tread water for 5 minutes.

Heard about that one from some jarhead friends. In BDUs. Ugh.

And if you're submariner you have to do the submarine escape training tank every 5 years too

Higher levels mean a 12 month period between tests.

Regular testing? That would never have worked in the navy. We had a treadmill/running machine in the missile compartment for everyone to use. I asked the doc why he didn't use it. His reply was, "If you could analyse this atmosphere like I can you wouldn'y want to breathe more of it than you have to." I took his preofessional advice.

We had a recator panel operator called Beach Ball. Enuff said.

Simon,

Escaping from submarines? Isn't that what you did when you left the RN? Do they train you for that?

They give you "resettlement" courses which recognises the fact that most servicemen who leave after long service are just not equipped to deal with the real world. A good example is the CV/resume. I was 32 and had never written one, didn't even know where to begin. Then there's housing, benefits, doctors, dentists. Some with families have experience of the latter but if they've lived in married quarters then the open housing market is a complete shock.

Very happy for you Eric. [&o]

Now about that car. The trouble is that its probably French. See, your wife should be French (you got that one right), but your car should be German, your watch Swiss, your tea English, etc. [:D]
