...to clear the path for the BIG boys!!!....
5 enemy BB, 2 CA and 3 CLs, heavily escorted approached!
Our mine fields started to get their life tribute...scoring a couple of hits...
but then the responsability was only up to the shoulders of our DDs... They had to slow them down waiting for Pallister to show up....as you remember Pallister was commanded to arrive on the second night at Sadogashima with a TF composed of the latest british Cruiser technology....

at 1,000 he simply crossed the enemy column...forming a perfect T....and fired his torpedoes....

Greyjoy in Court: "Your honor, my Corsair, I mean client, is innocent. He saw the purse on the side of the road as he was passing by on his Scoodra. He was just going to return it to this kind Betty, er, woman, here, when the KB, oops, uh, carabinieri, stopped him before he could CAP... [face palm] Say, could we have a one-hour launch recess?" [Muttering "Sadogashima" continuously to himself as he leaves the courtroom with his bewidered client, then opening up his laptop in the nearby coffee shop, further confusing his client as he sees a depiction of the Hawaiian Islands on a hexagonal grid.]

RE: Angels over Sadogashima
...[:D]...i'm back
...while Burhans' DDs were fighting to delay the enemy BBs, Pallister's Task Force was steaming at flank speed towards Sadogashima....The British Admiral already knew from the radio what was waiting for him: the enemy outgunned and outnumbered his ships...but he also knew that the safety of Sadogashima and probably of the whole allied effort on the northern coast of Japan was depending on him...on his sailors...
He knew how many lifes were sacrified for that damned operation...Dust n' Bones the "suits" in Washington had named it...Dust n Bones...yeah...but the bones were from the 30,000 american and british sailors sunk with the crippled allied CV fleet and the dust came from the funeral pires that the 10th Army men were making on the beaches of Aikita with the thousands of bodies that every day the waves were bringing on the shore...
When Pallister arrived he found his way blocked by the japanese light TF that was guarding the left side of its bigger "brother"...
Pallister didn't lose too much time with them....arrived at max speed...fired some shots but went further... The japanese BBs were only 40 miles from the shores of Sadogashima...few more minutes and they could have been able to fire directly on the trenches and on the airport....

RE: Angels over Sadogashima
.......The enemy BBs were already in firing position to plaster Sadogashima...
Palliser didn't think twice...he put all his ships into a double line and placed himself between the 360cm guns of the japanese BBs and the island...
It was like a dance...the two opposed TFs were moving in two double lines facing each other (the japs in the typical firing position)...
Despite the sudden manouvre, the japs were fast and immediately re-locate their aiming...
The first 360 cm bullet immediately exploded aboard the Kenia...a couple of hits and the brand new ship's magazines created a massive explosion that made trumble the whole allied formation...
Palliser's ships started to fire furiously to avenge their sister but their guns were simply too little to create any concern to the enemy's giants...
The battle raged for half an hour...but Palliser knew he didn't stand any chance...his formation had been immediately broken by the precise and deadly japanese heavy fire...
He almost cried when he saw Jonhston, the commander of DD Owen, moving out of the line formation and, despite the orders, charge the Hyuga that was slaughtering at close range the NewFoundland...
However...at 2:30 A.M. Palliser knew he had no choice but retire...2 of his ships have already sunk and 4 more would be sinking in the next few hours...
He gave the signal...and retired...

RE: Angels over Sadogashima
At this point there was nothing left between the BBs and the beaches...
But still some brave commanders of some ASW TFs moved in and closed the range... everything to save the base... and a DE even managed to score a torpedo hit[8D]
