Japanese aircraft production was never in short supply. In Sept 45 they had over 10,000 aircraft that were to be used as kamikazes alone, not counting regular bombers, fighters, recon, ect. The shortfall in Japan was always pilots. And from what I understand the limiting factor in the game in addition to that is numbers of units that Japan can put units in. I saw just yesterday someone saying the Judy 1c only has 1 unit that can outfit it and it is a 9 plane squadron.

The one thing the game removes is the politics involved in aircraft production from the Japanese side, but not from the allied side and I think this is really the chief complaint. Historically 1 person in the pentagon almost got away with torpedoing the P-51 project because he didn't like someone. Fortunately someone saw the plane the British ordered and said "heeeeeyyyy....". Pacific War (GG SSI Games) took the politics out of the allied side allowing the player to change allied production as well. IIRC they could even outfit Marines with P-40s but I could be wrong on that. But this game showed that allowing that made Japan die even faster. So I could only guess that the present system is a pure playability issue. As many many others have said if you don't like PDUs on, then turn them off.

not sure what you are trying to say here Walloc, but what you are quoting means that while you may not see any appreciable increase in replacement pilot EXP, that extra effort from the training command might yield an acceleration of a number of "Students". So think of the National Average as a cap. If current EXP is lower due to your pulling pilots from TRACOM early, as happened in WWII then you may "increase" replacement EXP to the National average, but no higher.

If you are already maxing out training at your national average then the best you can hope for is an acceleration of Time to train. This is where you see the message your quote is referencing.

What i was trying to say is there in the community for a long time have been a prevailing thot, that pilots in Tracom didnt help on exp, periode. Based on some tests some1 made.
My quote was from MichaelM about the inner workings of Tracom. That to me it ably demostrates that they do help if u fall below the national exp max. Pilots can help in getting the exp back up again by having the pilots in tracom. Its just not a certain thing. And no u cant ever get it higher than the national exp max.
The thing that i think has thrown ppl off, is the monthly +-2 so even if u do place enough pilots in tracom it can still fall if unlucky on rolls. Since some ppl have seen their exp continue to fall after they had put pilots into tracom. i think that helped forge the perception they didnt do any thing for exp. 2ndly im not sure ppl "knew" how much was enough to get any help.
Only a few weeks ago the discussion about tracom came up again and it was said by several different ppl that pilots in tracom didnt help on exp and only helped accelerate pilot.
Hench why i asked Dave to put teh quote in the faq thread a couple of weeks ago. To try and squash the incorrect perception in the community.
Funny thing to me is that the info has been on the forum for what 8-9 months and apparently non have put things together.
Its not often that dev teams make "formulars" public and in this case they had. Chit happens, guess no really read MichaelMs message back than or understod what it really meant.

I thot, since tracom came up again, i would try and spred the word one more time to help squash the wrong perception if its still out there. I've found that when ppl see formulars that the designers make public that it tends to stop discussions pretty fast as ppl has some thing they can relate too.

So all i was trying to do was spred the info, helping ya.

Kind regards,

Rasmus

My tests (and a PBEM game) showed that you can get it higher, but only "within the year".

Don't misunderstand, I'm not arguing with you, just pointing out my experience :).

This is true, but it's also my understanding that production of the best (i.e. up to date) planes was a problem, and these especially suffered from problems with manufacturing being unable to produce reliable components (that actually met specifications).

Ok, i've never seen it and apparently it shouldnt be possible if i read the intend correct, but i take ur words for it.
U seen it, u seen it. Wouldnt be the first time a computer program doesnt quite work as intended.
Maybe u should post it in support forum, so the dev team can have a look at it.

Kind regards,

Rasmus
