The Italian INF Div invades Marseilles. I include the notional as otherwise it would be automatic. A CA adds shore bombardment.

Germany attacks Lodz, using engineers and Amsterdam.

Japan attacks the CAV at Taiyuan and the Chinese 3rd INF. Do the Chinese wish to fly ground support? There are no Japanese fighters to intercept.

Yes, the Chinese FTR2 provides defensive ground support, and it lands in the hex it flew from. Thank you.

You might not have been aware from the pictures (and I'd forgot too) but there is an AA gun that could fire at the FTR and negate the ground support. Do you still want to fly the mission? By doing so it would guarantee disorganising the AA.

Ok. Then the fighter stands down. The Chinese air arm is to valuable to risk getting the planes paint damaged by shrapnel.

Germany sends an He-111 in support of the attack on Amsterdam. It lands in Remagen forest hex. Italy uses the NAV from La Spezia to support the Marseilles effort. It lands back at La Spezia.

Final combat odds.

First up, the Italian effort. Would Les Francais prefer a Blitz or Assault?

Fascinating, Captains.

In my newest game as Axis, the Germans went immediately across the lower Rhine into the Low Countries.

The French response? Frantically putting ZoCs on every hex along the Riviera, in case Italy...

The Italian infantry storm into the port. The French defenders, still in shock at rumours of a naval defeat, are slow to react and the port is captured (10 rolled). Elements of the French navy are more prepared and the battleship Dunquerke plus several cruisers manage to raise steam and weigh anchor before the Italian infantry reach their moorings. Does the French admiral wish to sail them out individually or in one or more task forces?

The Dunquerke with four heavy cruisers puts into the Western Med'. The Italian task force is slow to react (Let's face it, no one really expected the attack to succeed) and the French ships escape to Bordeaux.

Meanwhile, back in Marseilles, the Captains of three cruisers scuttle their ships rather than let them fall into enemy hands. However, the Italians manage to take the battleship Strasbourg as a prize.

Action moves to Amsterdam. The choice has to be Assault as there are no retreat options.

The Dutch put up a valiant defence, causing substantial casualties and disorganisation to the attacking forces.

Next up Lodz, which also has to be assault due to lack of retreat paths.

The attack goes in without a hitch.

Whilst the newspapers focus on Panzers and Lightning War, events in Taiyuan hearken back to an earlier age as men on horseback (albeit some supported by motorised troops) fight for control of the city. Weight of numbers tells and the Japanese cavalry retake the city. With world focus on events in the Med', the US takes no notice (9 rolled).

Japan rebases two fighters from Kaifeng to Hangchow.

Germany rebases the two fighters in East Prussia to NE and NW of Magdeburg and the He-111 in Poland to west of Frankfurt.

Reorganisation

von Rundstedt does AA, MOT and 2 x 7-4 INF
von Bock does 9-4, 6-3 and MECH

Balbo reorganises a TRANS.

Back to the Allies.

The Soviet people in North-Eastern Rumania has been suppressed, harassed, and discriminated against for ages. We, the Soviet People, have asked for this practice to end. And since we are a peaceful, and patient nation we have let this situation to continue for far to long. But we are also a proud people, and we can not let our countrymen in Rumania suffer any longer. Therefore we demand that the situation be solved at once. And since we can no longer trust the Rumanian Government to act, we therefore demand that the area in question, Bessarabia, be turned over to the Soviet Union so that people of all nations are treated equally, and fairly. Refuse this fair request at your own peril. Our people demand action, and justice, for the Soviet population in Bessarabia now.
