More important than TF leaders: Get high DL on the subs with NavSearch or ASW …

Thanks Pax, that’s the mission of Jake Force so I’ll post a status report from them when I get a chance.

Most of the first intake of pilots are now at or very close to 50 experience, 65+ Naval skill and 60+ ASW skill, so it might just be a matter of time now to get their experience up by flying naval search patrols.
I’m also going to concentrate the better ASW pilots to where the enemy subs are spotted most.
Currently around Sasebo and Yokosuka; throughout the East China Sea; plus SEAF.

I also have some land based Val groups training up in ASW to cover the narrows near Formosa and one experimental IJA Sally Ic group patrolling W/SW of Kyushu.

BB Yamato causes some allied headaches on Adak Island.
Tank Regts are moving to surround Chungking.
Supply is being dragged forward through the mud in Burma.
Daly Waters Pub is cleared of allied stragglers in the NT.
SEAF is in a tense lull phase, which I’ve used to withdraw most of 14th Army from Lunga to Rabaul.
B17s plaster Funafuti. A few Rufes here would be useful, but the nearest ones are at Truk with trainee pilots...
There were a few hits on allied subs today, both from the air and with depth charges.

I noticed a few days ago that I have +2 points for Allied strategic losses, but I have no idea how I scored them!
In other news, Chengtu industry was captured intact with 180 Resources, 180 Light Industry and 80(1) Heavy Industry.
80k Resources were also captured. With 2(1) Manpower, could these two points of damage at Chengtu be the 2 x Strategic loss points?

Air losses today were 20:2 against the allies, with only 2x Oscar ops losses for Japan.

I've just completed a review of pre-war aircraft and engine manufacturing plan with the Minister for War.

I was always a bit uncomfortable that I was planning to produce more aircraft than I could train pilots, but the main purpose of this review was to try and save on future supply spend.

The pre-war plan was to change obsolete aircraft factories to modern aircraft, but I now feel that I don't need to do that and it would be a waste of supply. I've come up with some summary images to show what the revised production plan is, but the result is that I have been able to flatten the curves for both aircraft and engine production, saving at least 1 million supply from those future years.

Red lines are just to give some visual reference points to help show the comparison from Dec 41 to Jun 42 plans.

This saves a fair few HI points too. The only thing I feel that they would be worth spending on would be to help with some naval ship acceleration, but I don't really want to spend supply on expanding any more naval shipyards. 246th Sentai arrives at Tokyo – takes a full quota of trainee pilots so will spend about 3 months training them up before deploying south.
1st Area Army arrives at Mutankiang – LGEN Ayabe commanding. He will be replaced with a decent GEN at some point, but I don’t need to spend that 30x PP until 1945 so will save it for now. HQ 1st Area Army will take command of 3rd and 5th Armies on paper and stay at Mutankiang to boost border defences.
2nd Area Army arrives at Tokyo – Big decision to be made with this HQ, whether to send it to the vicinity of Java/Timor or to NE India to provide an Army level HQ in that region. I have set it to prepare for Chittagong and will move it there, but that will leave a big gap in the southern defensive perimeter. GEN Shimomura is appointed to command to replace LGEN Inoue, which only costs 7 PP.
2nd Army arrives at Tokyo – LGEN Shichida commanding, he has decent stats so will keep the job. 2nd Army will move with HQ 2nd Area Army to NE India and prepare for Dimapur to help boost IJA units in that part of the front.

Breaking news: Chittagong is captured and the AIF 7th Division with it.
Lots of allied movement arrows spotted in NE India as they move to setup new defensive positions somewhere.
Imphal fortifications are reduced to 1 so it should be captured next attack too.

Once the Tojo and Frank take over as the front line fighters, I won’t build many Oscars (if any) and will mothball the factories. Instead of changing those factories to something else and burning supply by doing it, I might reactivate the factories to build the Oscar IV once it arrives in 8/45. The Oscar IV has a service rating of 1 and 2x 56 accuracy centre mounted 20mm cannons, so if the war is still going by then it could help in layered CAP with better aircraft above it.

Japanese Bombardment attack – reconnaissance by bombardment, shows me everything needed to plan the first deliberate attack except for what the fortification levels are. My guess is that fortifications are level 4, so the first attack will wait until those involved have prepared themselves field fortifications to jump off from.
I would like to get a raw AV ratio of >1:1 before launching the first deliberate attack, so will keep up the aerial bombardments and the artillery will join in as supply allows. I would need one more Division to get to 3000 AV, but the nearest contenders are more than a week of walking away.

Aircraft Ki-49-IIa Helen advances R&D – they enter production at 30/month. I will leave it at that rate and keep Sally producing too as I have <10x Sallys in the pool. Sally factories are 1x23 +1x22 for a total of 45/month, so that looks like the minimum to keep the IJA Medium Bomber force fully equipped. Helens will be issued to 3rd Air Division first, followed by 5th Air Division. With only 30x Helen/month, there will still be quite a few front line Sally groups for the foreseeable future.

Here's the worm as at 1 Jul 42.

The main reasons for the spike since last month are from the land war in China and Burma, with most points coming from captured cities and troops.

Auto-victory with a 4:1 ratio still feels a long way off, but I just noticed that if I can capture Chungking and keep everything else the same that would go close. Chungking is a 2400 point play, but with -800 to the allies +1600 to Japan that would make the score 27931:7132 or 3.92:1.

Here's the monthly report from the IGHQ Intelligence Staff showing where the points are being scored and the change since last month.

In the air:
The IJAAF/IJNAF are flying more than the allies.
I have a slight advantage in air-air but not overwhelming. The challenge is to keep that positive ratio going as allied fighters improve. Tojo IIa will soon join the fight in NE India.
From the aircraft ground and flak losses you can see who is doing more bombing at the moment. That will swap as the months go by.

On the ground
The allies lost 9 bases but IJ gained 16. Not sure how that works, but I don't think dot hexes count and I've been building up some dot hexes, mainly so I can see them on the map but also because you don't get any points for dots.
The biggest points change for the IJ relates to land battles, with VPs for captured bases and destroyed/captured enemy ground forces.

On the waves
A bit of a sideshow really.
I am losing AMc at an unsustainable rate, while the Int staff still believe 2x USN BBs were sunk last month while it is more likely just 1, but possibly 0.

From this, the plan for the next few months is:
1. keep up the land battles with a focus on China,
2. try to maintain parity in air battles, and
3. try not to get the KB sunk while using it to support IJA operations.

Here's the report from the War Ministry showing changes in raw materials and production since last month, plus a comparison to previous quarters and the forecast for 1 Aug.

Production of war machines is generally tracking close to forecast.
The War Ministry staff didn't factor in vehicle upgrades before the war started so that is the reason for those numbers being out.

For raw materials, there was a much larger drop in Oil this month than previously. If Oil keep dropping at that rate the pool will be empty in 13 months...
Does the quantity on ships get counted in the number from the Industry/Resource screen in (###)? I hope not, as that could explain the size of this drop as I have some large TK convoys hauling Oil and Fuel.

Resources are looking good but large stockpiles are forming at Palembang and Singapore that I will allocate more xAK Adens to hauling home.

I am starting to try and limit Fuel use by the IJN Combined Fleet and still tightly rationing Supply export out of Japan.
