BB Pennsylvania, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage – finally some hits! The Bettys fight their way through heavy rain and CAP. BB Pennsylvania is listed as sunk on the Intel screen but no allied float planes are reported lost, so I bet she’s still afloat. Multiple IJN subs are moving in to try and cover the most likely withdrawal routes, to Noumea or Fiji. I figure it will take a few more sub launched torpedoes to sink her, but with heavy damage that should put her out of action for a while and divert a few ASW capable ships to escort her to safety.

Japanese Assault reduces fortifications to 2 – the attackers are a bit short on supply so won’t attack again tomorrow. Lucky for me the IJA supply line from Wyndham is so good, it should only take a few days to replenish. It is the dry season at this time of year in the NT, so the “road” as it was back then would be trafficable, but in real life there would be no way that the IJA could move all the supplies and fuel that they need to support this force so far from Wyndham. Let’s not let those sort of details get in the way of a good game though!

In other news, back on land, this is the situation in China from a few days ago.
From left to right:

HQ 23rd Army with 19th and 51st Divs is approaching Paoshan. 20th Div remains at the cross roads to help block the 17 Chinese units moving NW of Kunming. 4 x Tank Regts are moving along the mountain road to Chengtu while another 6 that will form the 1/2/3 Tank Divs are moving towards Chungking from the SW.

HQ CEA and HQ 13th Army have just crossed the river west of Chungking, with 8th, 9th, 14th, 17th and 15th/A Divs. 15th/B and C are on the road to the south plus 8th Armd Car Coy to protect the supply line. 13th Army will move NW to capture Chengtu while HQ 20th Army and 10th, 11th, 12th Divs move across the river to get ready to move into Chungking.

HQ 11th Army has 3rd, 6th and 34th Divs with it, with 13th Div to join it once the withdrawing Chinese units move past it.

5th, 53rd and 54th Bdes are from 12th Army but separated from their HQ. They will push back the Chinese units in this sector which is allowing 110th and 35th Divs to move north.

HQ NCAA and HQ 12th Army are in the Mountain hex with 27th, 32nd, 35th/A, 35th/B and 110th/A Divs. I have a new idea here, to push the current defenders of the Mountain hex back across the river, but then leave HQ 12th Army and 27th Div in a block position, while HQ NCAA and the reserve Divs (32, 35, 110) move to flank it.

HQ MGA has 26th Div with it. They will try a deliberate attack once the Mountain hex is clear and pursue if possible. If they can move forward HQ MGA will replace 12th Army as the blocking force to try and get all of 12th Army's forward units to recombine NE of Chungking.

HQ 1st Army has 36th and 37th Divs with it. It will take weeks, but I am moving the 3rd Bde and 37th Divs to join 41st Div and try to surround the Chinese units in this sector. The aim of these moves is to try and free up HQ 1st Army, 2x Divs, 2x Bdes and the 15th Tank Regt to join the main force at Chungking.

BB Pennsylvania, Torpedo hits 2, heavy damage – finally some hits! The Bettys fight their way through heavy rain and CAP. BB Pennsylvania is listed as sunk on the Intel screen but no allied float planes are reported lost, so I bet she’s still afloat. Multiple IJN subs are moving in to try and cover the most likely withdrawal routes, to Noumea or Fiji. In other news, back on land, this is the situation in China from a few days ago.
From left to right:

HQ 23rd Army with 19th and 51st Divs is approaching Paoshan. 20th Div remains at the cross roads to help block the 17 Chinese units moving NW of Kunming. 4 x Tank Regts are moving along the mountain road to Chengtu while another 6 that will form the 1/2/3 Tank Divs are moving towards Chungking from the SW.

HQ CEA and HQ 13th Army have just crossed the river west of Chungking, with 8th, 9th, 14th, 17th and 15th/A Divs. 15th/B and C are on the road to the south plus 8th Armd Car Coy to protect the supply line. 13th Army will move NW to capture Chengtu while HQ 20th Army and 10th, 11th, 12th Divs move across the river to get ready to move into Chungking.

HQ 11th Army has 3rd, 6th and 34th Divs with it, with 13th Div to join it once the withdrawing Chinese units move past it.

5th, 53rd and 54th Bdes are from 12th Army but separated from their HQ. They will push back the Chinese units in this sector which is allowing 110th and 35th Divs to move north.

HQ NCAA and HQ 12th Army are in the Mountain hex with 27th, 32nd, 35th/A, 35th/B and 110th/A Divs. I have a new idea here, to push the current defenders of the Mountain hex back across the river, but then leave HQ 12th Army and 27th Div in a block position, while HQ NCAA and the reserve Divs (32, 35, 110) move to flank it.

HQ MGA has 26th Div with it. They will try a deliberate attack once the Mountain hex is clear and pursue if possible. If they can move forward HQ MGA will replace 12th Army as the blocking force to try and get all of 12th Army's forward units to recombine NE of Chungking.

HQ 1st Army has 36th and 37th Divs with it. It will take weeks, but I am moving the 3rd Bde and 37th Divs to join 41st Div and try to surround the Chinese units in this sector. The aim of these moves is to try and free up HQ 1st Army, 2x Divs, 2x Bdes and the 15th Tank Regt to join the main force at Chungking.

I still love your maps. I imagine they take a while to create, but keep 'em coming as often as you deem necessary, or time permits.[8D]

Aircraft Ki-44-IIa Tojo advances R&D – to 7/42, so next month. With 6x size 30 research factories and the engine bonus Tojo is advancing 12% per day. I will change all but one of these research factories to the Tojo IIc in about 6-7 days and let one produce the IIa. I don’t want to stuff the timing of this or I will end up producing 180x Tojo IIa a month which I don’t want.
My pre-war forecast was to get the Tojo IIa by about 29 Jun 42, but that didn’t factor in the engine bonus which has saved about another 2 weeks.
I am planning to skip the Tojo IIb as it doesn’t have armour either, to go straight to the IIc which has armour. I’ve estimated a non-engine bonus arrival date of about 20 Feb 43 for the IIc. If I have the engine bonus for the whole time that would halve the research time to get it back to about 29 Oct 42.

THEATRE ORDERS - BURMA & NE INDIA
FROM: Imperial General HQ
TO: HQ Southern Army (General Terauchi)

SITUATION
ENEMY
British, British Indian Army and Australian Imperial Force land combat units have been identified, supported by Royal Air Force and USAAF ground and air combat units.
The enemy have established forward defensive positions at Chittagong and Lashio.
At Chittagong, the number of units has recently decreased, however 7th Australian Division is still identified there. 6th Australian Division may have been withdrawn.
At Lashio, 3x Brigades from British 70th Division have been identified with one artillery regiment in support.
In rear areas, construction of new airfields at previously undeveloped towns along the railway indicates that the enemy has placed some force at each base along their lines of communication.
Enemy movement is detected forward from Comilla to Chittagong and west from Lashio towards the Imphal area.
Allied CV and BB task forces have been spotted lurking near Madras with irregular moves east towards Diamond Harbour. Previous bombardments of Diamond Harbour and Calcutta seem to have resulted in withdrawal of allied forces to protect against direct invasion of those bases.

FRIENDLY
The main combat power subordinate to HQ Southern Army includes HQ 25th Army with 3x Divisions and 15th Army with 5x Divisions.
HQ 3rd Air Division is providing air support with 1st Hikodan (Air Brigade) at Katha, 7th Hikodan at Magwe and 15th Hikodan in depth at Chiang Mai. JAAF AF Battalions and Companies are providing local support in forward areas.
Rangoon has been transferred to the IJN to control as a port and logistics support hub. 124th Infantry Regiment detached from 30th Division is providing the local garrison. HQ 21st Air Flotilla is at Rangoon, commanding long range patrols over the Bay of Bengal, a Betty naval strike unit and local combat air patrols.
The Royal Thai Army have allocated its 2nd and 4th Infantry Divisions plus their Cavalry Division to provide rear area security across 9 different bases.

MISSION
Advance to and capture the Dacca – Darjeeling line, destroying as many allied forces as possible in the process, in order to establish a secure area to support future operations into India.

EXECUTION
25th Army will advance on the Arakan Front from Chittagong to Dacca. Due to the open terrain, 3rd Air Division will concentrate the majority of LRCAP over 25th Army. IJN BB and CA task forces will continue to provide naval gunfire support to the Battle of Chittagong
15th Army will continue the advance on the Central Front from Lashio to capture and establish defensive positions in the rough terrain bases of Lashio, Silchar, Kohima and Dimapur with the intent of cutting off supplies to the allied positions in the Arakan and far NE Assam (around Ledo). With some protection afforded by the rough terrain, LRCAP over 15th Army will be limited.

ADMIN & LOGISTICS
The supply situation in Burma is stable, but the supply line is tenuous.
The main supply route currently consists 2x 6 ship Aden supply convoys under manual control, escorted by 2x Ansyu PB each. They are moving supply from Japan to Rangoon, stopping on the return to collect resources from Singapore to take back to Japan.
I haven’t calculated it exactly, but as they carry 30k supply each and they take a few weeks to travel one way, this results in a relative trickle of supply into Rangoon of somewhere from 1-2k supply per day.

WEATHER: I need to check the manual again to refresh on in game dates and effects, but I just checked the Tourism Assam website and it says:
“Assam in Monsoon - July till September (26°C - 32°C) Assam receives abundant rainfall in the monsoon months. The monsoon season starts off with the month of June and lasts till October. Try to avoid visiting Assam in this season, as heavy showers often result in landslides.”


COMMAND & SIGNALS
HQ Southern Army is 98% prepared for Chittagong but located at Magwe, within command radius range.
HQ 25th Army is 100% prepared for and located at Chittagong.
HQ 15th Army is 76% prepared for and located at Imphal.

HQ 23rd Army is and will remain under command China Expeditionary Army, but the allies should be perceiving it as a threat to NE India as it has potential to march over the mountains to join the Burma Theatre. This is a future possibility, but not until after Chungking is captured.

Elsewhere:
HQ 16th Army is 100% prepared for and approaching Darwin.
HQ 14th Army is 100% prepared for Noumea at Lunga in the Solomons. This operation is now questionable so could be cancelled.

With this sort of raw AV ratio I won’t be attacking here until some troops can return from Chungking. I also don’t want to move 41st Div off this road or this Chinese force could try to move NE to recapture Lanchow and Sining.
If this Chinese force was in the Mountain Hex too, I probably wouldn’t have been able to punch a hole through there. Now I will have to leave 1x Division in the Mountain Hex to stop this force moving SE and cutting my supply line as the advance continues. That could be a job for 12th Army while NCAA and its Area Army reserve Divisions move forward.

Units destroyed 6 – oops! I did not want or expect this Chinese force to surrender as they had two hex sides to withdraw across. They must just be too far from friendly bases and/or too beaten up to want to continue to fight. I will buy them back and send them forward again, but might keep them behind fortifications next time and just use them for defensive plays. Defending units: I need to expect at least level 3+ fortifications here, so I won’t attack in a hurry. Allied naval and air bombardment is making this an unpleasant place to be for 25th Army, so I need to try and win control of both the skies and the sea again before pushing too hard on land.
I am confident in the abilities of the IJN to be able to destroy the RN force spotted a few days ago, but in doing so it could take heavy losses from land based RN torpedo bombers like the Albacore. IJN carriers are all in Japan at the moment, but I could put Zeros and Oscars on LRCAP duty over IJN BB and CA task forces and cross my fingers.

SS I-17 in ARD Dublon ARD at Truk – only two damaged subs at Truk at the moment, so slowly getting them all repaired and back in action. The ARD at Truk is repairing SEAF and 4th Fleet subs with major float damage, but any with major engine damage need to return to Japan.
G3M2 Nell from 1st Ku K-1 has spotted an Allied PG at 55,41 (Chittagong) a Coastal Cargo class xAKL is reported HIT – this sighting seemed to spark the Nell/Zero raid on Chittagong.

There are 290k resources at Port Hedland + 66k at Corunna Downs.
The 100 Resource Centres at Corunna Downs have been captured intact, but it would burn a lot of fuel to move it all back in smallish ship convoys. Port Hedland is only size 2(3), so to extract the iron ore efficiently it would also need supply to build the port up. I think I will just leave it all here and save the time and mouse clicks for other areas.

In other news, the 3rd SNLF Coy have commandeered an iron ore train as they didn't fancy walking all the way back to Port Hedland with only two water bottles per man.
