Midway now has a size 3 port, which will come in handy for any damaged ships. Rather worryingly there are now only 7 men at Ise - they must have eaten the others...

At Pearl Harbor, both my Yorktown class CVs resized their airgroups. Christmas Island is now 34/0/0.

TK Madrono was sunk just East of Geelong by I-159. I have Catalinas on patrol at Melbourne so am surprised I have not seen the sub. I have moved GVT-14's Beauforts to Devonport to thicken up the patrol and an MSW has sailed from Melbourne, with 5 more despatched from Sydney. 3,500 tons of oil arrived at Whyalla from Perth. 30,000 tons of fuel arrived at Brisbane from CONUS. 600 tons of supplies have arrived at Wyndham and Derby on the North coast of Australia, while the last of I Aus Corps is unloading at Darwin. The Dutch sub K-XV completed repairs at Perth and sailed to patrol off Lingayen on Luzon.

The screenie shows today's air victory - more to follow in the next post...

SS Spearfish reported an attack by Vals near Manila, then SS Pike was hit by more. Pike has damage 69/80/0 and has disbanded at Manila.

Manila, Mandalay and Singapore were bombed. Mike lost a Mary to flak over Manila, but the big battle over Singapore took all the headlines. 22 Nells, 55 Bettys, 9 Nates, 22 Lilys and 65 Sallys squared off against 15 each of P-39Ds, P-40Bs and P-40Es. 4 Nells were destroyed along with 11 Bettys, with a further 2 damaged. The IJAAF contingent lost 3 Lilys and 7 Sallys with 2 more damaged. I lost 3 P-39s (7 damaged), 1 P-40E (5 damaged), and 8 P40Bs were damaged. The Tracker screenie at the foot of the post shows how the kills were shared out amongst the participating squadrons (the last column in the inserts shows the kills). I have evacuated all flyable fighters - 21 damaged planes remain. My raid on Rabaul achieved nothing, but IJA 33rd Div suffered 21/1 casualties with IJA 55th Div taking 9/1 more.

Hollyhock damage: 47/18/0. Rover damage 48/55/0. Supplies: Singapore 79,172 tons; Manila 29,320 tons. K-XVIII sailed from Soerabaya to patrol Saigon, while HMS Trusty left Batavia to lay mines just East of Saigon at Soc Trang.

1,800 tons of supplies arrived at Palembang, while RAF 488 NZ Sqn upgraded to the Kittyhawk I.

In China Canton airfield is now size 6.

Wuchow and Honan were bombed.

6,000 tons of oil and 14,000 tons of resources reached Vladivostock. The screenie shows the current state of Vladivostock's defences.

Townsville now has a size 5 port.

USS Greenling, on her approach to Kwajalein, has reported many Kate sightings and a couple of attacks, so it looks like at least some of Mike's CVs are still there. Why? USS Argonaut, now with system damage of 13, will do one last minelaying trip, to Pago Pago this time, before heading for repairs at San Diego. 4 DMs left Pearl to mine Midway. They need repairs but I want my CVs and escorts to have sole use of the yards for now. 2,000 tons of supplies arrived at Lahaina from San Francisco. Christmas Island is now 13/0/0.

The air transport CVL Kittyhawk finally arrived back at San Francisco from her trip to SWPAC. Hornet has repaired and her task force has started reassembly.

810th EAB is unloading on Efate. Once they are ashore I'll do another screenie showing all forces present as promised some pages back.

K VII was ready at Melbourne and is cruising to Perth on the first leg of her journey back to the warzone. APD Gregory and DMS Long joined the Townsville force. There are more Jap fighters at Rabaul, so todays raid, which downed a Pete, will be the last for now. RAAF 18Sqn flew their Beauforts forward to Darwin from Alice Springs. 2,000 tons of supplies arrived at Darwin from Kendari, while another 2,000 from Capetown arrived at the now well-stocked Perth.

I had to format my PC and when I reloaded I took the opportunity to upgrade Tracker to v1.5. I had a huge on map leader swap out for some reason, as well as leaders assigned to ships due...

Chittagong now has a size 4 airfield.

Mike bombed Mandalay, Singapore and Manila. The damaged USS Pike was sunk at Manila. He lost a Mary in return. He also lost a Betty and a Lily over Singapore. He is using Claudes as escorts, as well as 12 Zekes so I will probably try another mass ambush shortly, once I have got all the current fighters to safety. My raid on IJA 33rd Div caused 21/1 casualties, while IJA 55th Div only took 5 due to weather hindering reconnaissance.

Supplies: Manila 29,040; Singapore 77,811. Hollyhock's damage is now 47/14/0. I forgot to check Rover.

Mike carried out a deliberate attack at Singapore: Here is a composite screenie.

In China Honan and Wuchow were bombed again. If I had spare fighters I would do something about it, but for now all I can do is let him train unhindered.

Here is a screenie showing the continuing Jap build up at Manila...

Sorry GBL ... you must have upgraded using your existing DB, I believe that we found a whole new group of Leaders and this is the result ... it should run fine from now on... hope you like the incremental improvements [;)]

Hi Damian

Was I not meant to, then? It is a fantastic tool and I know Mike and Scott (my other opponent) love it too. Thanks very much for all the hard work you and Floyd do [&o][&o]

Carl,
what you did was fine ... just a side effect of the upgrade, so no worries... Thanks for the compliments. I've just started looking at 1.6 so give us a month or so for something new to appear.

Perth airfield is now size 6. Hilo and Umnak have size 4 airfields, while Cooktown now has a size 3.

USS Greenling made many reports of Kate and Val sightings and attacks at Kwajalein. She penetrated the lagoon to sight certian ships (see screenie insert), but was surprised by PC Ch25 and sunk. I think mining of Kwajalein will now have to be suspended. It is just too costly. I will mine all the ports around Kwajalein instead. 47th and 48th BS flew their B-25s onto Suva from Pearl, losing one plane and crew in the process.

A sub has been sighted off the West Coast. All available ASW assets have been scrambled, including nearby convoy escorts (see main screenie). 36th BS was ready with it's B-25s at Vancouver and redeployed to Umnak Island.

2,000 tons of supplies arrived at Auckland, 2,000 tons of oil at Whyalla, while 6,000 tons of supplies and the lead elements of ABDA HQ arrived at Perth.

Mike bombed Mandalay, Singapore (losing 2 Sallys and 3 Helens) and Manila (losing 2 Marys). He is hitting the port and troops at Singapore. I am wondering if the slow land movement is making him contemplate a seabourne assault. My raid on Johore Bharu destroyed a Lily, while IJA 33rd Div suffered 20/1 casualties with IJA 55th Div taking 12/1. I have stopped the raids on the 33rd Div, because Mike is soon likely to ambush my Vildebeest from Rangoon, if past experience is anything to go by. Next turn my B-17s from Soerabaya will attempt a long range bombing of Saigon port without recon. My SEAC B-17s will bomb Rangoon Oil, which Mike has invested in repairing and the airfield.

The Japs took San Jose in an unopposed attack. Supplies: Manila 28,545; Singapore 78,032. Damage update: Hollyhock 47/11/0; Rover 46/40/0.

600 tons of supplies from Toboali were landed at Sinkawang. 4 flight/36 Sqn, reformed at Aden a few turns back after being sunk leaving Batavia earlier, has flown to Cochin to thicken up the Naval Search patrols at that choke point.

In China, Honan and Wuchow were bombed again, with Zekes appearing in the escort for the Wuchow raid. 2 raids were launched by SB-2s on shipping off Swatow, Neither were successful and the second raid was intercepted by a Nate CAP, with 1 SB-2 destroyed and 5 more damaged. The crew were saved.

Here is the latest list of arrivals from Tracker. Ships needing upgrade continue to trickle in and I accidentally sent the 21st PS to 3 bases, but all fragments should concentrate at Batavia shortly. As soon as Singapore is clear of damaged planes I will send in a new ambush...

S-44, on a minelaying op to Eniwetok, reported many Kate sightings.

1,000 tons of supplies arrived at Johnston Island from Pearl. Christmas Island is now fully repaired.

BB Nevada is repaired at LA and is moving to San Francisco to await the next convoy to Pearl Harbor. 8,000 tons of resources from Kodiak arrived at San Francisco. 541st Tank Destroyer Bn switched to SWPAC and is loading at SF for Townsville. 73rd BS converted to the B-26A at Anchorage.

AK Corregidor completed repairs at Capetwon and is loading 2,000 tons of supplies for Albany. 600 tons of supplies arrived at Devonport from Whyalla. My B-19s at Brisbane will bomb Rabaul from 18,000ft next turn. The cadre fragment for 31st US Infantry arrived by sub at Darwin. 3,500 tons of supplies also arrived, but Darwin and all the depleted units there are using it up faster than I can ship it in. More ABDA HQ troops arrived in Perth.

Here is a new feature in Tracker 1.5...

Using the new feature I found an error in the upgrade of my large APAs. I cannot have these ships using that much fuel, so I have cancelled upgrades for APs American Legion, Harris, Henry T Allen, J Franklin Bell, Wharton and Zeilin. If there are any others due that already have the upgrade I will just have to wear it, I suppose...

SS Truant was attacked by 4 Jap DDs north of Kuching, with no hits. SS Narwhal was also attacked by DDs off Manila, but also suffered no damage.

My raid on Rangoon did a little bit of AF damage, but the four oil hits damaged 6 centres! I destroyed a Lily at Johore Bharu and IJA 55th Div took 9/1 casualties. Mike hit Mandalay, Manila and Singapore. His raids on Singapore cost him 3 Sallys, a Lily and a Helen. I have flown in 2 squadrons of P-39s and 1 each of P-40Bs and Es.

I lost a Martin 139 in return for a Pete as bombers from Singkawang attacked BB Yamashiro north of Kuching. I then lost 3 out 4 A-20s in a second attack on the battleship. Unfortunately, I was wasting my Soerabaya B-17s on a bombing attempt at Saigon... Next turn, everything that can fly is on Naval Attack and A-24s and FAA Beauforts have flown into Singkawang. I do not know what Mike is intending, but I am ready to try to mess it up for him. Force Z has sailed from Soerabaya to join my Batavia BB force heading for Kuching. The damaged AK at Pontianak (82/54/0), which is getting nowhere fast, has been ordered to sail north as a very visible scout in order to trip any ambush...

Pp Scouts 26th Cav Rgt and US 86th FA Rgt at Manila have transferred to SWPAC and loaded cadres onto subs bound for Darwin. Damaged ships: Hollyhock 82/54/0; Rover 46/26/0. Supplies: Manila 28,250; Singapore 77,517.

In China Mike lost 2 Marys over Honan and also bombed Wuchow. PC Ch 4 was sunk by 4 bombs from Chinese IL-4Cs at Bako.

Due to the lack of supplies in China and the growing threat to the Burma road, Chinese bombers have been sent to reinforce SEAC. 2nd, 5th and 6th Attack Sqns (SB-2M) and 30th Attack Sqn (SB-2) have flown into Chittagong and will join the RAF bombing raids on what I think is IJA 31st Div, now approaching Mandalay. IJA 55th Div looks like it is heading for Lashio, so 4th Attack's V-92Cs have flown to Mytchina to try to attack them. Mike has been using RTAF Zekes in Burma for ages, so I feel I am justified in these moves.

Below is a composite Tracker screenie showing yet another new feature...

600 tons of supplies arrived at Lahaina from Pearl.

DD Sampson is ready at Seattle and is cruising back to Pearl. The Jap sub spotted off the West Coast two turns ago was I-10. She must have a good skipper and crew, because she sank SC Quesnel with 2 torpedoes. She suffered "4 hits" from the other three ASW vessels in that group, but I do not think any real damage was done. We are having sync problems, so I was unable to gain any insight from the replay. I have other ASW groups in the hex, but do not think they will catch the sub before she moves.

20,000 tons of fuel arrived at Townsville. The 2 Dutch PTs with the convoy will move forward to Cairns for repairs. 8,000 tons of supplies arrived at Perth from Capetown. My B-19 raid on Rabaul destroyed a Zeke and a Pete and did a little bit of damage.

Aden airfield is now size 4 and Johore Bharu port is now size 3.

My raid on Rangoon achieved another oil hit and 14 centres are now damaged. Mike must regret bothering to repair them... The Chinese/RAF raids on IJA 31st Div before Mandalay caused 55/1 casualties and the Jap unit moved sideways to Magwe, hopefully involuntarily due to the ferocity of this latest air attack. When he take Magwe the path to Imphal will be open as I have no blocking force north of the river. I am hoping that IJA 31st and 55th Divisions are now having supply and morale problems due to the constant air attacks. Br 2nd Div, my best unit in the theatre, is moving out of reserve at Hyderabad and moving towards Imphal. It will be a while before they get there, but hopefully it will take some time for Mike to negotiate the jungle trails. Br 14th Army HQ is loading at Aden for Calcutta, with plans for Kohima. Most n=bombers will concentrate on the 31st at Magwe tomorrow, but Mike may well have some Zekes on LRCAP. 3,000 tons of supplies are unloading at Akyab.

The Jap BB force seems to be at Saigon, although there is a force near where they were heading west that air recon says consists of transports. 2 raids on shipping at Miri by Beauforts and A-24s out of Singkawang put a bomb into AK Isuzugawa Maru and 4 more into AK Hankow Maru. Force Z and my BBs are heading back to the south, as is the brave decoy AK (82/66/0). 70th BS will fly Naval Attack missions from Kuching tomorrow.

1,000 tons of supplies arrived at Koepang from Kendari. K-X (sys 26) left Soerabaya to mine Johore Bharu on her way to Diamond Harbour. SC Hollyhock (sys 46) is on her way to Colombo from Tjilitjap with the ARs that helped her. I must remember to change the AR orders to leave them forward to assist with any emergencies. HMS Rover's damage is 46/19/0. HMS Indomitable (sys 34) finally disbanded at Aden.

Mike raided Mandalay, Manila and Singapore. The Singapore raid is detailed as the bottom, as an example of our sync issues. I would be grateful for any suggestions on how to fix them. Supplies: Manila 27,870; Singapore 77,001. I have a new Ace in 1LT Morrissey of 21st PS (6 kills). A Jap Ace also got his 6th kill over Singapore.

From the combat report...
Day Air attack on Singapore [UK] , at 22,51

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zeke x 12
A5M4 Claude x 23
G3M2 Nell x 18
G4M1 Betty x 25
Ki-27 Nate x 9
Ki-48-I Lily x 18
Ki-21-II Sally x 54

Allied aircraft
P-39D Airacobra x 26
P-40B Tomahawk x 13
P-40E Warhawk x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zeke: 3 destroyed
A5M4 Claude: 10 destroyed
G3M2 Nell: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
G4M1 Betty: 1 destroyed
Ki-27 Nate: 3 destroyed
Ki-48-I Lily: 4 destroyed, 3 damaged
Ki-21-II Sally: 11 destroyed, 5 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-39D Airacobra: 6 destroyed, 7 damaged
P-40B Tomahawk: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged
P-40E Warhawk: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged

And from the replay and replay combat report...

SigInt: IJA 4th Curved Gun Bn is planning for Nanchang.

Heiho and Liuchow airfields are now size 3 and 4 respectively.

Mike bombed Honan and Wuchow again. My IL-4Cs missed PC Ch6 off Bako.

Here is a screenie showing that my APA problem may not be too much of an issue. I only have one more to arrive, in the 12/41 configuration. If I can stop her from upgrading on 06/42, in 1943 when the next upgrade comes I can just push through the upgrades and avoid the waste of fuel, at the expense of the doubled capacity for a year or so.

Make sure all 3rd Party software is not active while running the Combat turn.

Isn't it something like the Allied player before sending back the turn, turns off the combat report in the preferences on the map screen.
The Japanese player runs the turn without Combat reports, then turns back on the combat report in the preferences screen.

Try not to hit ESC during the animations.

Thanks for that Damian. We did it after this turn and the new one (sans combat reports) is in my inbox...

10/04/42

Cairns airfield is now size 5. That at Alice Springs is now size 3.

2,000 tons of supplies arrived at Johnston from Pearl.

I have recalled all the ASW forces that were sub hunting far to the east of San Diego. Perhaps the sub in question was damaged after all. CLAA Atlanta arrived at Colon and is cruising to Pearl Harbor. BB Nevada reached San Francisco and has joined the Hornet tf for the time being.

Here is the latest news from Tracker. I did not realise that leaders that have not yet arrived improve their stats...
