Note that in this example the unit's icon background color does not match the color from the color selection table. This is where the future enhancement would be beneficial.
I must be obtuse. I have no idea why you believe that the background color doesn't match the color selection table. Or the repercussions of why that's important. I am of course aware that the colors matter for the purposes of internal support ( force, formation, or independent ). Is there another reason?

Yes, there is a reason.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOh. I get it. Good catch. I had no idea about the Force Editor. I don't remember ever using it.

Also, I think I may have come up with a way to simulate the color picker staying open. Just take a screenshot of the color circle and use that as the image on a label and then when the user clicks on it I'll get the system to supply me with the color of the pixel the user clicked on. Somehow. I may have to write a function that will do that for us. Oh, wait.....the user won't be able to increase/decrease the brightness of the color he/she chose. D'oh. I'll give it some more thought.

And I'll have to input the TOAW master color image to have something to show to the user to choose from OR switch the image in the master image to the one that the user chooses. Something along those lines. Thank you for explaining about the Force Editor. Keep these good ideas coming. You're worth your weight in platinum. I'm assuming it's still way higher than gold. I'll google it to make sure. It's like a good neighbor gives you a calf from his herd back in about 1930. I guess you had to be there to understand what a boon that would be.

So um........hey you guys. I'm thinking that the recolor app needs to have a splash screen to give the user something to look at while the rest of the program loads and comes to a ready to use state, usually a handful of seconds. I'm thinking of including a progress bar to indicate how much longer it will take before it's "ready". I've picked out a possible splash screen picture:
Image

The thing about it is that it's an AI generated image showing [given the prompt show me a picture of ] "a man tying his shoes". Notice anything odd about his arms and left leg?

I'm open to other suggestions for a splash screen. Post your candidate pictures here. The most popular one is the one I'll use in the app.

You could get crazy with AI generated art like this but it was just an attempt.

Again, you've found another good one. Thanks.

I ran into some problems this past couple of days. There was a really bad rainstorm that passed through Tucson and the electrical juice turned off again. I lost some work but not as much as last time. And I did something stupid with my IDE Eclipse and fucked something up badly it ceased to perform properly so I uninstalled Eclipse and reinstalled it and it seems to be working just fine now. I also downloaded the IDE Liclipse ( Eclipse Light ) just incase it was a better IDE and I found them to be similar.

I also downloaded the very latest Java package available ( 17.0 ) just to make sure I have all the latest features Java might have to help out with development. [ That caused my WITP-AE related application "Tracker" to stop working. Turns out Tracker is 32-bit and the new Java package I just downloaded and installed is 64-bit. D'oh. ]

Last time I compiled and ran my Java app ( "Recolor" ) it passed through the compiler successfully but the JVM ( java virtual machine ) couldn't find my "main() function and exited. I'm in the process of investigating why that happened....since main() is the first function listed in my first class.

I'm slowly figuring out how to do stuff and actually making progress. The switch from Python to Java seems to be a good idea so far. There are at least three different GUI framework packages to use ( Swing, Qt, and AWT, etc. ) and I'm torn between them about which one to use. I've used Swing in the past and as I remember I was underwhelmed. Qt is the newest so I'm looking into using that. AWT was the package developers used before Swing was deployed and it wouldn't surprise me to find out that they have listed AWT in the deprecated category. I know for a fact that there's no support for it any longer.

I don't have a sophisticated SCM ( Source Control Manager )...so what I've been doing is making a zipped up copy of the "current" files and storing the zip file(s) somewhere safe. I've been encouraged to do something a little more sophisticated so I'm planning on using Git because there are rave reviews by it's users, simple to use, well tested, and best of all it's free. What could possibly go wrong?

Larry,

You can setup your own personal account on Git, and you can also make a private repo (you can share this private repo with whoever you like and give them permissions) then you can use the GitHub Desktop app to easily push changes to your repo. Its easy (or at least pretty easy to me) to use and push and pull code up to your repo and its free.

I am working on a project and finally convinced the developer to use git a few years ago and he was at first skeptical, but eventually found out the reason why I pushed for it. I don't do any coding for this project just data and art work and push up my changes when I am ready.

You can use get for text files, art files, and more importantly code files and project in particular.

I recommend Git.

In the business world I have heard of Spring a lot, but not really all that familiar with it.
