Bombardment at Banjarmasin takes out the A/F......only 12 Dutch A/C left on this field...and all are damaged

Daily attack at Johnston shows 20+ Zeros.....no Zeros shot down...no Fortresses lost...but many damaged on both sides....if he does not come for PH, Johnston will become a point of attrition....

The Dutch Air Force tried to attack MiniKB and failed, because there were around 50 Zeros around....two T.IVa dropped torpedos, but they missed....[:(] would have been nice if they were able to hit the Taiyo...

Sally => AK De Klerk, Bomb hits 2, on fire, heavy damage ( Pamakasan, scuttled )

Japanese forces move into the empty city of Rangoon.....all forces moved out...and prepare defences along the rivers....

and now the picture...the most lucky ship from the PI.....sailed along Japan only 3 hexes away from Tokyo [X(][X(][X(]

A fresh convoy arrived at Noumea....and Japanese subs are waiting:
SS I-172 => MSW Mildura, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
SS RO-33 => AK Kailua, Torpedo hits 1, on fire ( 22 caualities reported, Guns lost 1 )
A B-17 was able to hit a sub with a bomb.....

Bombardment of Mersing,

Annoying subs are found between Hawaii and the US.....no losses, but my ASW sucks !!!
Due to this attacks Chris now knows that there is also the CV Yorktown active....

My daily attacks on Johnston Island destroyed some Betty bombers as well as Zeros....but I also lost a few B-17....

Enemy landing at Pomala

Bandoeng and Pomala were lost in this two turns.....

A Japanese surface TF surprises supply ships at Timor:
AK Poelau Bras, Shell hits 24, Torpedo hits 1, and is sunk
AK Loa Koeloe, Shell hits 7, Torpedo hits 2, and is sunk

The usual daily stuff at Johnston.....

Lots of Oscars make a sweeping mission on A/F Wuchow......the I16+c and I153c are not up against the Oscar....13 China A/C lost.....

Banjarmasin was lost today.....Chris forgot to circle the city....all my troops moved out of the city hex and will start guerilla warfare [8|]

Heavy daily ( it seems ) bombardment of Mersing.....

My last two undamaged Dutch subs are patrolling enemy shipping lanes and one of them finds some ships:
SS O24 => AP Siraha Maru, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage ( at Kendari )

The combat at Sian is annoying....Chris tries to circle the city.....I move troops to prevent this....I hate ground warfare in Witp......

enemy MSWs continuing to sweep the last few minefields at Rangoon.

enemy landings at Pago Pago....no real counter fire by my artillery there [:(]

Once again a big air raid on Wuchow - with more civilian casualities.

The daily Johnston raid will be stopped soon.....I have too many damaged Fortresses right now.

PagoPago was lost today - the small base force was no match for the enemy forces ( half of a division )

Enemy landings at Makale and Hollandia.

Japanese bombers find a supply convoy at Akyab - and they sink most of it, one ship was scuttled. At least they were able to unload 12k of supplies.

A sub found the Lexington TF near Noumea.
I will try to intercept some shipping around Luganville - three convoys sighted
Lots of transports with afew escorts ( as if I would believe my recons....[8|][8|][8|] see next turn.....

02/03/42 - first carrier battle

Post by wernerpruckner »

In the morning SS Pompano intercepts a transport at Truk:
AK Kyusyu Maru, Shell hits 7, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage ( 91 casualties reported )

Now to the Main Event:
my recce was wrong........no transports at Luganville......the damn KB is there....bloody hell !!!!![X(][X(][X(]

My forces try to attack first, but the Zeros are far too superior for my escorts.....most attacking A/C are shot down!!

First attack wave:
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 94

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 4
SBD Dauntless x 34
TBD Devastator x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 4 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 23 destroyed
TBD Devastator: 7 destroyed, 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
CV Zuikaku
CV Shokaku
CV Hiryu
BB Kirishima, Bomb hits 2
CV Soryu, Bomb hits 1
CV Akagi

All bomb hits are 1000pounders....so they should do some damage....but no ship is on fire [:(]

and than there comes the second wave:
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 94

Allied aircraft
F2A Buffalo x 5
SBD Dauntless x 34
TBD Devastator x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F2A Buffalo: 5 destroyed
SBD Dauntless: 15 destroyed, 4 damaged
TBD Devastator: 7 destroyed, 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
CV Kaga, Bomb hits 1, on fire
BB Kirishima
CV Shokaku
CV Zuikaku

only 500pounders this time, but the Kaga shows to be on fire right now!!

And finally the KB is able to bring some A/C into the air - a deadly strike:

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 26
D3A Val x 83
B5N Kate x 130

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 14

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged
D3A Val: 1 destroyed, 7 damaged
B5N Kate: 1 destroyed, 10 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
F4F-3 Wildcat: 2 destroyed, 8 damaged

Allied Ships
CV Enterprise, Bomb hits 12, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
CA Chester, Bomb hits 2, Torpedo hits 5, on fire, heavy damage
CA Northampton
CA Salt Lake City, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage
DD Fanning
DD Maury, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

and also bombers based at Guadalcanal come to join the battle:
Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 6
G3M Nell x 13

Allied aircraft
F4F-3 Wildcat x 9

Japanese aircraft losses
G3M Nell: 4 damaged

Allied Ships
DD Benham, Torpedo hits 1, heavy damage

At the end of the turn Makale was lost to enemy forces.

This turn was not good for my forces....one CV and two CAs lost
Only one CV left in the South Pacific.....I will try to save her!!

On the positive side:
2 Japanese CVs and 1 Japanese BB may be damaged right now. I hope that the 1000pounders did some damage to them.
If Chris has to move the two CVs back to a repair facility. it would weaken the KB !!
All I can do for the next few turns is hope and pray.

Trying to move the Lexie out of harms way.....but the enemy bombers find her TF:
CA Astoria, Bomb hits 1
CV Lexington, Bomb hits 1, on fire

Lexie is on fire and the damage is 22/2/25.....
I will move her farther West and then southwards

More enemy Nells attack shipping around Noumea:
DD Maury, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage ( sinks )
AK Harry Luckenbach, Bomb hits 3, on fire

Still several subs on my shipping lanes to PH, but my ASW TF does not attack [:(]

At least 4 enemy full divisons sighted on their way to Burma. Chris is also starting sweeps on my frontline airbases - several Hurricanes lost.
I think I will move the Burma based air units to India......and the troops will slowly retreat.

Other news:
4 Dutch base forces are now also in India and will start to fortify some bases.

Hollandia was lost this turn.

heavy air raid on Clark Field - lots of enemy A/C damaged due to AA fire.

Nell bombers attack DD Benham near Lifou:
DD Benham, Bomb hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

Enemy forces crossing the first river towards Akyab - some casualities on both sides. The attack was made by 3 Japanese divisions, so my brigade was no match and retreated behind the next river.

once again my B-17s try to attack shipping around Luganville - this time I have even a few subs nearby....but still no luck.

Enemy landing at Nandi........ohhh no, I wanted to move the Lexie here and next to NZ....she is still 15 hexes northnortwest of Nandi.....I will create a bombardment TF with two CAs and two DDs to visit Nandi.....with luck we will find some escorts there.

More enemy landings at Admiralty Islands, Nauru and Sarmi

The roads to Sian are now closed by enemy troops.

More troops land at Nandi ( two brigades it seems ).....seem to be same strength as my NZ unit here.
Next turn the bombardment TF will visit this place...we will see....

More of the useless B-17 raids against shipping around Luganville

More useless dot bases lost.....nothing to worry about....

PH and all of Hawaii bases have now 4500 mines each.
The next few convoys will go northwards to increase our strength in Alaska.

several 10 ship convoys with fuel and supply are on their way to Australia.....the first one will arrive soon.

There were no enemy ships at Nandi, so we only shelled the enemy troops.

One of the British ASW TFs was surprised by the I-155, and the PG Hollyhock was sunk with two torpedos.

Huge air raid on Manila ( 250 A/C [X(] ) - heavy losses on the ground.

The invasion TF that unloaded its troops at Nandi was found and attacked by Hudson bombers:
AP Nanrei Maru, Bomb hits 1
AP Hasuna Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire

This time also my B-17 from Noumea hit something:
AK Kinrei Maru, Bomb hits 1, on fire ( near Luganville )

Taung Gyi and Pagan were lost today.

not much to report, just the usual Japanese air raids in China and the PI.
A few American raids against Johnston Island, but they are becoming fewer....I need some reserve B-17s....

Japanese forces are invading a lot of empty bases.....only defended place they soon will land ( last turn saw a heavy bombardment ) Koepang on Timor.

only few Japanese ships have been attacked in those turns:
SS Pollack => AP Kuraido Maru, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
B-17C => AP Somedono Maru, Bomb hits 1 ( near Dili )
mines at Georgetown => AP Kiyama Maru, Mine hits 1, on fire

Several subs were damaged - at the moment only 8 frontline subs.....4 subs on the way to their station...all others are either in the yards or on their way back to a base for more fuel or torpedos.
