Time to set up CW and as with all nations they begin with scrapping units.

With CW I scrap heavily among the TRS. Maybe to heavy but I do prefer to begin with good transporters. CW has three motorized from the beginning and I scrap the worst one so I can begin with two strong Mot. I find that the two Mot will fast find themselves in the front lines defending against German panzers and then every strength point can make critical difference. But there is a risk that I will miss that 5-4 Mot later on.

Here is the land and aircraft units that must be placed in UK. The numbers below the aircraft tell us what type of aircraft it is and how many that are available to be placed on the map of that type and the last number tell us the total of that aircraft. This only applies when playing with the optional pilot rule. So out of the fighters (FTR2) CW gets to place two on the map and the other two gets placed in the reserve pool

While CW has no special set up rules the areas where they place their units cover most of the world.

In UK I place the land units on ports so they can easily be transported to mainland Europe.

The aircraft I place on the east coast so they can fly air missions over Germany, Netherlands, Belgium or France. That is if the range permits, of course.

In the set up tray you see two territorials (TERR) that are to be placed in the area "Europe, Mid-East, Africa" and that sounds like they can be placed pretty much anywhere in half the world but in reality they must be placed in their own home countries. So not any freedom there.

Only three units to be placed in Egypt and Palestine. I will consider placing one of the units with "free" set up here later on. And some ships as well.

Note that the Wawell HQ is, at the moment, out of supply. This because I have yet to place the convoy chains that will provide sea supply to Egypt and other place of the world.

I place the "Asian" forces in Aden so it can fast reach the Mediterranean if needed. I place one of the four TRS that CW has available in order to transport the Indian corps to help defend against Italian aggression.

Edit: I Aden I also place some (3) convoy points (CP) as reserve.

When not using the optional Pilots rules, you still get to choose, for example, 2 fighters out of 4 that were randomly drawn by the program. Those that you do not choose go back in the force pool - you might see them again later if you build more fighters.

Using the Pilots rule, the 2 not chosen go into the Reserve Air Pool, where you can ignore them for the rest of the game (or assign them pilots later if you build more pilots).

In two English ports I place a huge portion of The Royal Navy.

In Liverpool I place a lot of cruisers intended to escort the Atlantic convoys and two light carriers that do not have any aircraft yet.

In Portsmouth I place the north sea fleet that has six battleships and a few cruisers. There I also place the rest of the CW transport capability. Note the Liner counter Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. If playing with the liner option then CW can replace a TRS at set up with the liner. This givers CW a very fast transport unit but the liner is unable to transport armoured units.

In Gibraltar I place the infantry corps that has a free set up.

I also place the CW main carrier force here supported by three fast battleships and several strong cruisers. A few reserve CP are also placed in Gibraltar.

This would be a very tempting target for the Italian frogmen but that option is not in play. [:)]

And in Egypt I place the pride of The Royal Navy.

Here I also place the AT (anti-tank) that are the last of the three land units that have a free set up.

In Freetown, Sierra Leone, I place a few cruisers to protect the convoy routes in the south Atlantic versus Italian submarine attacks. The Italians have a submarine available with the annoying ability to make very long cruises. This means that the CW cruiser force will be stretched thin if all convoys are to receive adequate protection.

The four cruiser will not be enough to protect the south Atlantic so if Italy enters the war early this base need reinforcements or the Italian might find undefended convoys. [:(]

And here is my initial placement of the CW convoy points (CP) that I placed at sea shown on the Global Map.

CW needs to transport 15 resources/oil to UK in order to produce for full capacity with the factories in UK. Every CP that I placed have a resource/oil that they are designated to transport to UK. Additional CP are placed in various ports as reserves if Axis should succeed in raiding my convoy routes.

The convoy points also provides sea supply in the area they are located in. So therefore the CP that I have in reserve might be needed for supply purposes as well.

If you're playing with LOS, don't you want to have to have at least a convoy in the Red Sea in case the convoy in the Eastern Med gets killed or aborted?

And I hate to be a busybody (ok, not really), but it costs 8 convoys per resource to ship the Australian resources to Canada, and then a canadian resource to the UK, while it costs 10 CP/resource to ship stuff all the way from the South China sea.

MWiF will allow me to do that instead of just automatically railing where possible, right?

Risky or baiting a trap? The Italians can hunt down the lonely cp in East Med and Egypt is out of supply? Red Sea could need a CP too...but the nice 7 US-Entry hit is a big temptation I guess...

It could be that CW count on their ally France to help out with the supply lines. [:)]

Besides, CW can relocate a CP to the Red sea if needed. Reserves are in Aden.

The longest convoy chain that I use for transporting a resource is eight. From India to CW. India has 2 factories and 4 resources and it is the 2 spare resources there that are used for production in UK. The 2 CPs in Bay of Bengal and South China Sea are used to transport the NEI oil to India.

I know that many transport resources from Australia to Canada but I prefer to avoid the Pacific Ocean with the CW convoy chain. I leave the Pacific for US to handle.

Ahh, I see. But if that's the case; you can save an ENTIRE convoy point by only putting 1 in the Bay of Bengal, and dumping the NEI oil in either Singapore or North Borneo and using it for reorg from there.

Probably not worth it though.

I do not like to put oil in Singapore before I garrison it since partisans can appear there.

I must confess that I never considered saving the oil in North Borneo. It is an alternative for at least a few turns. [:)]

Edit: I appreciate that you are a busybody although I would never use that word. [:)] Comments and suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Edit 2: It is actually two oil that CW receive from NEI. I was careless in my wording previously so it would be 2 CPs that are saved.
