NorPac: The IJN scores a merchant kill with a sub in the frigid waters off the Aleutians. Umnak is fortified, defended, and now boasts a strip. (air not club)

CenPac: Reports on IJN TFs have been coming from Frigate shoals to Palmyra for several days with no clear spots. The 32nd Infantry division is at sea destined for their jump off point in SoPac.

SoPac: Here is where the Pacific war is at its most tense. The last stages of getting a toe hold on the Solomons chain is in its final stage. I am trying to get coastal guns and marines ashore at Kira Kira. Fast battleships and the Hornet are very vulnerable and will be more so for 48 hours while I attempt a landing in front of IJN destroyers holed up around Tulagi. I may pull them if they are still undetected tomorrow and allow the destroyers to screen as best they can.

SwPac: Port Moresby goes to AF6 and the first raid by Mitchells surprise IJN merchants at anchor. The results are most encouraging. P38s return to Rabaul on the 7th and go 11 and 0 making up for the prior days exchange. Note: Manus has no airfield.

Burma: There is a summer offensive in the works. Most all units are in their forward jumping off points. Chindits are on the flanks. We plan a large air raid today, deep in Thailand. The hope is to bleed off some of his bombers from China, where over 300 strike daily.

Burma: I have ordered P38s to sweep anywhere I can spot IJAF concentrations. I have run into new Imperial Japanese aircraft which are far superior than the early Zekes encountered before. I have not even seen Tojo's for some time. J2M2, NIK1J, and KI61 are at the fore front now. Results are mixed, with the P38s maintaining a slightly better kill ratio. As long as I can get the big boys in and out with minimal fighter interference I'm ok with it. Rangoon hit hard today but it is a large complex and will need much more "working over". I have good news as another bomb group from the states has arrived in Africa along with several fresh fighter squadrons.
