OCTOBER 24, 1941

The Axis make another futile attempt to capture Ivanov. Rain elsewhere.

Forces and Casualties.

Production and Deployment Queue. German oil is low. With the UK on the brink perhaps I should stop raiding with my surface fleet.

Advancements. I am hoping to have German Assault and Heavy Armour at Tech 43 by May 42.

Snow blankets all zones on the Eastern Front. Nothing screenshot worthy happens.

The luck of the Kriegsmarine finally runs out as every carrier in the UK Fleet finds a target.

Otherwise continuing snow on the Russian Front.

No action this turn except in the BOA where another 10 MS are sent to the bottom of the sea. Oddly I could have sworn that there were only 29 MS last turn, but this turn (after losing 10) there are 26. I will have to keep an eye on this.

The USA is oddly light on merchants.

You can probably trash their merchant fleet, too, once it starts trying to ship stuff to the Sovs.

Your opponent has seemingly completely ignored the BoA. I bet he didn't even bulk up on shipyards. The USA is rich, but 99 merchants isn't gonna cut it nor will a grand total of 18 allied escorts.

Only thing I don't understand is why you are not pressing more in the south?

Attack where the enemy is weak.

Well I did move the Italians South and conquered all the way to Rostov. I left most of my German Armour in the North hoping that YueJin would makes a mistake and I would be able to surround and/or destroy several of his tank corps. I did get a couple, but not as many as I was hoping for.

Things are finally starting to go YueJin's way in the BOA. After molesting the main German battle fleet a couple turns ago, this turn he sunk his first U-Boat. I am pretty sure it was a 5 strength one too. He currently has 22 British and 129 US MS.

The Russians made 4 attacks in the snow, sustaining 14 hits to the German 3. I expect to see far more attacks in January and February.

JANUARY 2, 1942

The Russians make 14 Attacks and even retreat a unit or two. Several Us Fleets steam East. Will be interesting to see where they make landfall.

A dozen or so more Soviet Attacks result in the Russians gaining a couple hexes while taking 38 step losses to the Axis 24.

The Americans (and I mean every single land, naval and air unit) continue to steam due East in the general direction of Gibraltar.

JANUARY 30, 1942

11 more Russian Attacks in the blizzard and a couple more hexes gained. Losses are 31 Soviet to 17 Axis. i have no doubt that the Russians are near 50% Experience (or at least with even average luck they should be).

The American forces split. Some make port in Gibraltar, while the remainder debark in England.

On my second PBEM game with a friend as the Allies. In our first game I had way more MM's for the UK and the USA but less than 200 and got my butt kicked as the UK spent the last two years short on oil so I was basically attacking with the USA only. I would be very surprised if the Allies win the game you are playing.

Also just think how many more Axis losses there would be if the Siberian reinforcements all came on with the winter specialization.

I am curious as to whether the Axis declared Vichy in your game.

In my game the US has 129 MS, so it can trade oil to the UK, at least for now. But UK PPs are probably only about 90 or so. This would be the 50 in the UK plus 10 from MS = 60 X 1.5 (UK multiple) = 90. Personally I think that is the bigger problem for the UK than lack of oil. But I could be wrong.

Yes, if the Siberians had the winter specialization Axis losses would be higher. But this is only 5 units, so losses would not be that much higher. I am in favour of this change, but I don't think by itself it would solve the game inbalance problem.

FEBRUARY 13, 1942

The good news is that the entire British Merchant Marine Fleet has been sunk. British production has therefore been reduced to approximately 75 per turn. This is less than Italy.

The bad news is that for the 3rd consecutive turn blizzard envelops most of the Russian Front. As a consequence most Axis units have been reduced to 45% to 55% effectiveness. The Russians make 12 more attacks and capture a couple more hexes. I will soon need to abandon Voronezh or risk encirclement there. Soviet losses are severe though (29 to 10).

The weather turns to snow in Russia, yea! Still I abandon Voronezh. Russian losses are approximately triple those of the Axis (41 to 12).

With heavy rains in the North Atlantic the Kriegsmarine sallies forth again. Though it could be that the US isn't even sending oil or resources to the UK.

A significant Allied Fleet, with CVs and transports, continues to be parked in Gibraltar.

Only 1 Attack giving the Russians a bloody nose. Most active German Infantry (ie not garrisons) have been upgraded to 43 Tech. Unfortunately Heavy Armour is still lagging at Tech 42.

A sortie by the RN with, intelligence reports, transports sends the axis scrambling to defend as many ports as possible. Meanwhile the Canadians, once again with 3 large corps, advance towards Tobruk

Otherwise it is a very quiet turn.
