RE: Red Thunder II 1988 - NATO

Post by MikeJ19 »

One day later and the situation continues to improve for NATO. A lot of the WP units are in the red. There are still a lot of units, but they are definitely hurting. In about half of their attacks on the 27th, the WP advanced.

In the air war, the WP air force is doing less and less. As the WP moved on the 27th, my interdiction attacks kept happening. These efforts weaken the actual units and effect supply.

The WP that had been fighting in Berlin are making their way to the front. Most of them are SE of Hannover.

Gaps remain significant in the WP line. The units in the red highlighted area are mostly unsupplied and in the red. To their East are some bridging and AH units – nothing that could stop a powerful attack.

In the South, the push on Munich has been stopped and most of the Czech units in it are also unsupplied.

I’m itching to launch a counter punch, but will give it another day. Time is on my side and I would like to see some more of the WP follow-on units engaged in the battle before I launch III Corps.

So, the main focus is on tweaking my defence line, with some attacks to keep the WP off balance.

In the air war, it seems like I have a big advantage in AS, so I will move some of those units to Int missions. I will also use my rockets to target airfields again.

Before I start moving forces around for NATO moves, I thought it would be a good time to step back and look at the bigger picture and decide what I want to achieve next.

Onwards to Moscow for NATO then, As i recall we ( BR I Corps ) hoped to be able to hold the WP at the weser river and hope that there supplies ran out intel seemed to suggest they had 2/3 weeks then would have to halt.
The battle of Medjerda is almost forgotten, but was fought against highly disciplined German troops and blasted a route straight to Tunis it was a perfect infiltration battle and should be remembered as the best fought British battle of the war.

Good day Ian,

The Weser is certainly a good obstacle to defend along. I'm planning to hit back earlier...

Not sure about getting to Moscow, but I do want to recapture all of Berlin before peace comes!

The planners have come up with some options for the commander. Here is the first one.

Finally, here is the third one. Now it will be up to the commander to decide.

Having some fun, I went to the history books (Okay wikipedia) to find an Operation name to use for this upcoming battle. I decided on one from WWII that was a Canadian led Operation

I see you making the French 3rd Corps the theater reserve and I concur
but I'm wondering now if you're going to move it more toward the center
of gravity of the action. To be able to reach anywhere in the minimum
time needed to get there and exert a force. There's so many units between
the French and the north they couldn't possibly get there in time to make
a difference. I'm just wondering.

Larry,

I moved it a little to the North, but not too much. Once 1 UK Corps launches, I will move the French farther North. Good point and thanks for the comment...

Have a good day,
Mike

My moves for the day are done. I'm intrigued with how the WP is going to move. Hopefully, they do not do something that makes me call off or postpone Veritable.

Can you use any of the ships in that carrier group to support the troops on the ground?
