RE: Early Impressions
I do wish in the air tutorial that the starting location was a bit further from the enemy.
Spending some time today reading the manual. It definitely explains a lot of things. Can't wait to get home this evening and apply what I've read.

RE: Early Impressions
How long do the scenarios take, especially the larger ones? Is this something I can knock out a scenario or two in a couple hours one evening, or will the big scenarios take 5-10+ hours to play?
(I know there are a lot of variables like time compression and personal preferences on micromanagement. I just want a rough idea.)

RE: Early Impressions
AAW tutorial took me about two hours.
RE: Early Impressions
The longer, more complex missions with lots of units and action can take 10+ hrs. Smaller ones like Dawn Patrol, more like 20-30 minutes.

Thanks for all the hard work. I love it. Great modern Win32 app (by Wargame standards
). Enjoying the game - tons of information coming in during the game - thank god for pause [:)]

Can you save a game in progress?
RE: Early Impressions
You can save game and there is also a auto save feature for when you forget.
Game times vary depending on the scenario size and scope. Most can be played in a night.

I'm attempting to do the Submarine Tutorial, Phase 1. When I detect a contact it designates it Goblin 2. But when I click on the contact, and hit contact report, the data is empty. So...how did I detect the contact?
RE: Early Impressions
First impressions from just the tutorials as I just downloaded it this afternoon, and for me, this is what I've hoped Harpoon would become and it's finally here. Looks great, and runs quite smoothly on Parallels with Window7 on my MacBook Pro.
Happy camper.

Your sonar people have heard something and categorised it as a sub (Goblin), but so far haven't been able to establish more details.
RE: Early Impressions
The contact report lists emissions (ie. active sensors) detected by the contact. If no emission is listed on the contact report it means you detected the contact with your own sensors (radar, sonar etc.), or it s was auto-detected (e.g. fixed buildings).ORIGINAL: JOhnnyr

How do i deselect all reference points and everything else? Its cumbersome selecting some then deselecting others. When assigning missions. There should be a shortcut key for deselecting everything.
RE: Early Impressions
I may have missed this in the info posted, so bear with me...
What is the start date for the database? I guess I'm asking, what's the earliest scenario I can build? I have a bunch of Jane's and other resources that can be dusted off and put to good use again.
Also glad to hear that so many folks are pleased with the released product. I'm an old Harpoon player going back to the paper versions so this Sim is sounding like something up my alley. And my 60th birthday is coming up soon...[:D]

OK, one more question. In the printed manual, how small is the font? Sadly I am no longer able to read small print like I used to. For a point of reference, I do have the full color manual from "Carriers at War" and find that I can still read it comfortably. If the color manual for Command is similar I'm be ok with it.

+1, I ignored the tutorial and launched a E-2 to get a picture before committing my F-14s. Bad plan [;)]

In the mission editor, at the bottom center, is a listing of all the points. I've found it easier just to delete the ones I don't want there.....

I think 'officially' it's around 1950 for the CWDB, but there are units there that pre-date that.

In the installation in a directory called Manuals, there is a pdf version as well as the ebook. I copied the pdf version to my desktop and if you do the same you can then open it with Acrobat where you can zoom and scroll like any pdf. The font is not that bad, but it is white on a black background which I find a little hard on the eyes. Zoomed in a little it's fine. (My eyes have trouble sometimes with the small fonts on my laptop too).
