Unit pics too cartoonish?

The team behind the award-winning game Advanced Tactics is back with a new and improved game engine that focuses on the decisive early days of World War II! Decisive Campaigns: The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris is the first in an innovative series of operational World War II wargames that also include a strategic element. The Blitzkrieg from Warsaw to Paris simulates Germany’s military successes in Poland and France in 1939 and 1940 (including also a hypothetical “Sea Lion” invasion of Great Britain).

I am thinking about to scale down a bit faces...
personally i think it would look just fine if just the first face showed and none more showed unless it was a different type, its kind of repetitive

Tastes are different. It would be pretty boring if all games suit all people ;)
Vic and me are pretty pleased with the outcome.

That being said. This game is fully and very easy modable. This was a design goal.
The unit artwork is a layered system. Consisting of background landscape, unit / equipment picture, soldier picture and front landscape. All easily accessible.
Basically, if you wanted to get rid of the single soldier faces all you would need to do is to replace them by a blank transparent PNG.

Nice work Marc‘n Vic, you know how long I’ve been riding Matrix to let you guys to unleash your talents .

Well done…………..[;)]

PS/LOL, you ever notice how Art never matters to war gamers till it shows talent [:D]

I had a question on the unit icons. Do they appear as this if you choose them too, if so I really like the look.

You have to toggle them on by pressing 1.  If you press 2, they change to NATO icons.

I'm not dedicated enough to mod the whole game, but just playing around with the graphics files it's real easy to edit/replace almost every image in the game.  I took out the faces that were annoying me and put 'historical flags' in their place...

Hmmm.... I can't figure out how to post the screenshot.  Anyone?  I'm sure I've done this in the past lol

Ah - here we go. No faces, just flags, but it can be any image you choose...

Just to show how easily these images can be modded, here's some more stuff I've done for my personal use. I used images from Volcano's mod for the HPS series, so I can't share this work unfortunately, but I'm sure some real modders will be creating new content.

If anyone has some alternative infantry images they can send me, I'd appreciate that.  I've been searching the net all afternoon.

I love the artwork except for the faces of the soldiers staring out right at me

Lol! Not too bad actually... The faces in Squad Battles are horrendous. But I still love that game and play PBEM every night.

probably a dumb question but here goes ... does the background imagery reflect the terrain the unit is in?

It appears to ... but what do I know. (i.e., grassy plains only show grass, urban shows buildings, woods show trees, etc etc)

This game looks interesting ... I downloaded Advance Tactics Demo a year or so ago ... I didn't buy it but I may this one.

Yes the background shows terrain the unit is current in.

Thanks ... that's a good thing.

If this tittle is developed further, the attacks on Poland and France is a perfect starting point. Personally, I would like to see subsequent titles be released in chronological order ... with possibly a method to link the campaigns into a full WWII series. It would be fun to play through 1939 to 1945 .... through the North Africa campaigns, Barbarossa, Stalingrad, Kursk, Italy, Normandy, ... etc etc

That makes excellent sense! I'd enjoy that as well.

Buy it. You won't regret it. This is coming from a guy who is never 100% happy with any of the games sold here!
