Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. East Africa.

1. The CW is/will using/use the "Queens" to pick up and move Commonwealth troops from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and elsewhere to protect their interests in East Africa and Asia.

2. An Australian (white print) MIL is deployed to Aden to prevent/discourage any Japanese move, however remote the chance is, to take Aden and cut RN access to the Red Sea. The Commonwealth is taking defense of their critical bases (e.g., Aden, Gibraltar, Malta, Egypt/Suez) seriously. Also, as you shall see in the production summary, the CW is also not neglecting their defense of Great Britain either.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. North and Central China.

1. Umezu's HQ-I still splitting time commanding IJA's Army Groups Northern and Central China.

2. Terauchi and his HQ-I returns next turn (i.e., Mar/Apr) and the IJA will waste no time getting him back to China and in command of one of these two Army Groups pronto. However, this will require coordination with the IJN in order to get him transported.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. South China.

1. Yamamoto's 1st Amphibious Invasion Army Group continues to make gains in southern China.

2. Yamamoto has accomplished his primary objective of securing the southern coast of China. Japanese HQ has gently reminded him that his primary mission if one of invasion and that he's not to take losses or be out of position to support amphibious operations in two or so years. Or possibly sooner if any opportunity against the Soviets arise.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. Partisans.

1. With the (large) exception of China, the only chance of partisans appearing are against the allies. And one does.

2. Partisan uprising in India (8% chance) happens and prevents the transport of non-oil Indian RP to a British factory.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. US Entry.

1. The US chooses to add their chit to the Germany/Italy entry pool. They draw a 2. These 3 chits are needed for the Soviets to claim the Baltic States and demand Bessarabia.

2. The US chooses not to select any additional entry options.

The Script. Selective Service Act. Until chosen, the only land unit a neutral US may build is 1 infantry or cavalry class unit per turn. Once chosen, a neutral US may build 2 infantry class or 1 other type land unit per turn. This option may be "selected jointly" with any entry option of level 13 or higher. If selected, the tension level of the joint option is increased by 2.

22. Gear Up Production. Until chosen, a neutral US may not build amphibious units.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. French Production.

1. Turn out the CW "shorted" the French in trade by 1 non-oil resource. During resource lending last turn they rolled a 5 meaning that they should have given the French 1 oil and 5 non-oil resources. Instead they only gave them 1 oil and 4 non-oil resources. The CW will make up that difference if they give them less than the maximum this turn.

The Script (modified). During every resource lending phase in which no axis units are inside of Metropolitan France, the CW will roll to determine the number of resources (if any) that it gives to France. No matter the amount given (if any), France will never lend lease any BP's back to the CW. Any lending from the CW to France is to be considered as a bribe to keep France in the war. A 1D10 will be rolled to determine the number of resources given,
0 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4,
1 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4 + 1 non-oil,
2 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4 + 2 non-oil,
3 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4 + 3 non-oil,
4 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4 + 4 non-oil,
5 -> 1 oil if saved oil < 4 + 5 non-oil,
6-9 -> nothing.

Turn 3. Jan/Feb 1940. Production.

1. CW production over the first three turns has included significant emphasis on the defense of Great Britain with builds of a mot (turn 1), mech (turn 2) and HQ-I (turn 3). Defense of Great Britain followed by, in order, defense of: (1) Suez/Egypt, (2) Gibraltar, (3) Malta, (4) India and (5) Singapore are a priority.

2. CW production was down this turn because of their trade with France and the loss of a RP in India from partisans.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Resource Lending.

1. CW to France. 1D10 = 0. Since France has 4 saved oil this means that the CW gives nothing this turn to France. However, because the CW shorted France last turn 1 non-oil RP, they have to make it up to them this turn. So, the CW gives France 1 non-oil RP.

2. No other non-mandatory trade agreements this turn.

The Script. CW to France Resource Lending

Why is Kweilin open? A mountain city is a very hard nut to crack, and also is the key to Chinese supply in that area.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

The Nationalist were on the verge of being flanked in the south giving the Japanese near unfettered access into the Kweichow valley. They decided to pull back and block Japan's access.

General Courtenay, you might be interested to know that apparently the Nationalist felt the same way you did and have reoccupied Kweilin. [;)]

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. This Turn at a Glance.

1. The axis won the initiative and elected to move first.

2. Germany in position to invade Norway pivoted away, invaded and conquered the low countries (Holland and Belgium).

3. Germany was in position to also push into the French lines (western Belgium) but storms moved in over Western Europe (and the arctic) late in the turn shutting down any thoughts by the Wehrmacht of doing such.

4. In China, Japan managed to capture Changsha which was (too) lightly defended.

5. The turn consisted of 5 impulses (3 axis & 2 allied).

6. The initiative track is now even and allies winning ties.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Game Event Diary To-Date.

Note that impulse "99" is used to capture critical events that occur at the end of the turn. If (as) appropriate, impulse "0" will be used to capture critical events that occur at the beginning of the turn.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #1. Germany Surprises Belgium.

1. OKH at the urging of OKW decided with fine weather over Western Europe to immediately pivot from invading Norway to attacking the Low Countries.

2. Germany starts with a surprise declaring of war against Belgium.

3. The planned invasion of Norway is cancelled, just postponed (for the immediate future).

4. Attacking the West while the French are still building up their army was considered higher priority than going into Norway at this time.

Turn 4. Mar/Apr 1940. Axis #1. Wehrmacht Land Combat (1/2).

1. OKW supported by OKL aggressively pushes forward with their plan to capture all but the western edge of Belgium before the French and British have a chance to fully react.

2. The first attack is on Brussels which falls without loss of flips to the Germans.
