I mean, apart from the low level escorts?

In a previous post, John alluded to a number of large caliber naval guns paying a visit on Genzan. My guess is that this was a naval bombardment mission that ran into unexpectedly stiff allied SCTF resistance. The effects of running a bombardment TF into unexpected surface resistance are well known and almost universally deleterious. That's my guess.

There is not much detail due to life being CRAZY right now. We have--seemingly--2-3 things a day going right now in addition to work. Once I get thru inventory tomorrow night then I shall have time to do some serious writing and updating.

Figured I had to get something out there since Dan would report on the BB's getting crushed as well as the CV Skirmish...

Lots of action lately. Pretty entertaining game with a lot still to fight for in 45. Well done.

John seldom gives much details on setbacks.[;)] I kind of always assume the worse, and that several torpedoes struck home in the surface fight against Japan.

Otoh, I take perverse joy in describing how I have been humiliated.[:D] All too frequent of late.[:-]

Your dreaming there...too many bases (and probably CVEs) from which the Allies can fly in more fighters. At least I think that is the case. Allies never run out of those models.

John--You hit the nail on the head. I get super frustrated because I have 45 minutes to run the turn and--at max--about 45 minutes to do orders before life seriously intrudes. Dan--I love the man to death--takes 4-5 hours on his turns. If I had been able to buy my Subway Franchises then I might have the same delightful situation. That didn't work out and so I have to 'get my turns done' and out ASAP. This is not a rant. It is total and complete jealousy of Dan's situation vs mine.

Trying add an AAR on top of the earlier paragraph simply adds to the chaos...

Had an email going back-and-forth with Dan. He said that he slowly moved south and wasn't spotted so he 'edged' closer thinking I would move towards Singapore. Guess this was sort of a planned engagement by at least one of us. I gave him a 'WELL DONE!'

Well, sometimes he writes about the game.....other times the entire groups drifts off to other things. I distinctly remember doing a few weeks and a dozen pages on horticulture recently. Talked all kinds of things about different types of oak trees. You think I am kidding? I am not. I'm caught up. Eventually you have to read this AAR. I'd suggest finding someone to transcribe it into book form or maybe record to "books on tape"

Thanks for the laugh John.

I'll never read it. Remember that I started to when we ended this game the first time and I got so angry reading the personal attacks and rude commentary that I simply decided to leave it alone.

Gonna run this morning's turn. Have tomorrow off and a very calm week planned going into the thru New Years. People don't buy a lot of subs during this time and it serves as an excellent chance to chill out a bit. Both stores will function on minimal staffing so I plan to sleep a bit, do some turns, post on the AAR, and begin work on the next Mod.

PS--Just saw Lecivius's comment and that is true too. My near 14-year old and 11-year old do require JUST A BIT of attention!

The Japanese continue to have an excellent series of days in the air:

Obvert has just achieved two successfull carrier air strikes against CR's Main Carrier Fleet, in mid 1944, scen. 1., without loosing not even a single carrier of his, (nor with any hit at all sustained), and with no kamikaze attack.. Wow!!!

Worth to be studied (if you haven't done it yet).

The main point seems to be that Obvert released his carrier attacks while under heavy LB CAP. CR, scared as he is from Japanese fighters as you well know, must have kept Nav attack range low and short, as he's usually doing against you, and got badly mauled because of this, without anything in return...

Other noticeable point, is that CR had 600 fighters on CAP on first attack, but still Japan's strike got in.

He attacked with 138 strike aircrafts only, Graces, late Judies and some Jills, with a 121 fighter escort screen, NO Sams, 11000 feet altitude, SEVERE STORMS! (and got two hits with either 500 or 800 kg bombs from 10000 feet, that's VERY interesting. Is this realistically plausible?)


With his second strike, some days later after having replenished aircraft and ammo, at different location but still under good LB CAP presumibly, he went in with 400 strike aircrafts + 320 fighter escorts, 11000 feet, HEAVY RAINS, against, here this well, 980 fighters cap (not that far from what you have to face, isn't it?), he lost ONLY 130 attacker and got in with the rest achieving multiple hits on enemy's CVs. This time his bomber went in for a dive and not from high altitude, who knows why.

Strange also the discrepancy between the number or airplanes in the attack and in defence in the two strikes.
Maybe because first strike was at 320 miles (8 hexes) distance + severe storms, while the second at only 120 miles (3 hexes).


The other noticeable event in their war is current Burma land warfare. CR came in at Prome, plain land but with 6 fortifications level, with a big and fatty army. Obvert already had a big army in place, but reinforced it IMMEDIATELY with his ready reserves, + big artillery concentration, and an extremely dense AA array. Many of his land units are crack and top notch.

Result is, that meanwhile CR is just suffering land casualties sensibly higher than Obvert's, due ceirtanly to the high fortification extent, and to the great artillery advantage.

And, above all, CR's air striking force isn't achieving anything worth of notes apart from heavy own losses from the AA.

His AA array is impressive: 9 Rgmts or Btns + 2 or 3 Coys.

He has a one to ten artillery advantage for number of barrels, but this does not include his heavy or very heavy pieces.

I'd like to ask him how does he think to keep his army resupplied there.

No fighter cap worth mentioning present there...

Korea

Japan's maligned Imperial Army is on the attack at four different points presently. This day sees a massed assault NE of Taiyku. The 12-1 result is excellent with the armor advancing to cut the road below Keijo.

At Keijo, nearly 2,500 AV prepare to assault the American troops located on the south side of the city. Fifteen units of Artillery prepare to fire a massive barrage while 150 Fighters fly in to provide CAP over the lines. At several points along the Japanese Home Islands Japan's bombers (Betty, Frances, Peggy, Helen) move into bases that are within George and Frank Escort Range. Tomorrow will see nearly 1,500 aircraft attack the American lines at Keijo.

This date finds the Imperial Japanese Army on the attack throughout China and Korea. Results look very positive and are going to get better tomorrow.

This Japanese player decides to goad his Allied Opponent with an email attached to the turn:

You wanted the land war in Asia. It has taken me FOREVER to spread you out enough to give my Imperial Army a chance. Well…buddy…lets go! Here is the war in China and Korea. It is simple. Beat the Imperial Army here and you win the war.

Your Fleet is a long-assed ways away and I THINK I can beat you in the air…perhaps…more like give you a bloody nose.

Course everything is still humming along in the Home Islands economy…

We’ve got fightin’ attitude right now.

The day proceeds swimmingly for Japan. WE have multiple attacks that score victories forcing Allied troops back and out of hexes. Keijo gets a 3-1 win and Nanyang is retaken from the Chinese Hordes.
