SUBJECT: ASW DUTIES.
DATE: DEC 11TH 1941.

Confirmed attacks over enemy submarines after yesterday reportings.

- At 81,71 enemy SS Saury opens fire with deck gun against xAK Daisin Maru near Laoag, but our ship get 3 hits over enemy submarine, her commander decided to submerge, reported on fire.

- At 80,74, enemy SS S-36 opens fire with deck gun against the same ship (xAK Daisin Maru) near Laoag, but our ship get another 3 hits over this enemy submarine. I must request a mention for the artillery officer of this cargo ship.

- Near San Fernando, at 79,73 our ASW assets locate the enemy submarine "Perch". Destroyer "Matsukaze" cannot stablished contact with enemy and abandoned search.

- At 52,72 near Pattani, our ASW TF locate the netherland submarine KVXVII. SC CH-9 get 1 hit over enemy SS.

- Near San Fernando, at 79,72 a ASW destroyer "DD Murasame" find SS "Permit" attacking her with DC but no hits reported.

- Near San Fernando, at 80,74 our DD "Matsukaze" reports 4 hits over enemy SS S-36.

- Near Laoag, at 81,71, 2 SC and PB Kyo Maru tryng to get contact with enemy SS Saury, attacking whith DC no hits reported.

- At 79,72 near San Fernando, PB Akitsui Maru reports attack against enemy Submarine SS Permit, no contact.

- At 79,73 near San Fernando, SS Perch were atacked by ASW Destroyers TG reporting 1 hit with DC.

- At 79,72 near San Fernando, DMS W-20 have reported contact with enemy SS Permit without hits.

TO: VADM TSUKAHARA. 11st AIR FLEET. TAKAO. FORMOSA.
SUBJECT: AIR ATTACK OVER ENEMY SHIPPING AT PHILIPPINES.
DATE: DEC 11Th, 1941.

Today we have sending to bottom three enemy ships. At morning 4 G3M2 and 6 G4M1 launch a torpedo attack sinking xAKL Sagoland and xAKL Compagnia Filipinas off Bataan. 3 G3M2 sinks xAKL Sarangami off Bataan too. 12 G4M1 launch an attack against AP Neptuna and xAK Kanlaon II but no hits were reported.

CO HIJMS Hosho in ASW Duties reporting three torpedo-bombers taken off from carrier and sink xAK Hinsang near Hong Kong.

In the situation map you can see all the enemy submarines reported.

Today after receive incoming disaster messages from Miri Invasion Force we proceed to NE to locate and destroy enemy forces in the area, probably USN Easter Fleet with british elements from Hong Kong (3 destroyers).
At morning we launch an air attack over a cruiser identified like CA HOUSTON, sunk by aerial torpedo launched by our B5N2.
Tomorrow we will follow searching enemy surface forces to sink them.

this morning we launch several waves of torpedo-bombers over enemy ships like following:

-Morning air attack with 6 G3M2 against enemy DD "USS PEARY" near Balabac under heavy rain, 1 G3M2 lost, no hits.

-Afternoon air attack with 9 G4M1 against 3 enemy ships, sinking xAK Tantalus (with troops)after 3 torpedoes hit.

-Afternoon air attack with 4 G3M2 under light rain against DD "USS PEARY". Unsuccesfull, no losses.

-Afternoon air attack with 4 A6M2 Zero from Miri against British Destroyer "Thracian" near Kudat, shell hits 1.

Following your orders, we proceed to send ASW assets after sighting reports by our search/asw aircrafts flying over our maritime links and naval operations areas.

Today we receive the following incoming messages from our assets:

- F1M2 Pete reporting possible SS near Catanduanes (85,78)
- F1M2 Pete reporting sighting allied SS at 81,72 near Laoag 81,72.
- Ki-15II Babas reporting shadow in water at 73,65 near Kingshan.
- D3A1 Val reporting object near surface at 99,58 near Fukue-Jima. DD Numakaze and DD Yugao running fast from Nagasaki to investigate possible contact with enemy SS.
- H6K4 Mavis repors suspected submarine at 133,114 near Roi Namur. 2 PB dispatched from Roi Namur by 4th Fleet HQ.
- C5M2 Babs sighting report allied submarine at 81,72 near Laoag, our ASW assets in the area will try to get contact.
- E13A1 Jake sighting reports periscope at 119,54 near Ominato. 2 SC "Cha" Type patroling nearby, running fast to the area (40 nm away).
-F1M2 Pete reports object near surface at 102,61 near Kanoya. 2 PB dispatched from Yokohama for ASW duties in this area.
-G4M1 Betty repors object near surface at 78,66 near Hong Kong. No Assets in this area.
-C5M2 Babs reports periscope at 84,70 near Batan Island. Our ASW Assets in this area will try to search and destroy enemy submarine.
-E7K2 Alf reports periscope at 80,71 near Laoag. Our ASW Assets in this area will try to search and destroy this enemy contact.

-E7K2 Alf reports object under water at 113,61 near Yokohama. The same ASW TG operating in this area will try to search this contact.
-C5M2 Babs reporting shadow in water at 84,70 near Batan Island. Our ASW Assets in the North Luzon area will try to contact with this.
-C5M2 Babs reporting shape below surface at 81,72 near Laoag. Our ASW Assets in this area will try to get contact.
-xAK Somedono Maru attacked by SS STURGEON at surface. Our ship gets 2 hits over enemy submarine. PROBABLY SUNK !!!.
-ASW attack by PB Keiko Maru at 80,74 near San Ferando against S-36. No Hit. She will follow to search and destroy.
-ASW attack by PB busho Maru at 82,78 near Polillo against SS SEA LION. NO hits. She will follow to search and destroy.
-ASW Attack by DD Yugiri near Patani at 52,72 against netherland submarine KXVII. No hits. Enemy submarine probably damage by former attacks. We will try to send more ASW ships to area.

FROM : GEN HATA. CHINA EXPEDITIONARY ARMY HQ, IN ROUTE.
TO: GEN. TOJO. IGHQ. TOKYO.
SUBJECT: WAR AT CHINA UPDATE.
DATE: DEC 12th 1941.

In this week the enemy have try to capture Ichang and Nanchang with several attacks with heavy losses for the Chinese Army. We will continue with our original planning.
From dec 7th to dec 12th we have lost 1.071 men vs 13.999 chinese casualties.
AT Hong Kong the expeditionary Force under XXIII ARMY COMMAND have get contact with enemy begining with a heavy bombardment over enemy positions. We will launch a deliberate attack to cover our engineers to down enemy fortifications.

In the XXIII ARMY area we have taken the following measures to protect our bases of enemy partisans and launch offensive operations against chinese coastal bases in this area:

- 69th Inf Bn from Chachow in route to garrison Amoy.
- 102th Inf Reg and 51st Eng Regiment from Amoy to Canton, to put under XXIII ARMY HQ.
- 66th Infantry Regiment will support operations against Hong Kong. After it will be in route to Canton to be reserve of XXIII Army.
- 51th Recc Reg to Canton from Tsinkiang to join XXIII ARMY.
- 115th Inf. Reg from Foochow to Canton to join XXIII ARMY.
- 19th Mixed Brigade at Swatow like garrison.
- 36 RGC Division have been sent to Foochow from Swatow.
- 2nd and 5th Rapid Fire Gun Bn will support HK operations and after it will march to Canton like XXIII ARMY Reserves.

XIII ARMY AREA

- 2nd Mixed Regiment sent to garrison Shangai.
- 23th RGC Temp Div from Nanchang to garrison Shangai.
- 21st Division have been embarqued at Shangai under SOUTHERN AREA ARMY.
- Nanking Nv Guaard from Nanking to Nanchang to let 11st and 12nd mixed brigades be relevated from garrison duties in this base.
- Kyoku Nv Guard from Kiukiang in route to Nanking for garrison duties.
- 22nd Division at Hangchow divided in three combat teams, the first to garrison Soochow, the second and third to garrison Hangchow.
- 17th, 15th and 31th Infantry division with 11th and 12th Brigades will operate under XIII ARMY HQ.

XI ARMY HQ.

- 13rd (Wuchang) and 18th (Sinyang) RGC Temp Divisions have been in route to Wuchang.
- 12th RGC Temp Division (Sinyang), 11 RGC Ind Brigade (Hwainan), 14th, 26th and 11th RGC Temp Div at Taichow have been sent to Hankow for garrison duties.
- 27th Temp Div (RGC) have been sent to Tungchow from Taichow.
- HQ XI ARMY, with 34th, 40th, 6th, 116th, 13th, 3rd Divisions, 14th, 18th Infantry Brigades and 138th Infantry Regiment will be free to launch offensive operations against chinese forces.

- I ARMY AREA

- 6th RGC Div from Haichow sent to Suchow (free movement for 32th Division).
- 16th RGC Temp Div from Kaifent and 7 NCPC Brigade (Tientsing) to Tsingtao to relevate 5th Mixed brigade in garrison duties.
- 1st NCPC Bde, 15th RGC Temp Division and 101 NCPC Brigade sent to Tsinan (10th Brigade will be relevated).
- 6th Mongol Cavalry Division sent from Kalgan to Paoting to relevate 110th Infantry Division.
- 3rd NCPC and 4th NCPC Bde at Taiyuan to Chengting to liberate for garrison duties at 6th, 7th and 8th Mixed Brigades.

Enemy AVG spotted at Changsha (22 H-81 aircrafts sighted).

SUBJECT: RETURNING TO BASE. OUT OF AMMO.
DATE: DEC 13TH, 1941.

Today we spotted an enemy ship, a large netherlands TK sailing slowling off Tjilitjap, I proceed to launch 8 torpedoes over the target, getting 3 hits on TK Augustina. I proceed to submerge my boat and enemy ship was listing to starboard heavily. We can confirm the sink.
Out of ammo we proceed to Takao to refuell and rearm for the second war patrol.

SUBJECT: AIR ATTACK OVER ENEMY SHIPPING OFF WEST PHILIPPINES.
DATE: DEC 13rd 1941.

Our floatplanes detected this morning several enemy TF´s near to our patrol war area and we proceed launching the following air attacks vs enemy shipping:

- Morning air attack with 2 A5M4 and 10 B5N2 under clear sky vs xAKL Latouche, and AMc Bittern, no hits reported. 1 B5N2 damage.

- Afternoon air attack with 9 B5N2 escorted by 2 A5M4 under overcast weather, sinking xAKL Fatshan, and xAKL Soochow. Were reported 119 enemy casualties.

We are out of torpedoes and we are heading to CamRamh Bay to refuell and then heading north to Samah to rearm torpedoes for aircrafts.

CA Nachi with 2 DD have been detached to intercept enemy shipping in the area.

TODAY WE HAVE CAPTURE CAGAYAN AFTER HEAVY COMBATS. DADJANGAS HAVE BEEN CAPTURE TWO DAYS AGO FOR A KURE SNLF UNIT. WE ARE PROCEEDING TO PURSUIT DEFEATED ENEMY TROOPS FLEEING TO SOUTHWEST.

OUR LOSSES: 65 MEN. ENEMY LOSSES REPORTED: 865.

THE FOLLOWING TROOPS HAVE BEEN LANDING AT MINDANAO:

DADJANGAS: KURE 2nd SNLF.
CAGAYAN: XVI ARMY HQ. 8th TANK REGIMENT. 2nd SASEBO SNLF. 6th SHIPPING ENGINEER REGIMENT. 9.930 tons of supplies with another 16.358 aboard ships anchored and downloading at Cagayan.

SUBJECT: HONG KONG
DATE: DEC 13th 1941.

Today the HK Expeditionary Force reinforced with XXIII Army Elements fights against the enemy. We get to down their fortifications to level 2. The Commonwealth forces lost 823 men, 2 guns and 26 vehicles. We lost 222 men and 2 vehicles. We will follow on with our operations to complete the liberation of Hong Kong.
