Right, well things are still going to be slow, but Raver's almost finished his holiday, and i've almost got enough time to resume normal play.
This turn: Obviously I've screwed up at Rangoon - 30 planes destroyed on the ground were mostly babs and dinahs but is starting to waste supply and airframes. Getting on my nerves to be honest. I'll be trying something drastic here soon.

Just to expand on what banananana boy is talking about........I hit Rangoon again....and I hit it bloody hard with 42 aircraft claimed to be destroyed on the ground and another 25 odd damaged[:D]. The cause of all this pain is Mandalay, and I don't think that ratface is going to stand for much more of this. I would say that he will be launching a ground offensive against Mandalay as soon as possible. Thr trouble is that we are now into June'42 and this place is fortified and armed to the teeth, so it is going to be a very expensive op for him. Gee what a shame.
Of course he could simply respond with an air attack, but having just up-graded two of the Hurricane Sqdns based there to Spitfires, I am having wet dreams about him trying to close down the airfield.[:D]

Well little to report for today except that I sank a sub off the coast of Oz. Luskan has had at least one sub hanging around near Townsville for some time now launching his float plane and spying on everything along the coast. I have to admitt to getting really pissed off with this so a few days ago I sent some ASW DDs to sink it.....well I found it alright but got a torp into one of my DDs at no cost to Luskan. The next day dawned and once again the sub was in the same spot.............so I sank it.[:D] But the ASW TF has reported that there are another 2 subs in the area.
I'm going to have to keep fishing.

I just noticed the Japanese never took Timor and some of the other islands. Are you going to build this up to attack his oil and resources?

Not sure..........I don't want to over stretch myself just yet. I have PM well covered and have units in place on the north coast of PNG, also I am well dug in on Nomuea and am making advances in the Solomans. Timor is well covered by LRB so if he makes a move here he will be squished................much like his obortive attemp to hit Mandalay in the last turn ...........have a look at the combat report.
Also I am still unsure of what Luskans future plans are......he has a massive buildup based in Singapore.....some 34 LCUs and well over 140 ships. This is a significant force which I must be wary of.

To expand futher on my last post, in regards to Timor, the problem is as follows. Yes I now do have the manpower available to me to consider putting a sizable force on Timor, but I am still hamstrung by my inability to project power. Remember is is late June'42 and although the equipment strem is starting to open up, I still have a vast area which I have to secure before I can move forward. Also I still only have 6 carriers...seven if you inclued that RNs CVL. To be successful in a Timor operation I would have to use the CVs, and that is something that I am not yet will to do.........have a toe to toe battle with Luska's CVs...not just yet as the timing is not right.
Also I still have one arm behind my back with the lack of base force units. At this point in the game there are just not enough to go round so I have to husband them. Another thing that is still in crticle short supply is APs, I simply never seem to have enough of these ships and it is a major factor in my slow buildup.
Another thing that has to be asked is what are Luskan's intentions? While yes he has not moved as deep as other IJ players have done he has grabbed the key bases that he needs and could in fact do little else but sit and wait for me to make a move. His LCUs are all intact as is his airfarce and navy.....with the exception of his sub force. He has a lot of force sitting in Singapore which threatens to be used in an offensive in India....unlikely now but still a threat that I have to treat as being real.
China he has full control of all the rail links and is showing little inclination to move deeper into China...a smart move on his part, as it will be more expensive for me to attack him in terms of men that will be lost.
Burma, well he is still sitting outside of Mandalay and as I have said before, he will have to take it out as the constant air raids on Pagan and Rangoon is costing him dearly.....to the point where I would almost say that I am winning the airbattle. He WILL assault Mandalay but I would think that will be the extent of his push north.
DEI is almost fully under his control, with that last major battle for Java now being fought at Soerabaja.....but as has been pointed out he has yet to make a move on Timor. Maybe a SNLF force but I doubt that he will land in force or even bother to develope any major airfields or ports.
PNG Port Morsby is a rock, it has a size 9 fort and is ringed with 3500 mines as well as at least 3000 assault points ready to throw back any attempt to invade it. Luskan would have to land with at least 6000 assault points but would do better with 9000 as he faces crack aussie divisions well supported with very experianced fighter squadrons...........he will find no easy victory here. He may reinforce his current gains in the north west of the Island, but that is about it. I think that he will be content to interdict with betties and Zeros along with the odd bombardment TF at Buna.
Australia is now very secure, however i still can not rule out an attack and even limited invasion of Perth.....Luskan would only do this knowning that I would have to respond for moral reasons rather that for military, as strategically an attack upon Perth is simply a waste of time and energy. I cannot see Luskan hitting Oz now.

No it's much too early to think about a counterattack. I was thinking more on the lines of bombing his oil and resources using the airfields of Timor. Or judging by the map it looks like the Allies still control territory very close to Borneo and Java. Luskan has at least taken Bali right?

Well certainly the initiative slipped from my grasp. I stuck to my game plan - however I ahve a learnt a few important things for the next time.
1. Snatch Burma earlier. let singapore and phillipines wait longer but grab Burma. Has cost me too much pain.
2. Subs to be used only in border areas (as opposed to behind enemy lines). This will minimize tyhe risk of hunter killers asw groups (and also minimise their chances to change the war by torpedoing saratoga twice, Yorktown etc. etc.).
3. AA. Seriously, forget building little tankettes, build armaments left right and centre so you have so many AA guns you're using them as civic decoration.

Well certainly the initiative slipped from my grasp. I stuck to my game plan - however I ahve a learnt a few important things for the next time.
1. Snatch Burma earlier. let singapore and phillipines wait longer but grab Burma. Has cost me too much pain.
2. Subs to be used only in border areas (as opposed to behind enemy lines). This will minimize tyhe risk of hunter killers asw groups (and also minimise their chances to change the war by torpedoing saratoga twice, Yorktown etc. etc.).
3. AA. Seriously, forget building little tankettes, build armaments left right and centre so you have so many AA guns you're using them as civic decoration.
I doubt the AA guns will help any. I have packed Rangoon with just about every AA unit Japan has and I barely scratch the paint on the Allies bombing me at 10,000 feet.
If I shoot down 1 bomber and damage 10 I claim a victory.
That is with a HQ, Air HQ, 35,000 supply and anything else I can lay my hands on or think of that will help.
Yet, let him go after 2 Japanese CA's at 10,000 feet and he gets shredded. AA is screwed up IMO.

You know it's funny how things work out. Two game months ago I was determined to hold Burma at all costs, I had even airlifted in the Britsh 18th Division to Mandalay, then about a month ago I was gripped by a blind panic that Luskan was going to invade India and airlifted the 18th back to Diamond Harbour, things looked bleak i didn't have enough to hold India as all of my strength was in Burma, and now I am on the up swing again, knowning that there is now way in hell that Luskan can invade India.

As it happens I've actually pulled off a "successful" Invasion of the indian coast in another game. The plan was simple - land at a relatively empty base with a division, a cd unit, an aa unit and lots of those effective little construction eng units and a shitload of supply. The allied player at first under reacted thinking it was a big diversion (it was), but then when their british division rolls up and discovered the true size of the force I'd landed (big enough to take on an allied division easy) they over reacted and yanked every man who could stand up, see lightning or hear thunder into the buildup to assault the beach head.
In typical fashion I saw this coming, and having more than achieved my objective evacuated all the eng, the aa unit and more than half the division before the end came (the CD unit was just too big, and they were doing too well against pesky allied destroyers trying to bombard).
The name of said base will remain undisclosed at this time because I plan to do something similar. Too big to ignore, too little cost e much if it all goes wrong. My concern is when Raver notices I've no longer got shitloads of ships and troops at singapore he realises I'm on the way (how the hell does he know what I've got there anyways? He hasn't reconned the place. His intel isn't that good is it?)

Allied intel is very good in some areas......and I have a lot of spies in Singers. I doubt that Luskan can do his "trick" on me in India as the place is swarming with PBYs so there is nothing that can move in either the Indian Ocean or the Bay of Bengal without me knowing about it.
Plus there is something else that Luskan now has to think about......I launched my first 100 plus bomber raid against Pagan last move. 120 B-25s took to the skies to blast the jap airfield. Within a few weeks I will have the capacity to launch 300 plus bombers, and these puppies can quickly be used for anti shiping. I have been careful and each Indian city has a size 4 airfield and the ground support to cope with 300 aircraft. I might not be able to move troops around the map fast but my airpower can.
The next day or two I plan on launching a 200 bomber raid, simply because I can.[8D]

The problem with the b-25 bombing raids isn't that they do a lot of damage - they'll do plenty of that later - it is actually that the bastards can do their raids from 20000 ft up, and gain experience until your average B-25 pilot can basically "Use the force Luke!" bomb with their eyes shut from 10000ft.
The best way to blow these babies up is by bombardment, but Raver has been working on his Pbys in the Bay of Bengal, and after last time's disastrous outing I'm not sure where my heavies are best employed.
One of my subs got creamed off the aussie coast this turn - but this particular sub had 3 kills to her name before she went under (my most successful sub . . .lost).
I spent this turn reviewing the men commanding my most important units. I checked them all - every division, every HQ, every important fighter squadron. I had lots of crappy leaders who'd been promoted into command positions while more able subordinates were waiting for their chance. Most of them now have that chance.
We'll see if it makes a difference.

Intel just got of the phone to me and their first word was "Whoops" . "Whoops" said I ? "What do you mean whoops" ? "Well" they replied, "it is kinda like this, we made a small mistake about the troop concentration at Pagan, seems like it is not 83,000 as we first thought."
"Go on" I urged, "what are the revised numbers"..........at this point I could feel one of those throbbing headaches starting.
"Well it is more like 163,000 plus 2065 guns and 1045 AFV give or take 10."
At this point I KNOW that I have a headache
163,000 !!!!! I yelled. "Thats double what I told my field commanders to expect and all you can say is whoops ? I think a right royal fock-me would be better that a whoops don't you?"

Now dear reader I could continue to tell you what was said, but liitle or none would get past the forum filter, so lets just say that I was not a happy little chappie...............needless to say there is now an intel section that is on short notice.
On the good side, my bomber boys are doing a wonderful job over Pagan and their results have done wonders in easing my headache.

Those troops have been there for quite a while actually - took you a while to spot it. Previously I had all those troops spread out at sort of 1 division per base in Burma, but HQ support was too hard to organise that way. Couldn't leave them in rangoon - where all the supply is - so they moved up to Pagan. We'll see how things at Mandalay progress soon enough.
My Intel team, on the other hand, are still arguing over how many times "e" appears in the word Enterprise. Seems the carrier pigeon Intel network isn't what it once was . . ,.
