Admiral Yamaguchi was walking the bridge of his flagship Akagi - damn, so many good pilots lost but we have managed to inflict heavy loses to the British forces and they should not bother our troops at Andaman or in this part of the Indian Ocean any longer...
- Admiral - came a voice from the 1st officer - a message from Admiral Yamamoto!
- Read it please.
- 'From the Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. Good work Yamaguchi. Your actions have broken the Brits in this region and allowed our troops to strenghten a bast on Andaman. Yet, another mission awaits you. Turn your ships and head to Columbo at top speed immediately. We decided to exploit your success, and therefore your ships will give air cover for the landing force of Admiral Tanaka. Our battleships are also heading to Columbo for night bombardment. Good Luck' - Admiral, but our planes! We have lost most of our fighters and we will be defenceless. We should come to port, replenish our ships and then head to Columbo.
- No, an order is an order. Calculate the fastest route and set our Task Force on a new course.
- But Admiral, its a suicide. Brits must have airfields full of planes - hundreds of them!
- Do it. Tanaka needs our support. Without us his landing fleet will be defenceless.
- Yes Admial.
When his 1st left, Yamagichi was clenching his fists. So many good pilots lost, and only Shoho, his smallest carrier has full load of planes with the most experienced crews. - Let's hope it will be enough....
Several hours later somewhere near Columbo..........
- Admiral! Enemy planes are approaching!
- Sound the alarm and send our fighters immediately!
After two hours all the attacks were repelled, but at the loss of many fighters. Only a handful were left.
- Admiral, we hav a message from Admiral Tanaka. He reports three of his ships sunk by planes, but he is proceeding with orders. He is asking for ou support.
- Send our bombers immediately to destroy enemy planes on ground. This is the only chance. We must destroy them on ground or die trying. Either way we will turn the enemy's attention to us and save the landing fleet.
- Yes Armiral!
Another 3 hours passed. Out of 20 fighters none returned and over 100 bombers were lost. Enemy fighters intercepted the wave and destroyed them in the air before Columbo.
- Admiral, it is late and our bombardment force should arrive at Columbo any moment.
- Yes, we lost over 90% of our planes. We turn back immediately. Set course for Singapore.
- Yes Admiral!.......... Admiral, enemy planes approaching!
- Sound the alarm. Send any fighter we have. Do it!!!
Half an hour later.
- Admiral. Several planed breaked through and Shoho got hit by two bombs. One was critical and she is taking water very fast!
- Brave ship and brave men served on her. Send destroyers to pick up survivors. We must leave this region as fast as possible. Let's just hope the night will save us. And let's pray that our brave pilots did not die for nothing....
- Other ships?
- Just minor damage. We will repair them at port.
- Praise God. We got lucky.
Three hours later at a radio room.
- Admiral! We have just received a message that our battleships have bombarded Columbo.
- Good! It seems they managed to sail undisturbed to the destination. And what about Tanaka?
- No reports Admiral....
Two hours later.
- Admiral! A report just came. Admiral Tanaka managed to arrive at Columbo and disembark troops. He reports that total surprise was achieved!
- Very good, very good!
Early hours of the morning.
- Excuse me Admiral. We have just received another message from Admiral Tanaka.
- Yes?
- He reports that ou troops have taken Columbo! The plan of Admiral Yamamoto worked perfectly!
- It seems so. Very well, we will have time now to mourn our pilots and crew of Shoho. Continue to Singapore. We must make repairements and replenish our planes....... and pilots....It will take months before we train them and there is so much to do in this region. So much and so little time. But we still may have the chance. Cheer up Sano! The fate was favourable to us and we will keep fighting for the Emperor!

Hey, what did my carriers do at Port Moresbay? It wasn´t planned action.
According to later investiagation, Reisens from Kido Butai attacked Cairns (without orders, I suppose) and this brought Halsey to madness. He followed them to Port Moresby and attacked KB. It was so foolish! SBD hit one CV (Zuikaku?), but there were about 200 LBA. They hunted him back to Townswille and in the last attack G4M finished Formidable. Halsey can be happy he didn´t lose all carriers again.
Needless to sey after this incident adm. King put out of temper frighteningly. That means the end of Halsey´s career.
A little note; Japanese overestimated their claims considerably, I lost two, not 18 ships.

One of the last planned Japanese naval actions against Fiji resulted in naval battle where a force led by Adm. Nishimura has sunk 2BB's and 2CL's
