I had a tanker ignite in open ocean, far from any Japanese base and without any report of float plane or torpedoes from a sub. Blame it on the guy who couldn't wait to get astern before he lit up his cigarette.

• Today bought out the last unit for the summer invasions requiring changed HQ. These last two regiments cost fewer PP than I had thought because their assigned HQ was subordinate to Pacific Ocean Areas HQ to which I transferred them. This is good news because it means I got the second (last) one done much earlier than I expected. I might be able to get the summer invasions underway up to two weeks earlier than I had thought I could manage.

Wasp should make Pearl Harbor in about two weeks. The large troop convoy with the last load of troops from the West Coast (plus non-invasion troops) will start loading day after tomorrow at San Francisco. The convoy will also add a number of AP's and AK's which have arrived in the meantime. Those AK's will not get their June '42 upgrades (AA and radar) before operations commence. 8x BB will be available, plus two more from San Francisco which will not quite make the accelerated schedule but will follow. A number of AKE's and AE's will follow the convoy to Pearl but I will have to discover how far forward I will be able to rearm battleship guns. The oilers which prepositioned to the South Pacific (Pago Pago) will begin heading to Pearl Harbor tonight.

Not all combat units will be 100% prepared in two weeks so I will take inventory to determine which targets will be first and which later.

OK, here is the status of preparation for the summer targets (as of now + 2 weeks).

Kwajalein - Ready.

Roi-Namur - Ready.

Maloelap - Ready.

Wotje - Close to ready.

Mili - About half the forces close to ready, about half will require a few more weeks. Mili is renown for having a tough fortress but 4x infantry regiments might be more than is needed. We could make a primary invasion with 2x regiments, then, if needed, let them hold while the other 2 finish preparing.

Tarawa - Will need a few more weeks.

That's my plan, uh, hope. [:D]

I want a firm Allied presence in the Marshalls to reduce pressure elsewhere, primarily China as that is the only place he is pressing right now. I don't consider the invasion of NW Australia as the Empire pressing because so far it is limited to areas the Allies have very little ability to resist anyway.

The amphibious bonus is gone so he will have to prepare units to invade. I want to get all the developed bases before he can start that process. I suppose that's why I did not consider Ailinglaplap as a target. Assault shipping is the obvious weakness and of course I don't have enough to conduct all 6 landings at one time. Tarawa can wait until last due to its position and lack of airfield. Mili should be able to wait until after the other 4 airfields have been invaded as it has no port and only a size 1 airfield.

I still have to closely inventory assault shipping and see how many of those 4 primary targets I can get into one sailing.
