Here's 291ID that just routed enemy near Memel

That are a lot of squads but i see there is no MG's. In my work for WITM40 ID's that went to invade Yugoslavia i have put 324 inf squads,27 cav squads plus 56 HMG's. As far as i know GRw120mm Mortars only went operational in 43 but maybe he is trying to model Infantry Guns. pak and 81 mortars more or less fit my numbers.

Well, I think MG units are inherent in the infantry squad mods. Look what is 291ID going to upgrade from

and to

Image

Looks like MG42s to me ;)

Running out of replacements after ONE day?

Also, I've been withdrawing some air groups to capitalize on large pre-war reserves of some airplanes.

On one hand, I got this coming:

On another, I now have this:

P.S. I have so many recon units that I am starting to merge them just to clean up my screen. Of course, I should have probably been disbanding them instead of withdrawing...

Ukrainian Theatre, 6/25/41

Post by Rysyonok »

It seems that I don't have that many option in West Ukraine. While I have a strong assault heading to Lvov, there is not enough forces south of it to encircle the enemy. Yes, there is Hungarian armored corps... barely stronger than a German ID. And there's an ID with 2 regiments just out of Cernauti. To make matters more interesting, Soviets have advanced slightly towards Satu Mare.

So - do I turn my Lvov armada east, towards Tarnopol and to Kiev? Or do I turn it south, to save my southern flank?

Soviet long-range bombers, pre-game data (part 1)

Post by Rysyonok »

It's time to take a hard look at long-range Soviet aviation, as I don't know how many more bombardments I can really take.

SB-2:

USSR starts with 1960 of these in reserve and 562 in service. There is no production/replacement.

Luftwaffe has destroyed 193.

Image

IL-4/DB-3F:

USSR starts with 20 of these in reserve and 1230 in service. The production rate is 88: 48 in Urals (the southern one), 40 in Voronezh.

Luftwaffe has destroyed 70. This is the aircraft responsible for some of the deadlier air raids on German industry.

Cernauti gap

Post by Rysyonok »

After a short debate, Hungarian armored forces shall proceed north-east towards Lvov to meet with German 1 Pz Army.

One regiment shall hold ground and 2 more shall retreat, creating a solid line of Axis troops east of Budapest.

Hopefully, Soviet forces shan't challenge it, as those regiments are only AV88 while Soviet divisions in the area range from AV273 to AV466 (pre-war data).

SB-2bis:

There are 780 reserve and 630 active planes at the beginning of the game. It's not being replaced or produced.

Luftwaffe has claimed 73 of them.

Image

Yak-2:

There are 25 in reserve and 58 active. None are being replaced or produced. None have been lost so far.

Image

Pe-8:

There are only 13 of these planes altogether, and there are no more coming. That's a pity - it's a beautiful plane. None have been lost so far.

Hi Rysyonok. Could you post one more thing? Could you post a screenshot of rumanian P.11f, and count how many of them are in game? And could you check PZL P.24E - is it in game?

I am asking because P.11 were obsolete, and despite having at least 80 of them they were used only for training. Romania also bought/license built 50 improved versions: PZL P.24E - which at least were used against soviets. Chanhe in database would give you fewer but slightly better planes...

Here's PZL P-11F:

Image

I got 11 units in reserve, and 72 active in 2 Rumanian airgroups. There is no production or replacement.

13 have been lost already - most - 11 - when Soviet Black Sea snuck up and bombarded Constanta.

Rumanian pilots, most of them on P-11Fs, are leading Axis top pilots lists - mostly from engagements on 6/23/41. J. Zolnay is the best Axis pilot to date - 4 kills - and he is also flying P-11F.

Image

Here's PZL P-24E:

Image

I got 31 of them active in 1 Rumanian airgroup. They are in production: 5 in Bukharest.

I lost 1 in air-to-air combat.

There are two more fighter planes flown by Rumanian airforce, IAR80B and Bf-109E-3.

Image

I need to research all fighters of german allies as to see which ones I need to concentrate on the most, like I did with bombers :)

Fighters of German allies, 6/25/41: Finland

Post by Rysyonok »

I am continuing research of airforce of Finland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Croatia, and Rumania (see post #29). As far as LBs are concerned, He-111H (Rum) seems to be the level bomber of choice for all minor nations. However, I want to do more research before I actually consider switching factories to produce it. After all, in 1943 I am getting Ju-88A (Fi, Ru, Hu), and it will comes with a replacement rate of 8.

So let's look at fighters. As before, Finnish, Hungarian, Bulgarian, Slovakian, Croatian, and Rumanian air groups can upgrade to each other's planes, but not to German ones (occasionally, a certain upgrade may be reserved only for certain air groups, re: Finnish LeLvs and Do-17z). As Italian, Spanish, and Slovakian airgroups are still yet to arrive, I will omit them at the moment.

Finland:

6 air groups, LeLv24, LeLv26, LeLv28, LeLv30, LeLv32, and LeLv35.

LeLv24 is flying B239A (Fin). There are 10 reserve and 38 active planes. None in replacement or production.

Image

LeLv26 is flying G50bis (Fin). There is 31 active plane. No reserves, replacement, or production.

Image

LeLv28 is flying MS406 (Fin). There are 27 active planes. No reserves or production, but there is a replacement rate of 5.

Image

LeLv30, LeLv32, and LeLv35 are flying Fokker DXXI (Fin). There are 87 active planes. No reserve or production, but there is a replacement rate of 5.

Image

January of 1943 will bring about Bf-109G-2 (Fin, Rum).

Image

Of course there are other planes these squads can upgrade to - I will discuss those in the near future. So far, B239A (Fin) is my favorite - Soviet airforce has already started to show that sending my LBs unescorted is a bad idea. But is this plane worth changing factories to produce it? Stay tuned...

Hungary:

4 'Vadasz' groups, all flying Fiat CR32 (Hun). There are 54 reserve and 96 active planes. None are in replacement or production.

Image

There are two more planes currently in reserve:

Fiat CR42 (Hun) - 36 in reserve, none are replaced or produced

Image

and

Re2000 (Hun) - 3 in reserve, and Budapest is producing 17.

Image

Re2000's production is going to upgrade as time goes:

in November 1942, to Bf-109F-4 (Hun)

Image

and in June 1943, to Bf-109G-6 (Hun).

Post by Rysyonok »

One of the nice features of WiR mod is that certain squadrons may have their own unique upgrade paths...

Finnish LeLv32 has the option of upgrading to CU-75A (Fin). There are 28 in reserve and the replacement rate is 1. LeLv32 needs 30 planes to be able to upgrade.

The good: Soviet airplanes seem to need at least 3:1 ratio to fight Luftwaffe.

The bad: But when they bring 6:1, it's tough.

The ugly: And when they bring several waves, it makes me realize I need to have more than 1 fighter wing on CAP.

Hi, I just found out about this AAR, Thanks to both of you for reporting on your game!

There are no HMG or any MG squads represented in the Mod as there weren´t enough spaces open in the device list for the Axis units. All "Combat Infantry" is modeled as squads. (Squad being 10 men or 1 MG)
There shouldn´t be any GrW42 in any unit before January 43, the availability date for this device. I checked the database and 291ID has the GrW42 in it´s TOE but starts with 0 assigned. So it seems the program just built 5 heavy mortars more than a year in advance! Can you check your industry report to see how many have been built already ahead of time?

Axis Pilot replacement pool

Post by HerzKaraya »

Most of the German JG and KG have named pilots in the database to fill up the ranks if losses or reinforcements are taken (this will not affect your pool). But Aufkl. and specially the Ju52 Transport Gruppen don´t have them, so if you get them up-to-strength you will mostly deplete your pool as these units have plenty of replacement aircraft in the pool and are badly understength on June 22nd. I´m considering to add another 100 pilots to German pool to compensate for this in the next patch.
