Hi EarlyDoors,
What was your starting position at the start of 42? When do you think that the USSR was defeated and where? Thanks. Do you have a pic of early 1942?

In the early days, Thunder had done a good job of keeping US and USSR mobiisation low (below 40%) but that aside, Uk had taken out a Tank in France, secured North and East Africa and landed in Norway.
USSR had stemmed Barbarossa with a couple of Panzers taken out. The Arctic convoy was secure and Finland had been diplo'd not to invade. Turkey was threatening but all seemed secure.
The US fleet tried to pre-empt Pearl Harbour to the angst of Congress. PH never came. For 6 months US mobilisation crept up by 2% per turn rather than 5%. At the time I was fine with this because the oil embargo was hurting Japan but in retrospect it delayed US bombing campaign and d-day by 6 months.

I didn't realise German S&I was at 3 and it was first, Luftwaffe/ Lvl 3 Panzers in 42 that seized Stalingrad/Voronezh/ and that other Alternate Capital ?Kubyshev?
When western allies tried to respond, Italy was choked with units and I never gained air superiority against lvl 3 AA and lvl 5 jets by 1944.
USSR held out until summer 1945, in fact there were on 43%NM when they surrenderred.

China held but lost its mpp routes through Kunming. Japan swept west into India and although USA (fleet intact) followed, re-taking all the SE Asia convoy routes, they could never destroy them in time.

The earliest images I have are from 1943

Wow - from near bottom to #2 in a few months. I expect my fall to be as dramatic as I'm in the rarified air with HamburgerMeat and Fafnir. A bit like Icarus here.

Last game with EarlyDoors was a blast. I think in retrospect Norway invasion and Balkans were too much of a distraction for Allies and more iron in France/Benelux may have turned the tide. And Russian front was very very close and pivotal. Pacific was eventful but more of a side show in the end.

New ELO game started:

arikogut (axis) vs petedalby (allies)

Axis resigned March 1940. Good start with Poland in 2 and a good invasion of Belgium but Japan slow out of Manchuria. Rail links cut - many Japanese units lost out of supply.

Rematch started. Same sides.

Looking for a game in this tournament if not too late to start. I am an experienced SC2 player of many years, though relatively new to this latest version. i can play either side, and prefer no diplo on majors - otherwise good to play, a few turns a day in the beginning, but once things get heavy probably one turn a day. For those of you who were in the old Panzerliga, I'm the old "fritz"...i recognize a few similar names.

Welcome to ELO. It's not really a tournament, more of a rating system, so you are never too late to start.

Just post a challenge stating that you would like to play an ELO game. The assumption is that you want to play the 1939 campaign, unless you state otherwise. When the game starts either you or your opponent must post a game start notice in this thread. Check prior posts for the proper format.

Most people use the following house rules:
o No diplomacy on majors
o No diplomacy on Bulgaria
o No DOW on USSR until 1941
But you can deduct or add more rules if you want.

I started with AH also. Tactics II, 1965. Couldn't find an opponent so played alone for a couple years, haha. Then moved on to Stalingrad, AK, and Waterloo.

New ELO game(s) started:

redrum68 (Axis) vs ruskicanuk (Allies)
redrum68 (Allies) vs ruskicanuk (Axis)

Games ended:

redrum68 (Axis) defeats ruskicanuk (Allies)
redrum68 (Allies) defeats ruskicanuk (Axis)

ruskicanuk resigned both games in early 1940. Both were relatively even but my opponent missed garrisoning Manchuria so USSR had 60%+ mobilization already which most likely spelled doom. GG and thanks for the games as I learned a lot even though they ended up being a bit short.
