Seriously, France, Sweden, and Ukraine were all better teams and England top the group. If we really, really stink against Italy - we are a sure thing for the semis.

And will someone please tell me the point of the idiots watching the goal-line?

No idea - but we are owed one for two years ago (and anyway the Ukrainian was offside).

I can't see any point at all with that one. But some experts claim that it makes the players somewhat more honest around the penalty area.

Milner disappointing, Young, Welbeck ditto. Did Walcott actually touch the ball after he came on?

Has anyone thought about this? Did the French want to avoid the Italians and Ze Germans? [:D]

Now England will have to deal with these two football-winnning-machines if they want to get to the final... Oh well, one step, then another

Dear all, final reminder to get your Q/F scores in before the Thursday kick-off.

You are predicting score at 90 or 120 minutes (if extra time is required) - so a draw is possible.

Czech Rep vs Portugal

Germany vs Greece

Spain vs France

England vs Italy

I think it was good for England to avoid Spain. I do not think France wanted to avoid Italy since Spain is the alternative. I think most "experts" would rate Spain as the best team in this tournament.

I know. My guts tell me Italy and Germany are rather dangerous these days. I suspect Spain is going to implode (à la Holland) with some stabbing in the back (Barcelona and Real Madrid players that is).

France to pass [8D]

I agree. Let's face it, we're England - it's going to be tough whoever we play, and our record against the "big boys" in tournament football is pretty dire. On balance of course you would prefer Italy to Spain, but that does not mean Italy should be treated with anything other than the utmost respect.

Let's just hope we don't embarrass ourselves.

It's a dead cert England will beat Italy, probably after being totally outplayed. Pure footie physics, in major tournaments England and Germany drift inevitably towards each other like a dying supergiant star and a black hole. Unfortunately the Germans get to be the black hole. [:(]

The only thing England has going for them (and I admit - it's a biggy) is that they can put the ball in the back of the net. That's what it is all about. Beautiful football, loads of possesion, and heaps of pressure get you nowhere if you cannot score.
