Apparently the guy sprayed live bullets (i.e. so he did actually fired at least several of them) - so there was no explosion at all... [:(]
BTW, is there a need for blan adapter in all modern automatic rifles? What gun French use?
They use the FA-MAS, and it comes with a little round blank adapter. You have to have it, in order to trap enough gas to work the bolt.
With FAMAS, regular weapon for french infantry, you have to use a blank adapter. If firing real bullet with it, you blow your gun. The french medias are dumb enough to explain the accident with no precision: they have no idea about how to fire blank shot!! To shoot on 16 people take a little time, even with long burst. I can't explain myself how it could happen...even with stupidity....
OK... so the only other real explanation is deliberate act (and not accident)... [:(]

My guess is that the press got the story wrong - the gun blew up and injured 16 people - not 16 people shot.
EDIT: However, IF 16 people WERE shot, i'd say it would have to be deliberate.
It seems that most "accidents" and "incidents" almost always are "links in a chain", any one of which would not cause a problem, but together spell disaster. This "smells" of one of those situations to me. One problem can always be headed off, but several , in correct ( or rather incorrect ) succession , defeats any possible safeguards that designers imagine. That's one of the reasons that in aviation , training for disaster in simulation consists of some bizarre combinations....."three engines on fire, loss of electricity and the pilot drops his pen into the slot wedging the control yoke?". It's bizzarre , but then again , so are most accidents. [:(]
I would say that what we are going to know as the public opinion depends on who (if) stands behind the whole situation. It could have been an accident, I am not saying it was not. However, something does not seem to fit the whole scenario, shot me but I do not know what it is.
How could this live ammo incident have happened? In order for an auto or semi-auto weapon to function with blanks, you need to put on a blank adapter - which basically obstructs the barrel of the gun... This should pretty much make the gun blow up if regular ammo is fired... unless the guy using the live ammo didn't put on a blank adapter as well... in which case one has to wonder if it was an accident... It happens Bob. I've seen it. What I saw was live ammo with a blank adaptor. Big explosion and lots of hurt people. I've also seen blanks and live ammo mixed together. It's amazing the stupidity of people sometimes.
Yes - i could see that (i.e. - an explosion) happening, but the story that i heard (on radio) was that the guy SHOT SEVERAL PEOPLE... of course, the story could be wrong (i.e. - maybe the gun blew up and injured several people)... my question: how could you shoot more than one person with a blank adapter on?
That won't happen. The barrel usually explodes with the first shot. There is no second shot. He didn't have a blank adapter on.
