Used your older version of IM, the one that just used SigInt if I remember correctly, and that itself was already very useful. Just downloaded and used your new "V1.0 pre Beta" for the first time, and all I can say is "Wow!". Everything I loved about the legacy version and a lot more. Very, very handy utility. Thank you very much.

The only thing I can think of suggesting (unless this is something already implemented and I'm just missing it) is if there is any way of reporting when an LCU has reached its destination after a move (strat, move or combat), or after a formation or unit is offloaded at its destination port.

Thanks again. [&o]
Thank you! [:)]

I'm afraid I can't do that. Intel Monkey only reads the reports produced each turn, not the actual turn file. Tracker does already do that for LCU's, however. In fact I just did a turn and the Alerts tab in Tracker is must reading each and every turn for me. The 'LCU has reached destination' is a killer feature worth it all by itself.

Later on I will take a crack at reading the Tracker database (Damien and Floyd have invited that) so I can use some info there for additional features in Intel Monkey, but I don't plan to duplicate what tracker does (it already does so many things quite well there is no point to duplicating functions).

I must also say that the pre-beta has been a great leap forward. Also, Intel Monkey has worked flawlessly for me - no errors at all. Well done!

It also fits in quite well with Tracker and Combat Reporter. Each has its own niche.

One area I'd like to improve is perhaps my use of it - I tend to use it as a magnifying glass when I need to do 'deep' research (across many turns) on a particular base (as in prep for an invasion) or an important ship (when/where have I encountered it, is it likely to be active or repairing, etc). More recently, I've also found it quite helpful with compiling stats on AI behavior regarding the number of torpedoes fired at various target types.

Are there any other use cases that you've found particularly helpful?

Hello witpqs,

I'm trying to install your utility but I got an error, here the steps that I'm following:

- run the IntelMonkey.exe file OK
- on the configuration button set the right directory/file locations OK
- on the database maintenance button create all databases OK
- on the get the scenario data button a pop-up shows this error:
"Error: can't set screen mode"

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks [:)]

We saw that error once before.

One of the configuration items you must set is to point Intel Monkey at (a correct version of) the witploadAE.exe utility that is provided with witpAE. If instead you set that configuration item to point at the main witpAE executable file (which is named "War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe") then you will get that error.

So look at your Intel Monkey configuration and change that configuration item.

Ok, I changed the path in the right one (I'm using the last beta patch) but now I got this error:

Error: Unable to find PW Data!

I tryed to copy the following files from main folder to Beta2 folder but no luck:
pwhexe.dat
pwzlink.dat
pwzone.dat

Thanks for the support!

Ah, is that message coming from Intel Monkey or from the game itself (WITP-AE)? Because at this time no PW Data gets read in by Intel Monkey.

I got this message when I click "Get Scenario Data" button, the game runs without any problem.

I'm running a B-MOD scenario (199) if this can be useful, otherwise let me know how I can be helpful [:)]

OK, that configuration item is definitely *not* pointing to the right item. It sounds like it is pointing to the game itself. Here is the file is should be pointing at. Find that file and set the configuration to point at it.

I had to reload Windows 7 the other day and now when I try to run intelmonkey I get this error.

I redownloaded the install file and that did not fix the error.

After I click on the OK button, I get this popup box.

Do I need to have a version of python loaded? I thought that I did not.

No, you do not. The version of Python required is bundled with the application as part of the .exe. The error is certainly saying it can't find python, but it shouldn't be looking there.

Where did you install Intel Monkey?

It is in the tools folder. Note that I have my games on a second SSD and so the original intel monkey was still there. It did not work, giving the errors shown
above. I then downloaded the installation file again and deleted the original and reinstalled the intel monkey program. I still got the same errors as above.
I installed the latest version of Python and everything worked as before.

Here is a picture of the directory

As another note, when I first installed this version of Intel Monkey, I did have a Python version installed. I wonder
if everyone else did also.

No, definitely not. Some extremely non-technical people have installed this. And it was tested without any Python installed.

BTW, before you reloaded Win7, you did have Python installed then too? Which version?

One thought I am having is this is 'the real' error, and the next error is saying that Python simply could not find the procedure named in this message.

Doing an entire Python installation as you did might have installed this dependency and thereby fixed the problem indirectly.

Questions: After you reinstalled Win7, did it get all of the current updates? What installation media did you use (for example if a CD/DVD how old was it)? Any other information about the reinstall might be helpful.

It could be the updates. I have not done any yet, I was waiting for this weekend. I will remove Python before I do them to see if that is what is happening. I hate doing the 1,000,000 updates.

But I just uninstalled Python, rebooted the computer and Intel Monkey still works, so I will not be able to check it that way. I am sorry, but most likely it is the lack of updates, I just installed my new SSD and Windows Wednesday afternoon and just did not get to them yet.

No need to be sorry, we're just trying to figure out what it is so more tools in our kit! BTW uninstalling Python would not undo any system dependencies that got updated. It would be good to know if that's it because there might be a way I can force inclusion of such at this end, but it might not be practical for system stuff that is out of date (staying up with patches is always good because of security if nothing else).

I am building the installer and exe on Windows 7 which works fine for Win7 and Win10, but I have read that if I build on Win10 I will have to explicitly include certain things to make sure it also runs on Win7. And that for systems that are up to date with patches.

So it looks like "api-ms-win-crt-runtime-l1-1-0.dll" is part of Microsoft's C++ redistributable runtime library. Certainly if it is missing the Python installation process will install it which explains why you installing Python allowed IM to work.

If you do start over - not asking you to because it is a lot of work - it would be interesting to learn if getting outstanding Windows updates done solves the problem.

It would also be interesting to know if installing WITP-AE solves the problem. I know that requires various Microsoft runtime libraries and I am uncertain if they get installed by the installation process if missing.

As I get farther down the road with IM I might be able to improve the installation process to where it too (as Python does) checks for a missing runtime and installs it. I might opt for some alternative because Microsoft prefers that you call their website to get the current version rather than include a version (which might become outdated) in your installers. Right now I include all files for Intel Monkey in the installer and do *not* go out to the Internet at all. Maybe I could generate a message with instructions or something? I'll give it more thought when I get to it.
