RE: Kyushu conversion to AV

Post by Jorge_Stanbury »

I don't know if that was a good idea to convert all,

these are very good ships for moving stuff, very fuel efficient; and you might get AK-t attrition once you start counter-invading, xAPs are not good for contested landings after end of amphibious advantage

plus I don't know if I would park these high VP ships on dot bases; LCUs with air support are a lot cheaper

Just fly in some air support from an Air HQ.

I think that there is a smaller and slower xAK that can convert to AV as well as AR. It can operate 4 while moving and support 20 at a base. Just right for a resized Jake squadron. Just be careful not to use those where air strikes can kill them. But they should be good to support air ASW missions in the rear areas.

In the game the Frank B is worthless pretty much. Get the A, and then the R lets you sweep better with the Frank.

You need the capability to sea lift, fast, at least 4 divisions that should form your reserve as you don't get to pick where the Allies go. xAPs don't cut it.

I realize you are suffering from victory disease, not your fault. All too common. Hellcats come in Jan 1943 and the world changes.
Thanks for your thoughts Lowpe,
so Frank more for a sweeper like Tojo only faster and 2 F cannons instead of 2 F MGs. I suppose you need more of them though with service of 3.

That's too bad about the lack of sea lift. Kyushus would still be only xAK-ts right? Maybe i can supplement with Lima xAK-ts. a little slower but still pretty good carry.

I don't know about victory disease? I'm just trying to learn this game and not make big mistakes. I realize that i have been very very lucky and my opponents very unlucky but i've never thought of winning. Just want to keep from embarrising myself. Those AVs are going to be ready soon - meaning i made the bad (irrevocable) decision a long time ago when things looked rather bleak.

Yeah, the Hellcat looks formidable. Better than my A6M5c. Seems to me the Sam is not too bad but i'm not making much progress on that. If i read it right very best possible date is 6/3/43 if all the rolls go your way.

Hi Jorge, very nice way of saying that. I realize now i made a stupid move there. I'll try to protect my AKs best i can.

i'll take your advice and use the JNAFs like i have been for small bases. I can always include the AVs in fast convoys for ASW with Jakes or CAP with Rufes.

Hi Joe, yes you are right there is another xAK that converts to AV (4). It's the Huisimi. I converted all of them to ARs! I'm pretty much an all or nothing type of person. another irrevocable decision. I'll have to reconsider next game.

ARs are great...hard to have too many of them.

You do get a bit of a reprieve, Hellcats don't start arriving until April, 1943

Use Nicks against the 4Es. Use escorted bombers against ground targets.

Oscars are not good confronting heavy bombers, day or night, they are just too lightly constructed.

I'll try but i only have so many Nicks and they are covering the more important bases like Magwe, Mandalay and Rangoon. I don't know why my opponents keep targeting Shwebo and Myitkyana - those are smaller bases.

Maybe i could use my OscarIIas as LRCAP over their bomber base and discourage them that way. I don't think my Nicks or Tojos can reach.

That would be a good use for the Oscars. You could move in some AAA if you have it available as well to increase OPs losses.

They are targeting your bases that have little risk to them. They are also training their air crews.

Some night bombing at their base could help but be careful of AAA.

Are there only 2 bridges across this river or is the graphics just limited?

Use the road hotkey, "r" typically, to view all the road connections. Those hexes with the checkered green and yellow pattern have minor road connections that extend to their hexside. Thus 2 adjacent checkered hexes would be connected by roads even if there is no visible road on the main map. The road hotkey will highlight these connections.

Also keep in mind that movement rate between hexes is determined by the combined value of the terrain of each hex: 1/2 way from the center of one hex to its hexside and 1/2 from the border of the adjacent hex to its center. Your movement rate will be an average of the two. Hence moving from a clear terrain into a developed hex will occur more quickly than moving between two clear terrain hexes.

Regardless of where you cross a river, you will still be subject to some disruption (usually about 25%) and make a forced shock attack if there is an enemy unit or units on the other side.

Thanks again forum

Post by RADM.Yamaguchi »

Thanks Alamander. I forgot about that. i was looking at the manual before i asked so that i wouldn't get chastised by Alfred. I didn't see any hints there. Using "r" I see that there a lot more crossings than evident just looking at the map.

It looks like there is only one railroad bridge there and if the town on the far side is open and you have paratroopers, you can slow down any reinforcements. Then you can capture some Indian oil production and hopefully destroy some Commonwealth units. [:D]
