No moving and shooting on same turn?

Right, if i select a squad from a platoon of three squads for example with all three squads of the platoon moving and i hit "H" the move orders for the whole platoon would be canceled in the orders phase. If i repeated this in the reaction phase only the selected sqaud in the platoon would cancel its movement. So i was asking that whenever the "H" key was pressed regaurdless of which phase i am currently in or which orders the platoon is currently under that only the selected squad would stop. Sometimes i find pressing "H" does nothing in certain circumstances and you have to select from the UI dropdown menu, i was hoping "H" could be used as a shortcut to halt a squad universely and "SHIFT+H" halt the platoon.

I don't have the game available right now, but I thought it does work as you describe above already. If you have a platoon of tanks moving already (from a previous orders phase), and you are in another orders phase, if you select the tank and order it to halt, it should halt only that tank, the other tanks should keep moving. in fact you could select one of the tanks and hit T to target an enemy unit and that one tank would halt and target while the other continued moving. But like I said, I don't have the game here so I can't verify.

Thats good to hear Rick i will pick it up again if this gets altered, also could the function of the "H" key slightly and have it hold position/halt of just the sqaud/tank regardless of the current orders, not the whole formation, maybe "SHIFT+H" holds position of the whole formation instead. Its a fun game but these are the main two things that pissed me off and have kept me playing it much scince i purchased six months ago and having to select the formation leader to change orders for the formation, i know he is the head honcho and all, the man with the plan, but from a game point of view changing orders from anybody in the formation would save some needless faffing. Hey, no harm in asking right [:)]

At present if a platoon or tank formation is moving and i was to select a sqaud or a tank from a moving platoon depending on what move order the selected tank or squad was performing and what "Phase" of the turn i was currently in pressing "H" would have a different effect, somtimes stopping the selected squad, sometimes stopping the entire platoon or tank formation and somtimes for the engage/move order it would have no effect as if you open the dropdown menu orders in the UI for "Engage" you will see a "hold" order listed but next to it no hotkey listed for "Hold", so sometimes pressing the "H" key while on a "engage/move" order has no effect and i have to select the "Hold" order under the "Engage" dropdown in the ui to halt my moving units, then i think this functions differently depending on the current phase, stopping a squad or a platoon. It might be easier to try it out for yourself and you will find that using the "H" hotkey functions differently under different circumstances. I was just asking whether it can be altered to have the same function across the board regaurdless of move orders an phases, by just stoping the selected squad or tank not platoon or tank formation.
I understand that some orders are only possible in the "Orders" phase, but its the little differences like this and being unable to change the orders of your platoon or tank formation without first having to select the leader and the way a tank will just sit there being fired upon and not even returning fire even though it can see its attacker untill the next phase kicks in if it has completed a "engage/move" that phase that really put me off giving the game the attention. I dont know, maybe it is just me, maybe these things are fine for others, it just ruins the enjoymentof what is a good game to be honest, I would just like these things looked at as i think in my opinion that the game would be all the better for it and am hoping that in a future patch these little things could be addressed.

The "W" for withdraw doesnt get my goat as much as i never retreat, lol. Just some more consistancy with the orders.
I have been playing a few games of PCO over the weekend to see if i can get back into the game as it was things like i have listed and the whole no shooting on the same phase after a move order that stopped me from playing soon after i purchased, they just annoyed the hell out of me, so i quit.
I have checked through the latest beta patch notes to see what had been changed ect to see if any of the things that annoy me have been altered and so seeing how you guys are still working on the PCO thought i would put the qeustion out there in the hopes that they may be added to a future patch.

Actually, this is the first time this was discussed. Most people re-issue orders at every orders phase as they mainly play Germans. (If there is a change of situtation then it may be a good time to re-issue orders.)
The halt during orders phase would benefit Russians the most because changing to new Rushing and Charging orders cause them delay. So to halt individual units while the rest of the platoon continues a charge for more turns would help the Russian side. (However much that unit would be at risk of insubordination)[:D]

Right, had no idea that to change this would break the way the Russian side played, i have only played as the German side. I am trying to point out that the orders in some ways seem awkward and inconsistant.
Another example would be a platoon of three squads of Germans deployed in position not moving so all would be under the defend stay order. Now on my next turn an enemy comes into view of one of the sqauds but the other to squads in the platoon can not see it. What i want to do is very simple, the squad that has eyes on the enemy i want to target the enemy, the other two sqauds who cannot yet see the enemy i want them to do nothing.
I would have thought that in order to do this i would select my squad that can see the enemy hit "T" and left click on the enemy this would then effectivley mean the orders for the platoon would have changed to the engage order but they have all still remained in position and just changed to the engage orders.
It does not work that way though as first i would need to select the platoon leader to change the platoons orders to engage as you can only change a platoons orders through the leader, then as selecting engage/hold straight of the bat would not actually change the platoons orders from defend to engage i would instead need to give him a (temperary) engage/target or (temperary) engage/move order so i can then target with my intended squad so i select the squad that has the eyes on the target and hit "T" and click on the target.
Now i have to back track as i dont won't my squad leader who got the temperary orders at the begining to area fire or moving i dont wont him doing anything yet he is to just remain in postition so if an enemy does come into view later he has the chance to auto target, so i have to go back and select the platoon leader and give him the engage/hold order from the drop down menus, it is a lot of extra seemingly needless faffing.

Engage>Stay works the same as Defend>Hold with the addition is that you can target specific units with Engage units. Others in Engage auto-target if no target is select. The downside is that I have tested this and it seems Defend>Hold units spot slightly better than Engage>Stay.

I only use the orders menus so I don't know what the orders hot-keys work which way. But, yes, I would sometimes like to target with Defend in the orders phase. Makes me wish I had given the platoon Engage instead of Defend, especially if I'm playing Russian.

Defend is made for ambushing though. You can hold fire and wait for the enemy to approach. When they get in range you would switch to Engage in the Orders phase or Target in the reaction phase then in the next orders phase give a full Engage order.
