Big fan of this AAR Mike very easy to understand for someone trying to learn to play the Japanese side and has little knowledge of Japanese production. Thanks!

Hi guys.  We're still playing as we can.  We actually completed 4 turns this past weekend.  This AAR is definitely not dead.  I'll resume here shortly.  Gotta dust off the notes.

Hi guys. I've finally gotten real life to a point where I can spend a little time here again. Ted and I have been playing but I haven't been posting. Anyway, here goes.....

Burma

I captured Mandalay, capturing the infrastructure intact. Manpower at 1(1) and Resources at 20(0). I'm continuing to flow north, driving the Allied rabble before me. I've got an Oscar sentai at Rangoon which mixes it up with some Warhawks relatively frequently. Losses are pretty even for the most part, but today I lost 2 Oscars to 1 Warhawk. The battles happen over friendly territory so I rarely lose a pilot fortunately.

Singapore

It's time to explain why I can't take Singapore. The supply situation in Malaya and Thailand is horrible! I'm in the process of sending supply from Japan, but there was an escort shortage in the home islands, which delayed things, and now it's taking forever for the convoy to make it's way to Malaya. Anyway, I scrounged enough supply to attack, and I reduced the fort level to 1 (again).

Java

The former Batavia garrison (now holed up 1 hex E of Batavia) was attacked again. I destroyed 2 of the remaining 6 units and killed off 3k troops for a loss of 25 guys. Why won't these guys surrender?

Elsewhere in Java, I'm pushing everything toward Soerabaja, taking all the outlying bases.

Other Stuff

I have 3 company sized units running around taking all the small bases. One is currently in the SE Fleet area, one is at the northern tip of New Guinea and the last is between Borneo and Mindinao.

Singapore

Oops, I goofed. Last turn I shock attacked the Brits and forgot to set them to defense. Guess what? They shock attacked again. Only 1:2 odds this time and I lost 4k troops to 2100 Brits. Fortunately most were just disabled.

Java

Today was a good day in Java. The old Batavia garrison lost another unit (3 remaining now) and 1k troops for 41 Japanese casualties.

Other places I took in Java:

Madioen liberated - Manpower 1(1) and Resources 16(4) - Nothing will be rebuilt.

Koepang - 1:2 attack reducing the fort from 2 to 1 and killing 165 for the loss of 84. It'll fall soon.

Kragan liberated - Oil 28(7) and Refinery 24(6) - I'll repair the oil. Not sure about the refinery. It's so darn far from Japan that I may repair the refinery. Gotta think about it a bit though.....

Milne Bay

I had a small convoy of 2 xAKs and an escort shipping a small engineer unit to Milne Bay. A Dutch sub spotted them and put a torp into the one of the cargo ships. *Poof* There goes half an engineer unit. That's why you never ever put a unit in only 1 ship.

Java

That old Batavia garrison finally surrendered! 5300 were captured. The troops there are headed to the southern tip of Summatra for the long delayed move on Palembang.

I took Koepang.

Not much else of note today.

Very uneventful day today. The highlight was taking Kudat in NE Borneo. (Yup, it was that exciting.)

More excitement today.  One of Ted's S class subs put a torpedo into an xAKL north of Sapporo and down she went.  The sub got clean away.  That ship was part of the resource convoy system to move resources to Honshu.

I took a couple of dot hexes.

For the cost of 1 Sonia in China, I downed 2 B339Ds and a Demon in Java.  The remnants of the Dutch Air Force continues to fly and continues to get shot down.  I have Baby KB lingering in the area.  The Zeros are getting wonderful experience from this.  Soryu's Zero daitai has 5 pilots with 81+ experience.  Three will move to TRACOM.

Burma

I took Shwebo, killing 454 Brits for no loss. I'm using a tank regiment who's chasing this poor base force.

Milne Bay

The Hatsushima found that Dutch sub that sank the xAK the other day. She hit her with a DC and got a few near misses. The sub showed up as sunk, but I suspect it's more likely that she is limping home (wherever that is).

Singapore

I tried another shock attack today. I need to forget shock attacks. I lost 4800 to 2100 Brits. The only good thing was reducing the fort from level 3(!) to 2.

Java

Two more B339Ds were shot down by Baby KB.

Edit: I got the LSD Akitsu Maru as a reinforcement today!

Reinforcement:  46 JNAF AF Unit

Java

Lots of fun today.  The Dutch Air Force tried to bomb the troops congregating at Soerabaja (the last Dutch bastion in Java).  Three 139WH-3s and 9 CW22s were shot down by Baby KB.  More experience!

Deboyne Island (wherever that is)

The DD Kamikaze found a Dutch sub and hit her with a Depth Charge.  No clue how bad though.

9 more Dutch planes were shot down today (1 B339D and 8 CW22s). We did lose a Sally to flak over Soerabaja.

The typical bombing of Singapore took place costing us a Lily. With the supply problem there, very few, if any, planes fly. The supply is on it's way though. Poor planning on my part. I should have sent supply from day 1. I just didn't know what the supply situation in Japan would look like. It's been fine all along.

Nothing to report other than dot bases being liberated here and there.

Reinforcements:  78 Fighter Sentai (36 Nates) in Kwantung - another training regiment; Wake Island Coastal Gun Bn.

Wake Island

Just a brief note about Wake Island.  The Coastal Gun Bn brings it's strength up to just over 6k troops.  It's garrison in addition to the CD unit is a SNLF, Naval Guard, engineer bn and a small base force.  The air component is 2 Emilys.  The fort level is ~4.5 and slowly increasing to 6.  My ships rarely visit the place.  Just the occasional supply convoy.  Ted hasn't visited it at all.  Actually, he's pretty scarce everywhere.  I see planes and subs.  I rarely find a convoy between Pearl Harbor and the West Coast.  Once or twice I'll find a small convoy somewhere else, but he's hiding really well.

Java

Seven more Dutch planes were shot down today (1 B339D and 6 CW22s) for no loss to Baby KB.  My ground forces continue to close on Soerabaja.

Other Stuff

The I-6 has returned to service after a lengthly repair.  Actually, most of the time was spent moving to Kwajalein and then to Japan.  She was hit by a depth charge off the coast of Hawaii on 19 Feb 42.

Reinforcements:  Lots of air units. Unfortunately, they don't come with pilots so they suck lots of pilots. Same with planes.

Genzan Ku S-1 - 27 A6M2 (22 Air Flotilla) - destined for the Burma Theater
Kisaragu Ku K-1 - 45 G3M2 (with 15 spares) (13 Air Flotilla) - trainers
Yokohama Ku S-1 - 9 A6M2-N (13 Air Flotilla) - trainers, the first Rufes
1 Ku S-1 - 27 A5M4 (21 Air Flotilla) - will upgrade to Zeros - destined for Southern SRA and support of the Australian Invasion
6 Ku S-1 - 45 A6M2 (13 Air Flotilla) - trainers
6 Ku T-1 - 6 C5M2 (13 Air Flotilla) - trainers

In addition, I received a CHa class SC and an xAK. The cargo ship is a STD-C and will sail to Maizuru and wait for Jun 42 when it upgrades to a TK.

Hawaii

Off the coast of Hawaii the I-15 found and sank the xAK West Planter. I suspect she was carrying (or had just unloaded) supply.

Java

Baby KB shot down a Hawk and 3 CW22s. Keep sending them up to be shot down, Ted!

I attacked Soerabaja. I really wanted to see what I was up against. Only about 1/3 of the forces had arrived. I got 3:1 results but the fort level was 3 (and wasn't reduced). I lost 1872 troops to 1609 Dutch troops. I did kill off one Dutch unit.

Other Stuff

Some other info in case you were interested. I allocate air units by the HQ they are attached to. Here's the allocation:

Navy:

21 Air Flotilla: Southern SRA. Will participate in the Darwin operation.
22 Air Flotilla: Burma/Pt. Blair
23 Air Flotilla: SE Fleet AO
24 Air Flotilla: Pacific

Army:

3 Air Division: Java to Burma. Eventually Burma.
5 Air Division: Southern SRA. Will participate in the Darwin operation.

Are you planning on downgrading the 6 Ku S-1 to A5M4s and redistribute the better airframes elsewhere?
