Ok, thank you for proving my point that we need a toggle for auto victory then.

Dosn't prove anything at all apart from the fact that my inbox is devoid of these mythical 4:1 games [:D]

... so you want to wait until someone loses their game to an autovictory, then have it sent to your inbox so you can stare at it, and do nothing to recover it and allow them to keep playing?

I'll take the toggle, thanks.

LOL anyone who loses a game by autovictory to the AI should start over. (Unless he is a real glutton for punishment) And if I gain my 4-1 3-1 2-1 (depending on side and year) I'll laugh when the other side suggests we continue.
The victory conditions are very clear. In order to win WITP no matter which side you are playing you need 4-1 in 43, 3-1 in 44 or 2-1 in 45/46. Thats the only way to win. Japan can get a draw by surviving till end of game (out of turns) if niether player has 2-1 when turns run out. There are no other victory conditions. Players can of course surrender (quit) whenever they feel like it. When a player begins a PBEM saying "I'll fight to the end" he means "I'll fight till the game is over" Well the game is over depending on year and point ratio.
Joel has already said he will check about removing/changing AV conditions so this debate can end.

Agreed. I'll stop if frag stops. [:D]

Which part of "I'll fix it" don't you understand? Still don't have any saves. If you are so worried about it, why don't you send me your save and get a jump on the long list of folks who manage to get a 4:1 [:)]

Toggle requires artwork, programming, etc.

Editor requires nothing. Edit you solution, takes 2 minutes.

Frag, I am afraid you are completely mc'donaldized. Customers payed for the game quite a lot of money so why they should even bother with the editor. For programmers, probably, to make this feature optional is not the problem at all. After all the score is compared every turn and the only thing they will have to do is to make the condition evaluate to FALSE everytime. Everything depends on their good will now.

Editor is for those very (and I mean very) interested, with some additional free time to spare. Other thing is that editor as it is does not look like 'friendly' tool, it is very crude to say at least (not that I could make better one [8|] not knowing the game implementation solutions). I looked into the editor few times and I gave up - and I am not computer illiterate. I could read the manual but my philosophy is that software should help the user, not make him fight.

So you're gonna fix every person this happens to? What about the 3:1 we may not want against the AI, or the 2:1? Its not just about the 4:1. How hard is it to get a 2:1? Some of us would like to be able to invade Japan no matter what the scores look like. It would be much better if we just got a toggle so that EVERYONE who wants to, can disable it. Not have to go through an editor to do it, not have to email their game to someone else to fix it.

What is it with you being so against this? Nearly everyone else is on the side of "toggle". And despite the fact that the devs have said they would look into it, you still post negative things about the idea.

Also, some of us actually like to think ahead, and ask the devs to give us an option for disabling the autovictory BEFORE it destroys our games, thats why no one has sent you their saves yet. Don't hold your breath.

Who's against it?

Look at the wish list, count how many good ideas are on it. Lots better ideas there then this one frankly that have been there a lot longer.

This game was *not* tested without victory cutoff rules. I have already seen the game break when the unit count gets too low therefore adding this toggle just means you will crash. It makes zero sense adding something that just ensures the game breaks.

Go ask Apollo how much fun he is having right now with his scenario which is exactly what you are asking to be done. He crashes every turn ... lots of fun there.

this topic really boggles me

okay, if I understand it, if you achieve a 4-1 combat victory in 1943, 3-1 in 1944 or a 2-1 in 1945, the game ends...

what exactly is the problem ? Even though Japan starts getting a mass of infantry in late 43, 44, and the us gets an insane amount of everything, by 1943, if your ahead by at least 4-1 ratio, what is left ? You have obviously beaten the snot out of your enemy...

Perhaps this is that old "but... I never got to use the kewl stuff in the late war" syndrome ?

Automatic Victory = a rule

Attacking the Soviet Union = a rule

having X amount of Carrier trained air groups on your carriers is a rule, does this make sense ? :) I mean, you win... pat yourself on the back, look at what was done, and try and improve your stradegy for the next game.

personally, I play on very hard and it can be just that at times, also the "ironman" saves, where you only save when your done for the day/night, never going back to previous saves.

*shrugs*
very confusing topic
