Maybe if I "go around" the German defenders....

That worries me........German troops now checking for tunnelling sounds and for fleets of hot air balloons [:D]

We've all heard how computers can beat humans at anything computational but I've yet to meet a computer that can beat me at kick boxing.

I've got my R&D department working on a transporter. It's
like a small building that you enter and then over a period
of about a second and a half everything in the building is
physically transported through a worm hole in the universe
to a specific spot that you can specify. It's really
handy for getting past road blocks and small garrisons.
The engineers tell me they think they will have something
up and working "soon".

20th December 1944

Just in time for Christmas the Allies take the last two towns before the Western fork of the first defence line. After the first line the defence becomes concentrated on a single pass for the second and third lines but the first is split by impassable mountains.

Reinforcements have just about stopped now as Berlin is more worried about hordes of Russians sweeping across East Prussia....what I have is what I have to cope with....

I don't think you need Brenner to have some type of a victory. Grab Trieste ASAP.....which is easier said than done. It's all about the objectives. If the 101st wasn't sunning itself in Bastogne right now, you'd be in high cotton.

If you aren't part of the solution, there is good money to be made prolonging the problem.

I think Larry is heading for at least a minor victory and probably more....there are still over 4 months to go and the 65 he can get for Brenner will get him an overwhelming one...

Hey there Mike dude....I've got good news: Ian agreed to do a mirror game with him
as the Allies and me as the Axis so we're going to have a whole new AAR for that
game too. I like the details Ian provides and I can do the pictures and we can show
the highlights of the game, the details and background info and I'll see if I can't
find some WWII pictures to embed. In other words, I want to do a better job on the
AAR than I've been doing. But I'm glad you like it. Thanks for posting by the way.
Your input is valuable. I like the way you think.

24th December 1944

It is shaping up to be less than a happy Christmas in northern Italy....

The Allies are now only 60 Km or so to the South West of the first defence line having taken Bergamo, Brescia and Lecco and is and pushing forward fast from that direction though the more easterly push which had reached Mantua to the due south of the first line didn't move forward last turn so that is either supply issues or more likely its a recon unit waiting for its big brothers...

It is another 12 turns until my last reinforcements of any note arrive...a fairly weak Grenadier Division, so it will be interesting to see how things have developed by then, as that will be around a third of remaining game time...

Thanks for your comments Mike...it is a format I am enjoying and yesterday I re read it from the beginning and it is quite a journey :-)

Here's what it looked like just before I ended my turn. Nobody has enough supply
to attack. But I did get them to move. There's about 38 turns left.

Hi Larry

The two challenges relate to the email I just sent you and are temporary experimental placeholders [:)]

Yourself and Warspite are keeping me fully occupied for now !!

27th December 1944

The Allies air effort is stepped up with numerous direct strikes on my defence lines. Little damage but annoying nonetheless as I have no way to counter them.

Skirmishing with recon pickets has begun North East of Lecco and to the South of my first lines but main forces remain about 35 Km apart .

The eastern advance to the East of Mantua and Bologna which is still held by the Axis appears to have stopped.

No worries [:D]

I had a sudden panic I may have 4 STBP games concurrently going on ! My brain would explode (it has VERY limited capacity !)

I see you have put our reverse fixture up so thanks for the opportunity to play the good guys !

If you don't mind I will pick it up once this one is finishing....I don't want to have to rush it as the scenario is like a fine wine...it needs savouring [:)]

31st December 1944

The last day of 1944 sees German pickets pushed out of Peschiara to the south of my first line and the security battalion holding Verona....the last town before Larry hits my line...sees US armoured and Infantry units at the gates.

There is more bombing by Allied air but little damage. Outgoing artillery fire from the forward line hits an advanced US AT unit sneaking about but causes a few chips on the paintwork of the commander's favourite Jeep and that's about it.[8|]

Roll on 1945 !

I agree. After this one is done is fine. I'll need to start a new AAR for it. What would you like the title to be? I propose: "More Adventures In Italy With Ian". What do you think?
