17th USAAF BF, 34th Austrailian Bde, and 29th Australian AA unit.

Port Moresby is 12% away from being a lvl 5 AF.. when it does, I will base more bombers forward.

It will be a sold area to fly planes out of, and a pain in Marc's ass.

Combined all of my SAGs/and CVs into three solid striking groups.

This is the majority, if not all of my capital ships and DDs in the area right now.

Main reason each CV taskforce has a lot of CAs is lack of DDs to complete SAGs.

A big chuck are parked at Noumea to deter Marc from surface bombardments, and scorching my planes
on the ground.

For now, I am going to move them back and let Marc forget about them for a few turns, have him
focus on Port Moresby, let his CVs show up to play and re-appear with my three CVs to wreck his
party. Running on fumes, too. I need to get them fuel badly. Their sorties are great (85%)

Going to try and get 5-10k more supply into Lunga.. currently running about 30k to Noumea which will
put it at 40k. From there I'll run in some cargo ships.

Last turn, I had Wildcats on Night Cap. They didn't fly. Is that because I don't have any radar
on Lunga (no baseforce)? If so, I need to get a USAAF, USA, and USN there anyways.

Turn sent to Marc, even though he won't be able to process it tomorrow.

Hornet and co arrive in 15 days, and then I will have four USN fleet CVs online.

For better or worse, we are in the midst of the biggest oil boom in our history. We are closing in on 3M barrels of oil per year, levels not seen since the 1970s. Crazy stuff and it's weird to live in a boom town when the nation as a whole is suffering. Towns in the oil patches of South and West Texas have no hotel rooms available and long lines (30 minutes to an hour) to buy a Coke and a burrito at the local 7-11. Wild stuff.

However, all our football teams suck, so economic prosperity is irrelevant to our collective mood. [;)]

PS - for best ASW coverage, it's my understanding that you need 6 to 8 DDs per TF.

Very interesting observation about the oil boom. We're experiencing it here as well. The royalty
checks would just blow some people's minds.

They didn't find quiet what the though further north into Pratt County, and so the craze is kind of off in town and around here.
We were flooded with oil field folks, and we struggle at work sometimes with employee turnover to the oilfields.. they generally
come back to us, as were steady and always have been.

BTW on the ASW, you're only limited to 4 ships per ASW TF. If I don't have as many ships to go around, I will use smaller ASW
TFs so I can cover more space...

Is that a big no no?

Putting eight DDs in a TF provides good organic ASW protection. Hard for the subs to get through that many escorts. IIRC 6-8 DDs is optimal. The dedicated ASW TFs are limited to 4 ships, but won't help protect capital ships like organic escorts do. Often the truly optimal arrangement is to follow a dedicated ASW TF with a CVTF protected by 6-8 organic DDs. Of course, there are not always enough DDs for that!

In this scenario, I just received nine sub chasers in Noumea that I put in three ASW groups. This will free up a

carriers.

I will move my CVs 3 hexes NW of Lunga to directly hit his CAs that are just sitting in Shortlands and
other islands waiting to hit Lunga in the middle of the night. I have LRCAP from Lunga and 50% CAP
on all CVs - Saratoga, Enterprise, and Wasp. He hasn't set a thing to naval attack in 1/2 dozen turns..
I think this is a chance to strike. Well see.

Marc still has numerous subs in the area, and I have put forth a very strong ASW effort.

He ran in a fast transport last night to his men at Tassafaronga. DDs still cover Lunga from bombardment.

I ideally want him to tangle with my DDs to chew up his opp points so I can hit his cruisers during the day
on my terms.. DDs are nimble and agile enough to not take a beating in a surface action. Especially
Fletchers later on.. which I don't currently have. Those alone are better than CA/CL/BB SAGs.

He has had his CA/CLs sitting there for a few turns, and has been running in fast transports to Guadalcanal for 1/2 dozen turns like I mentioned.

Zero CAP over these forces, and he had nothing from Rabaul on Naval Attack. I figured it was worth the risk.

The situation is as follows:

Marc called me when I was at the grociery store last night and wants to "Lay the king done" and call the match. He claims the remaining ships in that area are so badly damaged they're gone for the duration of the scenario and he doesn't receive anything by CLs through the reinforcement que. He mentioned all of his CVs arrived damaged, and so he has be reparing them from their arrival. Is this as a result of the damage at Coral Sea? I know the sister CVs missed Midway because of damage in the Coral Sea battles...but Gcanal? He said his SAG presence will be minimal now... and that it would be a rather boring game for him. He has offered to go back a few turns ago and start from there, which I was ok with. I really encouraged him to continue to play it out. I would like to think I would if I were him, but I can't honestly say that I would really know.

If we do continue, and I hope we do, do I stay in the area and continue to hit his damaged ships? Where my CVs are, I have over 50% remaining best guess, and I have a ton of fighter coverage from CVs and Lunga. My main goal is to keep his BBs/CAs/CLs away from Lunga and disrupting troops and the airfield.

I want to finish off those 4-5 badly damaged cruisers, if they're not sunk already.

Jeff and I will be beginning a new Guadalcanal scenario soon.

I laid my king down and gave him the victory.
Losing nearly half of my heavy cruisers that early in the game left me with nothing too support the carriers and transports at the same time. I would down to one major operation in a combined effort to reinforce Guadalcanal. One surface action would all likley take out one or two more CA's. Impossible to support transports without proper surface support. Any further attempt to move down the slot would thus be impossible as the CA's would be needed to support the carriers. So the carriers would only sit in Truk for lack of anything to support as nothing would be heading to Guadalcanal for the duration. Guadalcanal would be left to whither on the vine. Only air and submarine actions would be left to carry on the fight. Not very exciting for a scenario that would last for over a year. So I resigned and asked to begin a new Guadalcanal scenario. My apologies for the stupidity I displayed with the lack of coordination and indecision of my forces to allow the game to go fallow so early.
