Here:
• Click on the three vertical dots near the upper right-hand corner to open Chrome's menu.
• Click on "Settings".
• Click on "Advanced settings" to display more of the settings.
• Look for the "Downloads" section.
• There is a check box labeled "Ask where to save each file before downloading". Make sure that box is checked.

The way it works when there is an existing file is this (by the way, this is standard for MANY programs today, so it's worth understanding it).ORIGINAL: BillBrown
It does allow a where too, but I could not find a way to have it replace the file, it just kept creating new files.
But, I have been using firefox since version 1.0 so I am very comfortable with it.
• When the download window first opens, it will already be pointing at some folder (doesn't matter where).
• If there is already a file, example 'name.txt', by the same name in that folder, then the suggested name to save under will be 'name (1).txt'.
• If you like that name just click save.
• If you don't like that name, click in the box with the file name and change it!
• If you want to save the file to a different folder, then navigate to the other folder - you will still have to make the file name be what you want (as in the prior point).

You are doubtlessly right, it has been a good while since I tried Chrome and probably did not really work with it much.

I stepped through it just before writing the post to make sure I did not confuse matters instead of helping.ORIGINAL: BillBrown

I switched to Firefox from IE an unremembered length of time ago, and eventually switched to Chrome at least ~7 years ago (maybe longer). I do like Chrome better. Firefox is in the midst of some major changes. If you rely of a lot of add-ons or plug-ins you might look at some of the news about upcoming changes.

I just changed my advanced setting for downloads to ask for the location and also changed the default to be my desktop. I like it that way even though I have to find it among all the porn. I didn't see a button to click to finalize that so I got out then went back to make sure they took and they did.
Thanks witpqs

Did you find the download for the open beta version 1126a?

OK, BillB tells me the current version is 1126a and it is to be found in the member's area for my registered games. I went to the place you will see below and it's not there. Where do I go and is it possible I don't have my game registered and need to do so to get it?

I have it. But the latest is 1126b, which fixes a couple more bugs and has been out and in use since last September.
Which one do you want?

Geoff, you have to log in to access the 1126a version. 1126b is available from the beta thread in the scenario sub forum.

OK, looking at my storage area let me point out that 1126a was first a standard Beta (August 2016) which went on top of whatever was the prior official release. Then (November 2016) was released as the latest official release, which is what (as Bill points out) you will find in the official downloads area where you need to log in.ORIGINAL: BillBrown

1126b is from a few weeks later than 1126a.
Anybody sees an error with my chronology please pipe in.

I originally was on 1126b. I've gone to some trouble to be on the last official patch which Steve uses. I'm happy to use whatever he is. Is 1126a official or an old beta that was replaced by 1126b?
RE: The Gorn Supremacy; stock AW1Steve v. geofflambert
The only thing is that 1126a is listed on the members page as an open beta update version.
Your chronology is spot on.

I downloaded it (1126a) first as a Beta (~3.5 MB) then later packaged as a comprehensive release (~103 MB).

Steve, if I understand him correctly, has never used any beta version. I thought he was on 1124 and I'm still pretty sure he is, he'll let me know.
Anyway, I tried to log in to access 1126a and any password I might have used was rejected so thinking I wasn't registered (because of that Slitherine / Matrix merger) I tried to do so and was told my email already was, so I reset my password. We have recently entered a new millenium and before this one is over I will be playing a game. I seem to have a very special talent that makes everything find a way to fail.

No, that's not quite right. I frequently use beta's on MY OWN games against the IA. I've even played with some of MichaelM's wild mods. I NEVER use any MOD on a PBEM UNLESS all players (including 2x2's 3x4's 2x1's etc) agree to the SAME mods or betas at the same time. With a honest to God, no fooling agreement . All on one or none at all. PERIOD. [:)]

No house rules, neither of us like them. We're still not up. I think we're going to meet to get this going. Once we do I'll probably start the real AAR from scratch, you know, here today, gorn tomorrow. If he's not keen on contributing I'll BAN him from it. [;)]
RE: The Gorn Supremacy; stock AW1Steve v. geofflambert
You should ban him so we can talk about the sneaky things you will be doing.
