With possible reports reaching the enemy Commander Gen Alexander ( 15th Army Group ) of the imminent arrival of more Axis reinforcements the Allies launch large scale assaults across the front hoping to break our lines before they reach the front.
The Allies attack in three sectors of our defence positions, on The Tyrrhenian Sea Coast a two pronged attack aimed at pushing our forces away from the banks of The Volturno River, the central attacks objective is the town of Isernia a key logistics supply base for both Armee's and the third against the Byferno river line defenders in the hope of flanking our troops defending the town of Termoli.
At Grazzanise Bradley's US II Corps supported by US VI Corps launch a general assault with over 65 000 men and Tank support, Von Arnim's Panzer troops halt the Allied push forcing Bradley to withdraw and regroup losing several Tanks .
The US General orders a second attempt against the defenders but this assault fails and the enemy is unable to capture vital bridges into the town or force our troops out of there defensive positions along the river itself, both attacks cost the enemy dearly in KIA's and armour losses.

At the same time Von Arnim fights to hold the coast road Gen Balck's men supported by units from 10 Armee are attacked by three Allied Corps Brit XIII, Brit X and Dawley's US VI Corps, Balck is facing almost 110 000 men, 16 hundred Artillery pieces and nearly 400 Tanks as the enemy launch an assault on three fronts and come close to pushing LXXXX ArmeeKorps troops off there Mountain fortifications.
Having almost succeeded in forcing a breakthrough Dawley attacks again hoping our troops finally give ground but we troops hold firm and maintain control of the Mountain passes.
Allied losses are high and there armour proves ineffective against Balcks entrenched Inf
After moving back to there own lines to regroup once again, McCreery's Brit X Corps makes one last effort and launches an Infantry attack, lacking armour support the attack is easily held by our troops.
Despite Balck's successful defence in this sector his ArmeeKorps defensive fortifications have been severely weakened.

Backed by over 60 000 men from three Corps ( Brit XIII, Can 1st and Pol II ) lead by Dempsey the enemy launches an armoured assault of nearly 700 Tanks against units from three German ArmeeKorps defending the town of Isernia a key supply and rail hub for the German Army, as Dempsey's armour presses forward forcing back battered Inf Balck's 29th Pz Gren Div rushes from the reserve and launches a counterattack driving them back. The timely arrival of the PanzerGrenadiers restoring our line.
Adriatic Sector
Here on The Adriatic the picture is no different with both Hube and Feuerstein's ArmeeKorps coming under heavy attack fortunately for both Generals there units are heavily entrenched behind The Byferno River, the weather is not good and the ground is muddy and rough ideal for defence, with fortified Inf controlling roads and bridges across the river leaving the enemy to attack along narrow corridors the Commanders remain confident, still attrition is wearing down the numbers of troops in the field, exhaustion amongst units is also having its effect.
McCreey's Brit X Corps supported by Brit V and US VI launch another armoured attack on the river defences, from ideal positions German firepower rains down on enemy troops attempting to cross a number of bridges, despite Allied superiority in numbers there is no room to manoeuvre there armour for flanking attacks and McCreeys orders a halt to the attack.

After regrouping Brit X and V Corps launch a second frontal assault, the bulk of Allied armour being held back McCreery hoping sheer wait of Inf numbers can dislodge Axis troops, Feuerstein rushes his reserves forward along with two Howitzer Battalions, likewise Hube orders forward the 71st Werfer Regiment, the exposed US lead Inf Battalion is decimated by rocket fire and the main advance falters forcing the Infantry columns pull back , III Regt / 10th Pz Div Panthers and Panzer IVh launch a counterattack catching the enemy tanks out in exposed terrain with little Inf support, they are forced to withdraw.
In the town of Termoli Erich Straube ( LXXIV ArmeeKorps ) had been grimly holding on, 90th Pz Gren Div had been battered almost into submission, the unit was down to under 15 AFV's every other element was also well under 40% some under 20% the situation was dire if the reinforcements didn't arrive soon the Division would disintegrate, Montgomery had been concentrating as much as his Army he could commit on direct assaults hoping sheer numbers would exhaust the defenders out of the town, it was decided the unit could not leave the line yet but rotated out to the town and into the positions defended by 16th Panzer, Hube agreed to the redeployment and both units swapped positions under cover of darkness, no sooner had the 90th settled in some 10 miles South of the town elements of 3 Allied Corps struck, Dewley's US VI and Montgomery's XIII and X fortunately for Straube and the 90th the 71st Werfer which was already engaged in a battle close by was able to turn its attention against the advancing US 45th Inf, supported by Hube's two Inf Div's the enemy was repulsed with heavy losses.
With the first assault only just halted by our troops, the respite is short as the enemy launches a second attack, McCreery along with the US VI and Brit XIII orders a fresh assault on our line, this time there would be no support from the 71st Werfer as the unit was fully engaged just to the South fighting against a huge enemy armoured assault directed against Feuerstein's Infantry, Hube's 242nd Inf was down to 2500 men and the 90th PzGren had 10 AFV's battle ready, The Allies attack on two fronts trying to force crossings on both flanks of the 90th as well a directly attacking the centre, US 101st airborne fail on the right flank and US 45th Inf once again takes heavy losses in the centre, Axis forces hold fast and the Allied assault stalls.

Reports coming of large Tank and Mech formations backed by Inf moving to take up defensive positions along the Southern bank of The Yashkulsky River. Axis Armoured forces are in no shape for a major battle until the units can receive replacements.

Bombing raids over Germany this week were low with heavy rains falling across the continent perhaps the reason so little enemy action, only two cities being attacked and little damage done to industrialist facilities.
This gave some respite to our fighter units from the daily action over European skies.

In France the Allied activity is also low, the massive rain storm sweeping across Europe restricting operations to attacking a small number of air bases North and South of Paris, also like last week most Axis convoys remained in Port although there were some supply runs to The Channel Islands which the enemy attempted to attack however reports coming say all convoys arrived to the Port of call with minimal loss.
Bypassing the bad weather in Western Europe a small Allied air flight emanating from The Mediterranean Theatre was able to fly across The Balkans and conduct recon operations in Southern Germany, Vienna the target of the enemy flight, no damage was done to the city.

In Southern Italy steady rain continues to fall along the front line but Allied air activity has not been impeded for the most part and heavy attacks on our ground forces and Command and Control units were targeted, also Allied air units conducted more Recon operations against our air bases and ground installations in Rome and along the coast as far as Arezzo, despite the enemies superior air numbers Luftwaffe units put up solid opposition, with the enemy suffering a number of losses.

Heartening for Kurt Zeitzler and his Command as his staff report that the East Front reinforcements have reached the front and deploying immediately to forward positions, this is welcome news for the troops fighting on the front line, in other developments Generalleutnant Fridolin von Senger und Etterlin ( 14th Armee ) released Ludwig Kuebler's LXXXXVII ArmeeKorps to control of 10th Armee.
Kuebler's Korps takes control of the newly arrived 9th Panzer Div and 243rd and 334th Inf Divisions, with orders to defend Isernia in the central sector of the line.
Generalleutnant Erwin Jollasse's 9th Panzer Div arrives at railyards just South of Isernia
At Grazzanise Bradley's US II Corps supported by the newly arrived Brit XII launches a direct assault against Von Arnim's 5th Pz Armee troops, attacking on two fronts both Allied units fail to break through our line, SS Pz Grenadier troops counterattacking forcing Bradley to call a halt and withdraw.
Gen Bradley regroups and orders a second attack against the town but again is unable to break the line despite a huge artillery barrage to try soften our fortified defences, our troops are able to control the vital bridges across the river.
Both assault a costly failure for the Allies

The Matese mountains straddle two regions (Molise and Campania) and four provinces (Campobasso, Isernia, Benevento and Caserta). The highest peak, on the boundary between Molise and Campania, is the Monte Miletto, at 2,050 m, followed by La Gallinola (1,923 m a.s.l.), Monte Mutria (1,823 m a.s.l.), Monte Monaco di Gioia and Monte Maio.
While the Allies had managed to cross the Volturno River Southwest of Campobassa and push Axis Forces from one of the Mountain peaks the Axis line holds.
Three German ArmeeKorps control the remaining peaks guarding the air base of Capua and the rail and roads links to the Port of Gaeta, with Axis units heavily fortified in there Mountaintop redoubts and along the river itself the Allies have made little gains.
An Assault by three Allied Corps with support from Montgomery's 1st Can Armoured Brigade results in stalemate as Feuerstein and Balck's troops repulse the attackers, positioned in secure locations high above Axis artillery rains down on Dawley's forward columns while the Brit XIII Corps are unable to take control of the major bridges across the Volturno River.

After pulling back to reorganise there infantry and armoured units for a second attempt to dislodge our troops from there dug in positions, Dawley orders a preliminary artillery bombardment followed by the Infantry attempting to cross the main bridges at Caserta, facing heavy fire and there armour unable to any impact the advances stalls.
US VI Corps and Brit XIII Corps reposition there forces allowing Gen Gioslard De Monsabert's II FF Corps a chance to launch two armoured attacks later in the week, both fail.
An Allied tank attempts to cross the Volturno River at Caserta during the latest assault

On the Isernia front Hube's Pz Korps comes under attack from elements of four Allied ( Can 1st, Brit XII , Brit XIII and PO II ) Corps but enemy has been unable to breach The biferno River line so far, backed by supporting units from both German Armee's Hube is able contain Gen Crerar's opening assault.
Crerar attacks again only to be repulsed a second time and forced to withdraw behind his defence lines.
North of Hube the Allies try to push through against Feuerstein's Infantry, Dawley again hoping that sheer wait of numbers will force a river crossing but enemy is bogged down on the opposite side its armour having trouble in the rough terrain.
