Lumbering Helens fly and actually hit the Americans. Might be the first time they have ever hit anything...

And the last time for those particular pilots...

I may try to defend on Shikoku. My basic thought is if he diverts his air force to hitting them, then they aren't bombing my engine and plane factories. Have to watch out for his BBs, but some CD guns and mines might help there.

Egads, do I need planes...still making 35 a day, but need so many more. I doubt I have a full strength squadron on Honshu right now.

Jack and Tony production ok, Frank slowed due to loss of engine reserve. Attack planes now in serious shortages.

Why do you make the Tony? Isn't the armament a very anemic 7mm/.30 cal. MG? Like the first Hurricanes?

Two centerline cannons on the Ki-100 model.

M-M is right.

A great plane, SR1. Perhaps my best Army bomber killer right now. The trick is avoiding the sweeps...

Cranked thru the turn. The KB has to retreat, sentai's are a mess. I thought about sending the surface ships in for combat, but I will run away. Singers will most likely fall today.

Planning another operation on Honshu today, I think this maybe a complete surprise for the Allies. Let us hope so.

Pray for Japan, we need it!

The Oscar IV has the twin CL cannons, but simply lacks the staying power to close on the bombers, at least for me. It maybe due to the fact that Oscars got the worst pilots, but I blame the flimsy design.

Hey, M-M:

The Hyuga can definitely only take float planes. Not sure about the line, but probably only take floats too.

I agree. I'm thinking I'm going to phase out the Oscar-IV, and just switch to the Ki-100 entirely. Even for kamikazes.

Don't be so hasty...calculate out your pools and account for all the lost production. It does make an excellent low altitude CAP plane.

You don't want to run out! Kind of like me.[8D]

I've got plenty, and still have my factories. But I've had them fighting in the same places at times, or in the same place at different times, experimenting with settings.

The Oscars are OK, but many more of them die than the Tonys. Doesn't matter whether it's bombers or enemy fighters. We're talking about Durability 23 vs. 30, here. Otherwise, they're comparable planes. The Tony has 2 MGs as well... and is less maneuverable, but it sure feels like the Oscar's advantage on maneuver (+50%) isn't mattering at all. The Tony is more maneuvable than all the Allied planes already. I think I like the durability more.

Edit: I actually have this Tracker open right now. Losses for Oscar: 238 (127 A, 20 G, 91 Ops). Losses for Tony: 94 (69 A, 6 G, 19 Ops).

Availability date 43/5 on the Oscar, and 43/7 on the Tony, so a slight difference there. Producing the same number overall. 8 Sentai of each right now. The difference is that the Tony has been in Asia only, while the Oscar has seen the Pacific.

May 10th, 1944

No night bombing.

Three IJN Destroyers lost in night fight near Oita. Trashed by CL and several Fletchers.

During the day Allies lose 10 more planes than Japan; and bomb and sweep lots of places. The planned Japanese counterstrike doesn't materialize -- at least in the morning the Allied base was socked in by bad weather.

Over in the far west, the Allied tank juggernaut on the jungle road attacks again a mixed force of infantry, artillery, tanks and AA. The AA arrived yesterday and really did a job, shooting down over 20 planes and saving the day.

Singers holds out thru another shock attack. Tiemanj just drives his troops hard, relentless attacks every day. Their fatigue must be sky high. Oh, to be able to drop in a fresh division here, but sadly don't have any![X(]

A look at the intrepid defenders. The 11th Div is crack, with 93 experience.and the final 1/3 of it is marching to the sound of battle.

The 2nd Guards Division will arrive tomorrow along with some 15cm artillery guns.

Some of the artillery listed here are big, bad boys. 24cm and 30cm monsters.

The 4th Tank has simply been shredded. Type 95 Light Tanks don't work so well anymore.[:)]

Without the AA, we could never hold.

Japanese combined arms goodness!

It seems you and I both have developed some sort of Napoleonic obsession with artillery.

To tell the truth it doesn't really feel right. To strip Manchuko like this. I do have artillery there, but it is on the beaches protecting versus an Allied invasion.[X(]

Without artillery, especially the pieces 15cm and larger, there is no way to stall Allied tanks.
