I aint out of the fight. Yoktown is at Pearl coming out of refit, Lexington is on the West Coast and in 60 days I get another Essex Class and 2 Independence CVL's
 
My pilot pools look to be in decent shape with lots of pilots surviving or diverting to other carriers so if I get em out I will be ok.
 
The main issue is that my shredded air groups will not recover for months because I just don't have the Hellcats I have basically lost every Hellcat produced so far and I cannot replace them. BUT VF17 arrives in 8 days with F4U's and that will ease the situation slightly.
 
It all comes down to Pauk now I need to concentrate on guarding my LOC and getting ready for a 44 offensive by forward dumping enormous quantities of supply - I will never be able to pause in 44 to re supply so I must ensure that I have a minimum of 4 million supply and fuel in SWPAC and CENTPAC this will take 3 months plus to achieve but I am working on it from now !!!!

Makin is covered by lots of Corsairs and B24D's if Pauk comes within 5 hexes my 80xp heavies escorted by Corsairs will cause problems as will the 2 64 plan Mitchell Groups on Tarawa set to range 7 - basically all my remaining carriers bar one Independence and Formidable should get out ok I suspect Formidable is done for.
 
The allied focus must now turn to SWPAC no other choice unless I shift some CV's to India to allow an invasion of Sumatra/Malaya
I have 4 CV Trained Gps with Corsairs only 1 of which

The more I think on it I need to position myself in SWPAC for an attack beyond New Britain so a new plan for the allies

Then land near rabaul

Basically a repeat of the precursors to Hydra from the PZB game it is predictable which is a problem and the Jap Carriers are intact which is another problem
