Surprising. With the plummeting rig count and the widespread layoffs, I'm surprised that the oil services companies are bringing in new blood from out of state. [&:]
He wasn't "really" out of state, as he was stationed at Minot for the previous 4 years.
They were going through some layoffs, but he already got a supervisor position, so he's fairly safe.
With the influx up there, housing costs are unreal. what would be a $500 apartment here runs $1,400 over there. Fortunately, the companies give out a housing allowance to help.

Any kids? That makes a more "interesting" dynamic in the driller-heavy areas (like Minot). Reminiscent of the gold rush days of yore with prospectors bringing their families (or starting ones) in mining camps.

Guess who just got a gig as a visiting professor of poultry medicine?
On Grenada.
For two weeks.
Paid.
With full accommodations, meals and airfare.
And a trip for Mrs. Chickenboy thrown in too.
Yessirree, Chickenboy-san struttin' around the roost tonight.
ETA: @USS Mike-give me a run down on the type / brand of rum you want I should bring back for you. AW1Steve-I owe you a bottle too.
How are you gonna lecture if you're slurring your speech? [8|]

When in Grenada, do as the American college students do. Isn't that an age-old saying? [;)]

Not yet. I don't think I'm ready to be a grandparent at 46.

Really? That's the most common blood type, if memory suits. Why would they be short on that and not, say, a universal donor like O- first?
