HQs way behind the front lines may collect support units, even if they are set to 0; clear them out early, if possible, then lock them so units don't wander over to them.

Airfield Attacks

I do not use the AI as i have found on occasions that it neglects an obvious target; use sparingly as AXIS after Turn 1, except for (1) if you find a target at full strength with 100+ aircraft, you can get lossess of 10:1 in your favour and (2) if one of your ground units is going to bump into an airfield, bomb it first to create some potential lossess from the ground action; on a number of occasions over running an airfeild (without first bombing) has produced zero aircraft losses for the enemy.

Finns No Pass line

When playing as AXIS on the Road to leningrad, the Soviets retreat behind the Finns no Move line; do not advance Finns right up to this line as once or twice the AI will move a unit to the North of this line which you can then surround and eliminate
Molotov : This we did not deserve.

Foch : This is not peace. This is a 20 year armistice.

For those of you who may be having some trouble with some scenario's and need some good tips (like me.[:)]), switch sides and let the AI show you a few things. It's amazing what it does and makes you say" Why didn't I think of that!" or "I didn't know we could do that!" Letting the AI play for a little bit can really help in understanding the mechanics of the game and give you some good planning ideas.

Remember the rules for automatic HQ allocation of SUs to combat:
For hasty attacks:
SUs will only be assigned if the HQ is within 5 hexes, and the HQ has not moved

For deliberate:
HQ must be within 5 hexes, but it does not matter if HQ has moved.

For your motorized/armored especially, but for any HQ that has combat units attached, think of where your combats are going to be NEXT turn, and be within 5 hexes of that at the end of THIS turn. Closer if you anticipate rolling hasty attacks (as with the Germans in the start of 41). SUs can have a significant impact on combats.

They make small, deliberate attacks mighty.
They make stacked-unit, hasty attacks have more punching power.

Surrendered Axis Allies are permanantely destroyed and cannot be rebuilt!!![:D]

I can see the tank armies need to be busy with Army Group South.

It's time to thin the line!

Need tips for playing as Germans.

How bout higher than corps-level HQ:s in the field? Like Army HQ and upper than that? Any thumb rule of where they should be deployed and how?

Same thing to Air units HQ:s and bases - what´s the most efficient way to use these when on offensive.

thx

Don't over-tinker with Army HQ movements as German. Be within 15 of your corps, in all cases. That is sufficient. Adjust for weather. Trucks are precious, and there are (apparently) a lot of hairpin, exposed-cliff turns on Russian roads, because we're crashing ALL the time...

Globally Setting Support Levels for HQs in CR

Open the CR
Click on the HQs tab
Set filters as:
Nation: GE
HQ Type: Here deselect all the HQ you don't want to set, for example you may only want to set the HiCom, or ArmyGrp, or Army or the Corps, that way you set for example the O.K.H. to 0, AGN, AGC, AGS to 1, and 18, 16, 4th PzG, 1st PzG, etc. to 2 and all the Corps to say 3. In just a few clicks.

2 attachments to follow.

i CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MUCH HELP.......oh sorry I did not mean to shout but this a big help to a old newbie! I copied the 2files and
then printed them out. The print is small for my old eyes but I have a magnifier to use when I set up my game. If you have any other setup stuff like this you can email me at maddgamer2 at g mail dot com or email me for my real address as the gmail is for other stuff.

Madgamer2 thanks
