Another test run

Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.

This is the first time I have looked in on this game and it looks very interesting. I will be back for more and consider adding it to my collection. One point I would like to add with regard to the legibility of the text is please drop the serif font for a sans-serif one. It would improve the legibility a thousand fold for those of us with aging eyes.

I have to respond to this one - we had a san-serif font for a few weeks, and it looked bloody awful. The original font was Times New Roman, we have changed to Garamond (or Georgia?!) as the style is as close to a 1940's text as we could get, without going mono-spaced (which would never fit half the details)...

I can see there are some issues with my spacing in Ron's screenshots - opening up the line-spacing will make it more readable.

I didn't want to go into details on everything that has been going on with the Font, as what I ever I would say, would come out wrong to somebody, thanks for explaining

I much missed on many projects this "Dev diary" on the building of a game. Thanks Hard Sarge it's very educational, a good marketing tool and i know how long it takes to post and link all these images. Carry on, since i am a fan of GG i can only hope this product will fulfill my expectations [8D]

Well it depends a lot on which sans-serif font one chooses. However, since you seem to have developed a bad taste ion your mouth with regard to sans-serif fonts and seem to be striving for some period authenticity (which is always good for imersion in my book) I agree whole heartedly that increasing line spacing would go a long way toward inproving legibility. Especially since your chosen font seems to move characters up and down relative to the base line, with some characters shifted up and some shifted down.

I hear ya Sarge. I recently became a beta tester for Panther Games' Battle from the Bulge and have walked on eggshells trying not to divulge things on the forums that I shouldn't.

alot of people either do not understand or they dislike the Stream Intruder mission set up

overall, it is seen as a type of escourt mission, with a normal intruder mission, you plot a space on the map and assign one NF to fly to that spot, and then it will fly in circles around that spot

(a true NF will also try and shoot down landing enemy planes, and Elint or Jammers will try and find info/block out radar)

but with the stream, up to 6 planes will fly along the path picked, one rigth after the other, now these can try and engage a passing enemy NF, or pick on a landing NF, if it happens to be in the right place at the right time, but that is HARD to get just right

but with the stream, if your first guy is too early, maybe the 2nd or 3rd guy is not

plus, you can pick the path you want them to fly

this is what I like to do with it, every once in a while, just to keep the enemy honest

now, I don't know which bases the enemy is using, but the stream, I can overfly a lot of bases, and off to the side, you can there are some enemy NFs coming home, I may get lucky

well, made the number one rule you shouldn't make when testing, spotted something and started poking around before I saved the turn and crashed the gamed

figured out what it was and turned it to be corrected

so had to rerun the turn

bombing is a bit better this time around :)

I never used to have much success with the bomber stream escort type intruders. I always seem to get far more success with lone fighters patrolling over the NJG airfields, especially the ones around the area east of the Ruhr (IIRC) for some reason. Maybe the fact that one patrol area can cover 2-3 AFs at a time?

EDIT: Good to see BC doing some damage as well [:D]

Roger

and in the long run, it is always better to hit a target you know, the AI or player will pull and shift there units around, you get a day or two of bad weather, and everything you thought you knew is no long true

which I would also say, if used, it should be used with the single Inturder also

also, toss in a couple of Elint planes with a massive stream can confuse the defences

got a patch of bad weather, so BC has been shut down, then get some decent over Enland, but poor over Germany

so, to keep the LW honest, I am just sending out some short range hassle raids

going to try and drop some bombs on Tweety and another field, send some single Intruders to see if they come up, plus 2 Elint decoy raids with streaming escorts

35 Allied for 11 LW, but the bombing was good

my timing was off, I was pretty much early this time around

most of the LW losses were from crashes trying to land

LW has about a 1% loss rate, the Allies got about a 1.5%
