The losses sound plausible to me. After all, the Japanese no longer have any safe bases. The walls really are closing in.

Every turn it gets more difficult to find units ready to attack, between disruption, fatigue, and disabled squads. Let's hope this latest collapse of a portion of their lines foretells the last few days.

Home Islands west.
Our troops have all made Konoya and attack tomorrow. At least two more days before the next attack is ordered at Oita. The crossing into Shimonoseki will come after the Oita pocket is cleared.

Home Islands east.
There were lots of night air attacks on our fleet but no damage suffered. Then there were lots of night attacks by surface combatants of various sizes, no serious damage suffered. During the day there were many air strikes against out fleet but none made hits on ships. Shore fire from Tsu seemed not a factor, but it looks like 7 ships hit mines. The troops are mostly ashore and will finish tonight with many more supplies unloading by tomorrow when they deliver their first attack. One division shows 40% disruption but will attack anyway on theory that 1) disruption will reduce significantly by the attack, and 2) full effort is required to capture the base before massive reinforcements are able to arrive and organize. To that end tonight one of the 3 fast battleship task forces will bombard along with an old BB TF. The twoo TF that bombarded last night will need another day just to reacch Daito Shoto to rearm so the naval bombardments must be paced. Support ships and fuel are being sent to Kochi but will take a few days to arrive.

Our own air stryikes again did the job, but this time the B-24 groups suffered as CAP over Kobe was tough. Sweeps sis mostly arrive first and clearly made a difference but CAP was still strong. Both Kobe and Osaka/Kyoto air compleses appear to closed to offensive operations, and Tokyo still appears the same. The B-25 groups must rest but the B-29 groups will hit Gifu (f: 258, b:63, a:36) tomorrow. Nagoya still launched offensive strikes today but was damaged by the naval bombardment last night.

Imperial units are seen moving eastward from Okayama (one of the crossings from Skukoku) and Shimonoseki (the crossing from Kyushu), and eastward from Osaka/Kyoto (into Gifu, not Tsu). Allied forces at Takamatsu (on Shikoku) will now cross to the NW into Fukuyama (just west of Okayama). On our side, the first two transport convoys of support units have loaded and departed Taihoku so they can be on scene at Tsu with minimal delay.

Home Islands east.
Many, many night air strikes on our fleet but again no damage. The strikes came from airfields all over the place, as did the day strikes that came later. Night surface attacks too, and this time two CV each took a shell hit. See the combat report in a later post. Our own strikes on airfields and naval bombardments went well, as did air strikes on ground troops at Tsu. Those were costly to the low flying aircraft, again.

I certainly wanted this result, but I did not think it would actually happen.

Look at how many reinforcements came in! I did not see them moving, and since there was no ops mode penalty they did not arrive by rail. Our troops are well and truly knackered so will rest for at least two days before moving out. The base forces at sea have been ordered to head stright in, even before they reached their holding point. Repairing the port will keep the organic engineers busy until then.

Air losses. Clearly the Empire's death gliders have been worn down and are re-equipping.
