With the recession the USA is now coming out of, I would imagine that idea might be fairly common. There was an over supply of commercial real estate in many areas for quite a while now. I know a gaming shop in Durham, NC that lets players leave games set up. The only time I saw SPI War in the East & War in the West set up was in the basement of a hobby shop.

I used to play World in Flames in an attic. It's not totally easy, but space can be found for these games. I've also played WiF on the wall, using poster putty.
