I recall my first efforts on SILIAC, toggling switches and swapping patch cords to programme it. The vacuum tubes (thermionic valves) built up so much heat you could only stay in the computer room for 15 minutes max. (It had 4K memory!)
That was a long time ago, though. Hollerith punch cards were EASY-PEASY!
I'm glad I've lived long enough to run a quad-core with 2Gb RAM. Sweet!

I just have more time on my hands than most, being retired from employment. I also keep unsociable hours (I tend to get out of bed about 3:00 am) and I fill in with online time until after dawn when I can start gardening or shopping or something.

My dear Tomokatu I hope that you being retired from employment means you are of age to retire and not a victim of the current downturn of unemployment, it can be very devastaing to want to work and cannot fine work, praying for you bud.

I left full-time employment in my IT career in '94, due to cutbacks and layoffs and then found that I was "over-qualified" (translation "too old") to get another job in the same field (I was a network cabling specialist - Token Ring and Ethernet, for large single-building corporate installations). There were a few years I was eating snails and I worked as a gardener in a girls' high school for a few years, but my body gave out with the level of physical effort involved. [X(]
But, my pension matured at age 60 and I now live reasonably comfortably on about $A13K per annum, so I'm happier than I ever was while working and my stress and tension levels have dropped amazingly. I no longer snap and snarl at people as I used to do and I can still do most of the things I always used to enjoy. [8D] Probably got another good decade in me.
Bo, I wish you the same level of equanimity that I enjoy. Retirement (if with a secure but modest income) is a dream come true and the best thng that ever happened to me.

Howsomever, the invitation to Wastelands stands. One of the biggest problems of the game is the impossibility of supplying an overseas force properly. It needs explaining for instance why the US can put forces in Australia, but then is not allowed to send a convoy there because the US forces are required to use local supply (which is at a lower rate).
Matrix is , without doubt, one of the two best game companies when it comes to caring about its customers. They have helped me with every problem I ever had, and gone to a great deal of trouble to make it work. The only other company like this is Ageod.
Paradox used to be good, but they just do not care anymore.
