Interesting point about Vlad.
I had always assumed that it would be sheer madness for Japan to bring Russia into the war.
Then I saw an AAR by Denishe where is opponent did so and the Japanese steamrolled over the Russians.
I presumed it must have been because Denishe never did anything to build them up.
So, just to establish a good practice, I do so even in games against the AI where I know they won't be entering before the historical date.
I set every last Soviet base with engineers present to build forts. I set all LCU to upgrade and take replacements and I upgrade their planes as new frames become available.
I believe all Allied players should develop the good habit of fortifying the SU against an early Japanese adventure.
rader also invaded Russia. His AAR is called 'Taming the Bear' I think. He did very well, but don't get all of it and didn't get AV I don't think. He hadn't even taken all of China before going there!
It's also important to start pilot training in Russia immediately. They have few airframe replacements early, so if Japan god in you want to have decent pilots, but I can't see the Japanese really steamrolling a prepared Russian side. I also start forts and bases building, replacements on, and the territory is very good for defense. They have subs with working TT and a few combat ships, plus a lot of air groups. Japan would almost have to give up on the rest of the map to do well there and that would mean no more oil. Not worth it.
