SUBJECT: Borneo & Mindanao War Report
DATE: Dec 11st, 1941.

I am proud to announce that Kure 1st SNLF have captured Surigao !

Our forces have landing at Cagayan and Davao. Tomorrow Miura Det will launch a shock attack with 146th Infantry Regiment at Reserve to pursue fleeing enemies.

DD Kawakaze have bee dettached from Nagara´s Flotilla to join with DMS W-7 & W-8 to run an ASW ops north of Mindanao where one enemy submarine have been spotted.

DD Suzukaze with 3 PB´s will cover ASW Cagayan landings.

Nagara´s Flotilla with CL Nagara and 4 destroyers will bombard enemy positions at Cagayan and will run to Babeldaob to refuell and reload. They will escort a new landing force to Dadjanjas.

A Dutch submarine have unsuccesfully attacked a destroyer from CARDIV3. Two enemy submarines have been spotted in south Mindanao waters.
Three enemy 2E bombers have raided over Ryujo TF. Our A5M4 have been enought to scattered downing
one of them (credit to CPO Minegishi from Ryujo-1). One of our A5M4 have crashed on landing with 1 more damaged on landing (two days for repairs).

Ryujo air complement have launched an air raid over Davao. No enemy ships on harbor.

9th JNAF Coy is beeing shipped at Babeldaob aboard XAK Taiehi Maru to be transported to Surigao.

At South Indochina-East Malaya heavy enemy sub activities, XAK Brazil Maru was hit by one enemy torpedo launched from unknown submarine, ship with moderate damages.. CM Kamome have been sunk after two torpedos struck her, sending to bottom. XAK Gosei Maru was attacked unsuccesfully by another dutch submarine. A fourth attack have been reported by XAK Toho Maru near Singora. 04 torpedoes were launched against our ship but no hits were reported. Near Soc Trang one ASW pickett have ping another submarine but escort abandons search after loosing contact.

At Kota Bahru enemy launched a massive air strike with 6 Blenheim & 7 Hudson escorted by 16 Buffalos. In LRCAP 4 Ki-27b flying from Singora. No enemy or own losses.

I, II and III/90th Infantry Bns (crack troops) have been shipped at Fusan to reinforce our forces in Borneo area. They will arrive to CamRanh Bay under heavy ASW escort.

Our forces have landed at Kudat and tomorrow Brunei Landing Force will arrives to target.

3rd Air Division HQ with 27th and 35th JAAF AF Bn will start strategic move tomorrow from Pnom Penh to Kota Bahru.

64th Sentai have been upgraded to Ki-43Ic Hayabusa.

I-10 oceanic submarine have reported her first enemy sinking. An enemy Tanker have been spotted and sinks from gunfire near Samoa Island. Enemy ship was identified like TK GULFDAWN.

Canton Blockade Force nearby to War Patrol Areas.
North Hawaii Blockade Force with no news, no sightings reports.
North D.E.I.Blockade Force with no news, nearby to arrives to their War Patrol Areas.

G3M2 from 1st Ku K-1 at Takao reports 1 hit over one enemy sub in Formosa South Area (84,68).
G3M2 from Genzan Ku K-1 at Saigon reports 1 hit on enemy sub in South Indochina Area (62,75).

Yokosuka Ku T-1 with 3 H6K4 have been deployed at Bihoro (Hokkaido) to LR naval search / ASW ops.

Yokosuka Ku S-1 have received 12 A5M4 from reemplacement pool to fullfill ranks to 36 aircrafts.
Yokosuka Ku T-3 have received 12 E8N2 from reemplacement pool to fullfill ranks to 24 aircrafts.


04 enemy submarines spotted in the Formosa-Luzon area.
01 enemy submarine spotted in North Formosa area.
12 enemy submarines was spotted in the same area two days ago heading northeast, probably to Yellow Sea-Kyushu Area.
02 enemy submarines spotted in the South Mindanao and 1 more in North Mindanao.
02 enemy submarines spotted in North Borneo Area.
03 enemy submarines spotted in Indochina waters.
01 enemy submarine spotted near Malaya coast.

Coastwatchers have reported 01 enemy ship docked at Wenchow !!. (this was reported to China Area Fleet).

xAP Teibi Maru about to start building (171 days to completion).
xAK Asama Maru ordered to be converted to AKE at Tokyo shipyards (21 days to completion). -Aden-

(2) Korea ASW Deployment.

46th JAAF AF Bn & 52nd Construction Coy have arrived to Chinhae. AF will be level up to begins with ASW air ops.
51st Construction Coy have arrives to Masan to level up airfield.
10th JAAF Base Force have arrived in strategic move to Masan, this unit will move to Moppo at once to support ASW air ops in Korea Straits.
2nd Air Division HQ, 31st Road Construction and 14th JNAF AF Unit have arrived to Gunzan. There will be our Yellow Sea ASW Command. 2nd Air Division HQ will coordinate all air ASW assets in this area. AF will be level up.
40th Construction Co, 53rd & 209th JAAF Bns have arrived at Keijo. There will be our ASW Air Training Command. AF will level up.
30th JAAF AF Bn have arrives to Kaishu.
3rd FF Construction Bn & 26th JAAF Bn have arrives to Chinnampo. AF will be level up.
Air transfers will begin when AFs will be at readiness conditions.

(3) Convoys assets
Convoy 001 have arrives to Shimonoseki from Nagasaki with 40.538 tons of resources without news.
Convoy 002 is loading resources at Takamatsu and will departure to Kobe when ready.
Convoy 003 have departure from Hakodate today with 60.480 tons of resources. ETA Ominato Dec 11st 1941.
Convoy 004 have departure from Shangai Dec 11th with 42.030 tons of resources heading to Shimonoseki, ETA Dec 13rd 1941.
Convoy 005 is loading resources at Matsuyama with 10 Gozan cargo ships. Will head to Tokuyama.
Convoy 006 is loading resources at Tsingtao with 09 Aden cargo ship. When ready will await to ASW escorts and head to Shimonoseki.
Convoy 007 is loading resources at Keijo with 09 Aden cargo ships.
Convoy 008 is loading resources at Kushiro with 10 Gozan Cargo Class ships. Will be escorted by CVE Hosho TG and 2 CHa-Type Subchassers. This convoy will head to Sendai.
Convoy 009 is loading Oil at Shikuka with 3 smalls Tankers. Will head to Niigata refineries.
Convoy 010 is loading Resources at Fukuoka with 33 Daigen xAKL freighters.
Convoy 011 is loading Oil at Port Arthur with 4 Tonan Whalers. 1 DD and 1 PC will escort this convoy to Shimonoseki.

Cantona2´s PC will be in drydock with a power supply problem, probably will be ready for "action" soon, but I will not have any turn today, then It´s time to show plans until follow up with combats.

FROM: LGEN Homma, XIV Army C-in-C, at Aparri
TO: GEN Terauchi, Southern Area Army HQ, Saigon
SUBJECT: LUZON PLANNING
DATE: Dec 11st, 1941

(1) IJN GROUND UNITS

1st SNLF (-) will capture Calayan, Itbayat and Babuyan Islands.

(2) IJA GROUND UNITS

Kanno Det will await at Vigan to be reinforced with 48th Division elements (Vigan II Landing Force). When landings, Kanno Det will march to Bayombang to join with Tanaka & XIV Army elements. 48th División will march to San Fernando and Lingayen.

65th Infantry Brigade and 7th Tank Regiment (Batangas landing force) will await transports returning from Luzon to be shipped to Batangas. CRURON 16 and DESRON 4 will cover Batangas landings.

Motorized support from 5th Air Div pending to recive orders to be shipped to Aparri (light elements transfered by airlift).

(3) JAAF UNITS

14th JAAF AF Bn & 14th JAAF AF Coy will departure from Takao aboard xAK Kinryu Maru and xAKL Koyu Maru escorted by PBs.
48th JAAF Bn at Takao aboard xAK Arimasan Maru will await to ASW escorts to be shipped to Vigan.

8th Sentai will be transfered to Aparri when AF will be at level 2 (1+40% at Dec 11st).
8th Sentai Det A (7 Ki-15II) will be deployed at Cabanatuan when captured and 14th JAAF Coy will be deployed there.
52nd I.F Chutai (13 Ki-51) and 74 I.F.Chutai (10 Ki-36) will be deployed at Tuguegarao when captured and support units will arrive (14th JAAF AF Bn).
14th Sentai (18 Ki-21IIa) and 16th Sentai (31 Ki-30) wil be transfered to San Fernando when captured and 4th JAAF B.Force will arrive to this base.
3rd Ku S-1 Det A & Det B will be deployed provisionally at Vigan when air support sill be available. When air superiority over Luzon will be absolute these units will be redeployed with 23rd Air Flotilla.

SUBJECT: Damage Report and transit changes
DATE: Dec 11st, 1941

Today we have been attacked on surface by enemy submarine. 12 hits were reported aboard. We responds enemy fire and get 2 hits on enemy boat.

In spite of received orders at incoming message from 2nd Fleet HQ to follow up with our transport mision to Makin Island at Gilbert Is., I am must to report our damages :

20 system
24 flood (5 major)
10 engine
6 fires

Moreover XAKL Jinsan Maru is out of 12cms ammo for my forward gun. Only 25% of ammo for my rear 8cms gun. 1 Type 93 AAMG is out of service. Reserve of fuel is 89%

My unescorted ship can only get 5 knots and this waters are infested of enemy submarines. Distance to Makin is so large and my ship will no reach my target on estimated time of arrival. Request permision to change my transit to Naha in Okinawa Island and transfer my labor unit to another ship. My own boat will be there to get readiness condition before receive drydock orders.

CVL ZUIHO, 21 aircrafts, 18 torpedoes aboard and 93% fuel.
ETA Cam Ranh Bay: Dec 17th, 1941.

ASW CarDiv under CPT Yoshimi Takao reporting docked at Kushiro (Hokkaido) awaiting to departure and escort convoy to Sendai.
1 CVE, 3 EE.

CVE HOSHO, 15 aircrafts, 6 torpedoes aboard and 100% fuel.

1st Mobile Force reporting 80 nm SE Iwo Jima, heading south to Truk and following Port Moresby Invasion Force (4th Infantry Division).
4 BB, 1 CS, 1 CL, 13 DD (8 of them dettached to ASW-tasks)

ETA Truk: Dec 16th, 1941. Will be awaitin at Truk to 1st Air Fleet arrival to departure to target.

Heavy Cover Malaya Expeditionary Force under RADM Ikeda P., is heading Shangai to reload and refuel. After reload will return to Borneo to support Kuching landings.

CRURON 7 under Takeo Kurita command, reporting about 160 nm north of Brunei, heading this enemy base to support landings. Will support Miri and Kuchig landings.

CRURON 8 under RADM Aritomo Goto, reporting at Guam, supporting landings. Will head to Truk to join with Main Body Combined Fleet.

(2) Ships under repairs & due to repairs.

CA Ashigara, damaged after clash with british destroyers off Formosa, Damage Report: 12 System, 8 Engines. She will arrive to Shangai Dec 12nd for drydock repairs.
DD Yayoi, damaged after collides with a PB at Marshalls, Damage Report: 1 System, 5 flood, 27 Engines. She will arrive to Truk Dec 14th 1941.

I'm keeping my eye on your results for your north eastern blockade force by PH.  I've never had a open ocean war patrols that netting anything so I hope to see if yours do.

NO sightings were reported by North-Eastern Blocakde Force (Hawaii), in spite that 5 of my patrolling submarines in this War Area are deploying Glenns in Naval Search missions...These boats will be in patrol at this area until bingo fuel or bingo winchester will be reached.

DATE: Dec 12nd, 1941.


xAK Konan Maru, an Akasi Cargo Class with 3,675 tons of displacement have been torpedoed by an enemy submarine at Mauban while she was unloading supplies for our landing expeditionary force. Damage Report: 50 system, 54 flood, 12 Engineer, 52 fires. She will firefighting off Mauban, awaiting Mauban will falls in our hands tomorrow to be docked in this port.

xAK Gosei Maru was sunk by enemy submarine near Saigon.

xAK Meiten Maru, an Ehime Cargo Class, was torpedoed near Saigon. Damage Report: 18 System, 66 Floating, 29 Engineer and 5 Fires. She is 80 nm west of Cam Ranh and will head to this naval base at cruise speed.

xAK Zenyo Maru, a Yusen-N Cargo class with 6.400 tons of displacement, was torpedoed by enemy submarine off Singora. Damage report: 12 system, 62 flood, 25 engineer, 2 fires. She will head to Nakhon Si Thammarat to be docked, only 40 nm west of her last position.

37th Construction Coy was unloaded from damaged xAKL Jinsan Maru at Naha (Okinawa). Will be needed a xAK to transport this labor unit to Makin Island.

General Quarters in all 12nd Air Flotilla units. Several Daitais have been orderer to begin with ASW patrol in Kyushu Area to detect enemy submarines in this area:

-Chinhae Ku T-1 will fly ASW mission at 1.000 feet with 3 E7K2 (80%, 4 ready aircrafts)
-Sasebo Ku T-1 will fly ASW mission at 1.000 feet with 2 E13A1 (50%, 4 ready aircrafts)
-Sasebo Ku T-2 will fly an LR ASW mission at 4.000 feet with 9 H6K4 (80%, 12 ready aircrafts)
-2nd CCF Det T-1 will fly ASW mission at 100 feet with 3 E7K2 (all ready aircrafts available)
-CTF Det-1 will fly ASW mission at 100 feet with 4 B5M1 (80%, 6 ready aircrafts)

AD Goyo Maru will arrives to Kagoshima to support coastal ASW ships Ops.

One G3M2 from 1st Ku K-1 have report a hit over enemy submarine at 84,66 (Formosa Straits)

1 G3M1 from Genzan Ku K-1 was crashed on landing. (Saigon)
2 G3M1 from Bihoro Ku K-1 was crashed on landings (Cam Ranh Bay) (!!)

2 G3M1 from 1st Ku K-1 were damaged on landings. (Takao).

FORMOSA-LUZON ASW Report:

3 Subchassers Ch Type will escort 11 transport ships returning home from Aparri to Takao.
2 minesweepers DMS Type will escort 4 transport ships returning home from Vigan to Takao.

4 Subchassers Ch Type will rendezvous with Vigan II Landing Force to improve ASW cover.
DD Harukaze and DD Matsukaze are escorting at ASW duties Vigan II.
DD Ikazuchi & DD Inazuma patrolling at ASW between Takao and Aparri.

SUBJECT: Phillipine Islands Report
DATE: Dec 12nd 1941.

21st & 23rd Air Flotillas reporting morning air attack over Manila port. Under light rain 42 G4M1 escorted by 61 A6M2 have smashed naval yard at Cavite. Enemy C.A.P. over target was 32 P-40s and 3 P-35s. Enemy lost 7 P-40s downed by our fighters. Our losses 4 A6M2 in air combat.
DD Thracian was spotted docked at Manila. Previous report of sinking is incorrect. Enemy destroyer struck by 1 bomb hit. xAKL Compagnia Filipinas was hit by our bombs too.

Vigan III Landing Force (9th Infantry Regiment) will departure tomorrow from Batan Island heading Vigan.

RADM Takeo Takagi CARDIV 3 reporting air attack over enemy naval forces at anchor on Tarakan. 12 B5N2 have launched a torpedo attack against several destroyers and 1 auxiliar ship. 02 torpedoes were reported hit on AS OTUS. She is reported sunk. 01 B5N1 from Ryujo-2 crashes on landing. Another one was damaged on landing. CARDIV 3 recalled to Babeldaob.

Tomorrow is planned an ground attack to capture Cagayan.

Enemy recon aircraft spotted over Batan Island.

NO news from Northern East Hawaii Blockade Force.

I-164 reports sinking of enemy AG Cnopus near Tjilitjap engaged at surface.

From Kwajalein, tomorrow will departure New Caledonian Blockade Force with following boats:
I-16, I-18, I-20 and I-22. Orders to unrestricted submarine war dispatched.

2 RO and 2 Oceanic I Type Submarines docked at Hiroshima, awaiting orders.
09 submarines from Hawaii Expeditionary Force will arrive tomorrow to Kwajalein. Orders to raise the East Australian Blockade Force will be ready soon.

SUBJECT: Phillipine island Report - Malaya Report
DATE: Dec 13rd, 1941

xAK Rakuyo Maru (Damage Report: 15 floating damage (6 Major)) will cruise to Yokohama from Mauban. She can´t docked at this port by size. All forces unloaded at this base. Enemy was severely mauled with 1.732 phillipine army casualties from 51st P.A. Division vs 81 IJA men lost.

2nd Fleet Heavy Cover Force (BB Kongo and BB Haruna) sunk 2 enemy PT Boats in his transit to Shangai.

DD Inazuma was torpedoed and sunk by enemy submarine in her war patrol area near Takao.

5th Air Div motorized support being shipped aboard xAK Azumasan Maru. 3 ASW destroyers will rendezvous at Takao to ASW protection.

Itbayut Island was occupied.

11st Tpt Chutai & 13rd Spc Tpt Unit B return back to Kagi after completed transfered of 5th Air Div to Aparri (light devices).

21st & 23rd Air Flotillas air groups have take off to smash Clark Field AF. 64 A6M2 escorting 42 G4M1 have raided enemy air facilities at this base. AT CAP several P-40s. Two of them were reported downed by 1 G4M1 lost. Our pilots reporting 45 runway hits over runway. A second wave with 13 Ki-21IIa have not meet any air resistance and bombed AF with another 14 hits.

At Aparri, 8 enemy B-17 were intercepted by 13 Ki-27b. All enemy bombers fleeing.

DESRON 4 (Manila blockade force) reports enemy air attacks with 11 P-35A. No hits over our ships. No enemy aircrafts lost.

RADM Takeo Takagi from CARDIV3, aboard HIJMS Ryujo reporting an enemy freighter was sunk by her torpedo bombers. In a second attack, two enemy four-stacks destroyers were sunk by aerial bombs from her air complement. DD John D Ford was sunk after magazine explodes and DD Peary was reported dead on water.

Cagayan was assaulted like planned, by we need to await I/33rd Infantry Bn (that will arrive in three days) to capture this base. We lost 277 men vs. 233 enemy casualties reported.

146 I.Regiment will attack tomorrow at enemy fleeing elements from Davao.

1 G3M2 was damaged on flak by enemy submarine near Iriomote.
3 H6K4 from Toko Ku K-1 at Babeldaob grounded due to maintenance.

8th Sentai was transfered to Aparri (leve 2 AF).

Guam falls in our hands and 144th I.Regiment is loading in the same TF and Heavy Cover to head Truk and will await 1st Mobile Force and CarDiv 1 & 5 to departure like Rabaul landing force.

At Pakhoi, 21st Mixed Brigade have landings. Light enemy resistance (64th Chinese Corps).

In Borneo area, xAK Brazil Maru sinks after was torpedoed yesterday. Brunei falls in our hands (10 oil refineries were damaged). CRURON 7 and landing elements from Brunei and Kudat returning to CamRanh Bay. Forces to Miri Landing Forces at readiness condition.

One enemy submarine was spotted in Brunei and another one in Kudat area.

SUBJECT: XI Army offensive.
DATE: Dec 13rd 1.941.

A.- 32nd Division / A have captured Kweiteh. Enemy falls back after 962 casualties.
B.- 35th Infantry division have cross the river and smash enemy defenders. Chinese lost 1.209 men.
C.- 13rd Tank Regiment with 9th Armoured Car Coy have cross the river and take a bridgehead to Changteh.
D.- At Sinyang our forces have got a great victory against chinese bandits. 1.996 enemy casaulties there.

At Tiaotso, 16th Mixed Brigade will assault tomorrow.
Wenchow Expeditionary Forces will begin march tomorrow from Hangchow to Wenchow.
21st Infantry Brigade (dettached from Southern Area Army) have landing at Pakhoi. We hope in this week this port in South China Sea will be in our hands.
