I looked at the animation, and made a note of each shell hitting.

So far, with a restart and 1.30, the only Magazine blowup I had was at Pearl on 7th when BB PA blew up.

I've not yet had any large surface warship actions but plenty of air bombing raids and so far only that ship bombed has had a magazine explodes..

Maybe the way some PC's process the math may affect things?

Boilers can blow, but not like that. That was a magazine explosion

Even bigger problem is the incessant 2000 yrd engagements between battleships. Gimme a break. There was one or two instances of this point blank range battleship involved brawls in the whole war in every ocean. Be nice if only the small fry closed to these ranges at anything approaching the frequency we see here.

I think this may be due to the fact that the PLAYERS play much more aggressively than would have happened when real lives were at stake. This makes for more engagements, which makes for an increased chance in closer ranges, increased chance for hits which in turn increases the number of ships that go down to magazine explosions.

I would be curious to see a chart of the actual number of surface combats that occurred during the Pacific War vs. the number of surface combats that players of WitP create during the course of the war.

Now if my PBEMers would send me turns while I battle this flu. Canada sucks sometimes

I just recovered from nasty thing too (lot of time to play WitP[:D]). You may find this one useful - "Sinus & Allergy extra strength", Shoppers Drugmart. It really helps with symptoms (no running water from nose and eyes, normal sleep at night etc), although I wouldn’t risk beating yellow lights while taking it.

1% might be fine, 2% probably right on, but I like my idea better as it is more complicated([:D])but achieves more.

That's how it would work. First the hit has to penetrate any armor. Then, as is done now, each penetrating hit is checked to see if it hits the magazine. I've just suggested that instead of automatically exploding, another check roll is made depending on the ship type.

I just lost the John D. Ford (I think that's the name), flush deck class DD. It was hit by 3 torpedoes from Nells. Two of them triggered magazine explosions. [X(]

In my games vs the AI, about half my sunk combat ships suffered magazine explosions. I tend to have pretty low ship losses, because I don't send them into harms way very often. The only time they sink is when I get suprised or when they have a magazine explosion.

Just my opinion, but I think magazine explosions happen a little too often. Definitely not a game breaker, though.

Alright this does it [:@]
I just had 5 magazine explosions in the same surface combat. Two on the same ship.
The combat turns were long and lots of hits were made but this just does not look right.
I lost a CL to a 6 inch magazine hit. The Allies lost a CA to a magazine hit from a 24'' torpedo and two magazine hits to 5'' shells on a DD and another CA to a 8'' shell hit from another CA.

This battle was no where near the size of Jutland nor did I have incompotent British rules reguarding the use of powder in my munitions [;)]
