Yeah, but with a land path across a strait I figure it must be a shock-attack required crossing. Trouble is the F6 key hex side display shows white because that hex side can be crossed by both LCU and ships. I'm just not sure if that is over-writing the purple. I decided to be safe and have the troops arrive in combat mode, which they should all do tomorrow.ORIGINAL: BBfanboy
Trying to recall from my last game when I had troops make the same crossing (and also to Okayama). IIRC it is not treated as a river crossing because it is a strait and because you are crossing on a bridge. Should be the same at Shimonoseki.ORIGINAL: witpqs
Home Islands west.
One more Imperial unit, the 84th Division. Tomorrow a large Allied force will cross from Takamatsu on Shikoku into Fukuyama on Honshu. The game display does not tell if it is treated as a river crossing with required shock attack, but I figure it must be. Also tomorrow the remaining units assigned to the reduction of Oita will arrive there to commence operations.

Tsu port is fully repaired, two days sooner than I figured. It will be needed to as we are going to bring in the vast majority of the available Commonwealth units over those docks.

RE: 1945 July 01
Well it was a shock attack into Fukuyama but it looks like you got a good die roll. The Depot Division would have been created when you first landed on the Home Islands so the experience should be really low on them, but I am not sure about the other two divisions in the list. I don't think the - for experience fully explains your success. Maybe it was your 5th Marine Division walking on water ...
No matter how bad a situation is, you can always make it worse. - Chris Hadfield : An Astronaut's Guide To Life On Earth
RE: 1945 July 01
I don't recall the numbers, but I had to leave a division behind at Takamatsu for security (with Okayama across the strait) and I chose the lowest experience division. It was mid 60s! All the divisions are very good to excellent, the armor units are all good to excellent, and the arty is at least good. In fact the mortar Bns are equipped with 4.2 inch mortars, pretty heavy duty. The Marine division is, or course, the most powerful formation with all the extra line riflemen, etc. the USMC sticks into their units, yielding higher AV than the USA divisions.ORIGINAL: BBfanboy

I'm guessing lack of experience and lack of supply to fill out units with all the goodies like artillery that they need to really make an impact.

Disclaimer: sometimes I do not "recall correctly"
What is the first sign of old age? I don't remember!
The 4.2" (four deuce) is a very nice support weapon. They really brighten the night with their flares - as long as the parachute opens. When the chute does not open, it is a good way to start a fire.
The later Marine units have a lot more machine guns such as the M1917 and the lighter M1919.

But I really like its bigger sister, the Ma Deuce.

RE: 1945 July 03
Home Islands east.
A good number of night air strikes on our fleet and small combatants making night runs at us, but no damage. Some base units have partially unloaded at Tsu and others will unload tonight and tomorrow. Many more support units and combat units are loading at Hangchow and Taihoku for entry through Tsu.
Many Imperial units are seen heading east on Honshu (look at both east and west maps for that). Where exactly resistance lines will be made is unclear, but I do assume that Tokyo will be essentially the last bastion. We have Tsu over stacked and with more units coming in that will get worse. Disruption is adequately recovered so most combat units will head out to Gifu as planned. One division and one motorized division will remain at Tsu, the first as security and the motorized division to conserve itself. After Gifu is cleared, the Indian 19th Motorized Division will race up the road to the NE of Gifu to cut Honshu in two.
I brought a whole bunch of fighter groups into Tsu but got too enthusiastic and greatly over stacked the airfield in terms of number of groups. Better get Gifu quickly!

It would be really something to read the Japanese take on this period of the war. The walls seem to be closing in everywhere and it must be nearly impossible to deploy any kind of sensible defense. Kudos to your opponent for fighting it out to the bitter end!
